What a great thread, Debs.   ;D  Mine is 'When' by the Kalin Twins which I've always liked.  I missed 'All I have to do is Dream' and 'Stupid Cupid' by a couple of weeks either side.   ::)

'The Charts' actually started in Nov 1952 with Al Martino but there were 'Popular hits' before then. Wierd to look back at dates and think...'Really, so long ago?'
I have all the hits listed with some detail if anyone's interested that way.
.....Good thread, Debster, this is going to run and run.
Ken.

...Also got ALL the beatles lyrics if anyone's stuck for the odd word or two.

I was born before the chart started, but I remember all the songs from the 50s because my mum & dad played them and listened to them.

That's an interesting site.

Mine was Tommy Edwards - It's All In The Game (November 1958).

Sandie Shaw - Puppet On A String. 1st ever British Eurovision winner!!

I don't think so.  We had won the Eurovision before, but I can't remember who by.  Was it Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson, or some bloke singing 'Looking High High High, Looking Low Low Low?

I was born pre pop charts, but I do remember some dire singers!!

The first record I bought was All Shook Up by Elvis.

Pearl Johnson and Teddy Carr sang 'Sing Little Birdie' in 1959 and scored 16 points, they came second to Teddy Scholten from The Netherlands who sang 'Een beetje ' with 21 points.

And... Bryan Johnson sang 'Looking High High High' and scored 25 points in 1960, he came second to Jacqueline Boyer from France who scored 32 points with 'Tom Pillibi'

Sad aint I? :)
