Seedling wilt
« on: February 23, 2006, 13:09:38 »
I am pricking out Spring Cabbage seedlings and and being really careful, but they seem to be wilting.  However, they are still growing okay.  Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Brassica seedlings often seem to do this - but they usually perk up after a few days I find.

A bit worrying to see the leaves flop, sometimes for several days, but I don't think it does any harm - in fact, the opposite. It seems to be a moisture conservation measure on the part of the clever cabbage, which flops its leaves to conserve moisture until the roots have 'taken' and it's safe to transpire again, when they perk up and off they go.
