Topic: Planting out sweetcorn (quite urgent !!)

Mine went a bit yellow for first few days after planting out, but perked up ok after a water. Hope yours do too xx

Mine have gone yellow before I planted them out.

They are quite big though, in small pots.
I must get round to planting them this weekend.

Debs I am not sure about your question but if you work on about 2 cobs to a plant,about a 1-1/2 cups corn per cob. Does that help


Dawn you can plant direct still, if you have crinkled corn it is a supersweet and it needs a bit more heat to germinate than the others, ground temp should be 24C for direct sowing. For Hybrid sweets and sugar enhanced types 18C will do it. If you have fungicide treated seeds..16C for Supersweets,13C for all others.

I read that watering is the key whilst they get established. I also made a windbreak to give them some protection as the plot is quite exposed. I lost a few of my plants to the wind whilst hardening off and couldn't afford to lose anymore once they were in the ground.

This picture was taken just after they went in. They've really strenghtend up now. It's my first season on the allotment and loving every minute!
