Old subjects remaining 'new'

Why,when I have read a topic, and exit, does it still say there are new posts.  I've looked through internet options and I haven't tweeked anything so what's happening ?

Do you return using the back button, I think other members have noticed that the page is not updated this way, I certainly have ...
