Greenhouse - disassembly / assembly
« on: August 09, 2006, 19:47:57 »
Hiya,

I would really appreciate some advice.

I've just bought a greenhouse off eBay  :). However, my DH has to disassemble it (and then obviously reassemble it) - he's wondering what tools he may need to take with him for the job.

The greenhouse is a 6' x 5' aluminium framed glass greenhouse.

And then of course ... what do I need to do for a base!

All pointers most gratefully received ... I'm very excited at the prospect of this!!

Thanks.

if you look back there's a few threads about this ........

http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,72/topic,20095.0

here's one to start you off with.

i built mine from new (chuffed) and just used a spanner thing and a pair of pliers but i think someone mentioned WD40 somewhere along the line and the other helpful hint i remember for transporting the glass is to have it upright like ///////////////// rather than laying it flat.

before i got mine i was scared of buying second hand (cos i hadn't got a clue what i was doing).  having now built two, one basic Halls aluminium, and a Norfolk polycarb one, i realise how easy it would have been even without instructions.   ::)

for the Halls one, we used their own base on a trench of gravel, with a few bags of readymade concrete (for fence posts) slung all the way around the inside, and for the Norfolk, a 4" x 2" wooden frame sunk the full 4" into our tough old clay soil.

neither one has shifted an inch - yet !  (fingers crossed).

cos it's ridiculous o'clock, i'll see if i can find any more threads for you.

this one's got pictures !

http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/smf/index.php/topic,19603.0.html.

i think you'll be getting the idea by now.

one person commented that when you dismantle, keep the parts for the relevant section together. d**n good idea.  My Hall's one came with all the parts for one section taped together with the relevant number on the instructions.  this was extremely useful cos you know you had all you needed for (say) one of the sides, in that bundle.
 ;D

if you need a photocopy of the instructions, i'll gladly send you one.  they're all much the same i would imagine !

p.s. much as i love watching the sun rise, i wish i didn't do it EVERY d**n morning.

photograph it before you take it apart - this would have saved me a few hours when I rebuilt mine (also from e-bay!) - there are still a couple of pieces in the wrong place.
