Got One!!!
« on: November 19, 2005, 21:08:36 »
I'm lost for words,  I mentioned on another thread that I'd not got an allotment yet - I hadn't mentioned it before cos I felt a little guilty really posting on allotment website but not having a lottie even though I have a veggie garden at home it didn't quite feel right.  Over the weeks though as I've hanging about on a4a I realised that I'm not the only one without a lottie so I began not to feel so bad and finally admitted to not having an allotment.

Then today in the post came the letter offering me Plot 31 on the site of my choice - only 2 mins from my house.

Talk about excited there was no containing my elation - OH really thought I'd lost it the sprogs were dancing about and jumping up and down in excitement too.

I am still on cloud 9 and don't ever want to come down.

OH reckons if only he had know how happy something which only costs £18 per year could make me we'd have applied for a lottie years ago!!

 :D ;D :) :D ;D :) :D ;D :)

Wardy

So when are YOU going to find time to knit jumpers then?

Contrary to popular belief there are still only twenty-four hours in a day...I think  ;)

It is the two things together - having a lottie (or veggie patch) and all that goes with it and being able to discuss it with likeminded people on here that make the whole experience so special.

Good luck with the new lottie, Delilah.  They call me Lottie at work, just because I have an allotment.

Regardless of whether people have an allotment or not, this site is great for all those that grow there own, or just chat about lottie/veggie related things.  But I have to admit, that having your very own, plot/piece of land to grow your own, is a wonderfull thing.  I'm very excited for you.

Redclanger - was having that very conversation with Mr Delilah last night our friends do not understand our way of life atall - "why spend the time growing or making something which you can buy from the supermarket" is their response when I ve been making chutney or sowing seeds.

It has been so refreshing to talk openly without fear of repression to like minded people on a4a :)

To which the only answer is "Why buy something from the supermarket that's covered in chemical residues and God knows what else, and has been flown halfway around the world, when you can grow it yourself!"

Cheers,
Rob ;)

I bought John Seymour's Book on Self Sufficiency for my nephew.  He's into that sort of thing, I wish someone would by it for me.  I do believe John Seymour lived to be in his 90's he died last year - I think.

So there's something to be said for growing your own and being self sufficient, it helps you to live longer if John Seymour is anything to go buy.  ;D  ;D

Got the gate key today and went to view my little piece of heaven, was expecting it to look more like an overgrown wilderness but got the shock of my life.  My plot has been completely cleared, a blank canvas so to speak, it does need digging over but the ground is so soft I was sinking into it.

Also met the site representative who told me about one or two of the characters especially one who doesn't like women allotmenteers and now I'm there it makes the grand total of 4 women out of 101 plots!

The first job has to be a shed cos I've got onions, garlic and broad beans in at home

Oh forgot to say YES I have the self sufficiency book by John Seymour which my old man kindly bought me for my birthday last week (ssshh) - sure he meant well  ;D

So I can drip feed (with monotonous regularity) all his pearls of wisdom onto A4A.  I'm sure you'll all be pleased about that  ;D

Hope you enjoy it - I did! (the new one and the old one)
