Must be able to use these for something...
« on: January 21, 2007, 15:05:39 »
I hate throwing stuff away, so can anyone suggest an allotment-related use for the following?

1. Lots of wooden curtain rings
2. Lots of cardboard tubes (the sort posters come in so bigger and stronger than toilet rolls)
3. A cardboard roll from inside a carpet (2m wide)

1. Wood ash
2. Cut up and stick in compost heap to help aerate the heap before they decompose
3. Cut along the tube, then jump up and down on it til it's flat, then use it e.g. to cover uncultivated ground
 :)

The cardboard tubes and carpet tubes could be cut down to 8-10inches, fill with compost for carrots

As for the wooden curtain rings - attach them to sheets of fleece then you have rings to peg it down securely. Either that or use them as fashion icon ear-rings.....

Wooden curtain rings:-  tie some together in a sort of ring then attach dangly strings then tie on lots of shiny/clattery stuff and suspend somewhere as a flashy/noisy bird scarer mobile-type-thingy.  ???

with the curtain rings you could hang up a curtain to spare the embarrassment of the salad dressing :)

Curtain rings may be useful for bean cane holders.

The tubes could be cut down and used to blanch your leeks.
