I dug a small pond on my allotment in north London in February. There was not much sign of life so I brought back some frog spawn when I went to visit the folks up north.
Today I was delighted to see a tiny frog hopping across the plant life in the pond. Then another and another. The tadpoles seem to have done really well and there are a few still swimming around with their tails and small legs.
There's also now loads of daphnia and some mosquito larvae (can't all be nice I guess, but all part of the food chain) and lots of water boatmen.
So there we go - a bit more natural life in this polluted and overpopulated city.
It's a good feeling.
