Can any of you lotti experts tell me if it's ok to put the peelings from citrus fruits in the compost. :-\

Yup - they're fine, as far as I know;  as long as it's not huge quantities, which'll put the worms and beasties off!

I bung my citrus peelings around the garden out of site in an attempt to keep the cats off my beds, dunno if it works, but if you put a grapefruit peel half down on the ground, by the morning it will be full of slugs and snails!  Melon peel has the same affect.

Good idea about the cat deterrent EJ - I have two cats but I still get p'd off with them digging up my new plants >:(  I have tried the grapefruit peelings for catching the slugs.

Hey Patricia - any with organic origins is fine on the compost heap where it will get mixed with other things (no cooked items, of course or droppings from non-vegetarian animals!)

It's Wormeries where too much citrus peel should be avoided as it makes the mix to acidic for the brandlings to cope with.

I love making compost heaps - totally rewarding - enjoy!
