Fork,
Most of us voted for the people we thought would do best for us, but as you say they have only themselves at heart. Sorry but  we opted for the easy way out and b***ered off out of Blighty, and found a decent place in France. Taxes are high and vat (tva) is 19.6%, but the welfare is good and the food is cheaper than in England, also on a restricted income we find we can live a reasonable lifestyle.
Sorry I'm a newbie here and don't wish to offend anybody

does anyone remember the government before labour, we lost our house because of them..17% interest on our mortgage..I think they're all a load of liars

Oh don't I just remember  the previous labour government - 27% inflation rate, the trades unions running the country, the winter of discontent, bodies not being buried, roads not being gritted, bins not being emptied.  High earners paying a rate of 19/6 in the pound, ie for every pound they earned they were left with 2 1/2 pence - no wonder there were so many tax exiles.  The 'British' disease being wildcat strikes.

If you wanted to go abroad for your holidays you were only allowed to take £50.

Maggie Thatcher may have a lot of crimes laid at her door, but in my book she did more good than harm.

Light the blue touchpaper, and retire immediately!

Shouldn't jokes be in the "watershed"???
My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Napoleon had that idea. He wanted to conquer the bloody world. I wanted Liverpool to be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up until eventually everyone would have to submit and give in. Bill Shankly.

Sorry, but we have no real statesmen left.
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.
