shop bought beans as green manure?
« on: September 09, 2007, 10:23:43 »
Just harvested my spuds (actually did well despite the blight) and have a bit of space for green manure as I dont need to plant anything just yet. Question is - can I buy supermarket dried broad beans or similar to use as green manure?

well yes you can but why go to that expense, a packet of alfalfa, or mustard or fenugreek or any other green manure would probably be cheaper - cheaper still would be to dig in kitchen and/or garden waste, just did a small trench, fill it and top up, then do the same over the whole area you want to be enriched, the worms and winter will do the rest  :)
