Wood.
« on: February 04, 2007, 22:11:38 »
Hello :)

does anyone know the cheapest place to get wood to make raised beds? No one on my lottie seems to know. I have managed to get quite a few shorter planks from piles of fly tipping on our local common, but would ideally like longer pieces.

Thanks

cj :)

I got most of mine from double glazing companies.
They usually have skips outside their premises full
of old soffits etc from when they've re-furbished properties.
I just went in and asked if I could have them...
They were usually ok about it. Good luck :)

I am having the same problem - i always have my eyes peeled looking for wood. There is anew police station being built and there is loads of wood and piping i would love to have... just need time to wander onsite and see the construction company to beg and flutter LOL

Down here in the south, where ever they can find a spot to build up goes another two dozen houses or flats, here is where you will find skip loads of wood, have a word with the site manager, they are usually very compliant, particularly if you know the health and safety code vocabulary!
