It seems they like to dig every thing up especially onions and eating corn!!!

Are you sure it is sqirrels? sounds more like foxes to me, they love bulbs of any description, have you seen them?.

As I understand it, squirrels only dig where they have cached something, but then again I am not up with the habits of squirrels. ???

It seem that they just dig them up as well as leaving acorns in other parts.  They are every where on the outskirts of the site as there is quite a few trees (next to the grave yard)

I have seen them when I have been on site.

Must admit I think of they as rats with busy tails ! >:(

We have a few squirrels the buggers nicked some of my sweetcorn in the summer, but it's the birds here that dig the onions, press in firmly or cover and shouldn't be a problem.
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
