Hi

If you have a look in the above link there is a thread on sweetcorn.  Somewhere in the middle is a description about plastic bottles by Davy1 which he suts up and ties over the cob to protect it.  Hope this is a help, I know it was a topic a couple of years ago but this is the only one I could find.

Good luck.

I always save my mixer bottles. The plastic ones. I just cut the bottom off and put them over the cobs. Works a treat. Its a bit of a bugga having to drink all the gin mind you.lol
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

If you've got enough rats to be a threat, then either rat poison or fen traps seem to be called for! There was one year when I went several months without putting anything down. My pumkins were eaten hollow, and they chewed their way into an empty beehive and destroyed the contents. I won't be doing that again.

We are lucky as despite being next to the Mersey, we have no problem due to a group of feral cats that live under the container that is used as a clubhouse.

Funny, I hate cats in the garden as they disturb the birds, but everything in its place.
