When cutting turf and stacking for composting purposes ,

How long on average does it take to loose the grass and

become reusable , Or to put it another way  how long before

it rots down

I was given some spare turf rolled up in black bin liners. I left it while I was thinking of where to use it. Anyway, a year or so later (ahem!) I found it had turned into some wonderful soil - really, it was like silk, it was so smooth and fine. I don't want to waste it - there's not exactly tons of it, by the way - so I was wondering what's the best use I could put it to. Any ideas, folks?    ;D

I have a feeling it might be slightly acidic (for no good reason at all, just a hunch). Maybe I should do a PH test on it. D'oh!    ::)

There is another option, you know - if you're feeling particularly energetic.

Double gig, and lay the turf grass side down under the first spit.  It breaks down in exactly the right place for the roots to get in to.
