Harcourt Road Site, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. If you go through the gates, we are the third lottie on your left. Known to the family as "Rickett Acres"!
You can tell it is mine, because there is a big old bit of carpet in the middle of it at the moment (to be used to cover the paths eventually!) and there are lots of beds pegged out. But not many dug yet! :(
Vale Road in Claygate (By name and nature), Surrey. A couple of miles from Sandown Park.
Hello my lotties in Norwich Lakenham Baths .Its a lovely site with 65 plots and a stable next door. Angie

Used to be in an open prison called Stanley, 8 miles from Durham. The plots i'm looking at now are at East Stanley and Shield Row both open prisons, East Stanley is run by the Gestapo, but checking out the Shield Row site this weekend ;D .
Hi Miss Baritone, I used to work in Hartlepool and visited a few sites down there, bought a few hens and ducks ;D where exactly is your plot?
Hi Legless, where about's is your plot in 'the bay' I know that area well too (got about a bit when i was a lad ;D).
Hi Jethro, Its In Chester Road. Just behind the grayfields playing grounds
:-* my plot is in Bath just by the royal crescent, anyone who has taken a Bath bus tour would have gone by my plot, lovely spot.

Hi MissBaritone, know it well just by Low Throston ;D
Campanula - where in Cambridge? Father in law had one there.
Mine is on one of two sites on the Delves green road,Walsall, west midlands.
;D open prison called stanley!
my plot is at hillheads, behind the ice rink.
Hi legless, is that next to Percy Gardens? i used to visit a lady down there many, many moons ago before i was married ;D .
I might scare you and MissBaritone and visit the sites, so if you see an old man wandering around the site totally lost, that'll be me ;D ;) ;D .
old man wandering around lost - that narrows it down on our plot - not!
i don't know where percy gardens is i'm afraid, could be near there - its quite near marden quarry and next to the football ground.
you're more than welcome to visit, i always forget the milk though so its black tea i'm afraid!
Cheers legless, as long as it's wet and warm ;D
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Hi MissBaritone, know it well just by Low Throston ;D
Thats right. Anyone is quite welcome to visit anytime they want. Just let me know when you're coming so I can make sure I'm there and so I can make sure I have a spare spade there so I can put you to work
Me and my wife Doreen put my new shed up on Wednesday. Took us 4hr from start to finish, My lotti is looking good, as I have only had it since Oct last year, Thanks to the help you all gave me. Will put Photos of before and now, when I work out how to.
Hi Miss Baritone, what with you and Lish I'll not have time for my own lottie, but what the h*ll if you need help just scream I'll be there ;D
My plot is at (translation..) 'Mouse Brook', Antwerp North Port. Alongside two lakes. It's at sea level and my water comes up an old fashioned hand pump...24 pumps per bucket. (Working on a better method.)
I have 3 full size allotments in Bolton, Lancashire. It is south facing and next to a very old oak wood. Fab!!
Ross, never did find out where your allotment was in Reading? As I said ours was in Earley beside the woods and lake and the Thatchers Pub and Woodley. Had really happy memories of living in Reading, when the children were little. Now of course in Whitley Bay, behind Whitley Bay High School. Love it there, as once on our plot we could be right in the middle of the countryside, has its own very special atmosphere. :D busy_lizzie
I just got one in Alvaston Derby
Ours is in Sneinton Nottingham, Near Greens Windmill.
Which works as well which is quite theraputic when avin a cuppa on a windy morn in the lottie.
Les
Near Leigh, anyone else from the north west??
Sparky
Eh! Sparky. A mate of mine does the clubs part-time in Leigh. Sings all the old stuff and jokes around a bit on stage. Frank Brian. You heard of him?
Not heard of him but will keep an eye out for him now! ;)
Sparky
My plot should be where my pin is. Would someone click on the 'member map' and see if my pin is in Belgium and if Belgium is listed in the 'area' bit below? Ta! (according to me I don't exist!)
Kenkew,
you're not there on the member map...but your pin is there on your profile.
They seek him here, they seek hime there.......that damned elusive kenkew :D
Kenkew
if you look at the members map but change the view to Europe instead of Northern Europe low and behold you are there....
Les
Ecky thump, Les, I moved house!
Don't have a lottie.
Just a large garden area in Sunnyhill, Derby.
like a burger, between the big M and a football ground :o not exactly scenic, unlike Mimi's.
Yes, but I bet your soil is a lot better than mine ;)
Derek the fox I'm near you - I'm in Sherbourne Allotments in Cov, near Safeways - we might be neighbours :)
I'm in the Kingdom of Mercia, too. I look after part of my mother-in-law's garden, just inside Wolverhampton, and I've got the use of part of a large garden behind the local shops, which will be built on eventually, and the owner just wants it keeping in some sort of order up till then. Our own garden (which is the Gaffer's territory) is half full of sheds, rabbits, sheds, chickens, sheds and a playhouse that the lads no longer use (evil schemes being hatched as I write....) ;D
Like a couple of others darkest Essex, Ingatestone to be precise.
In fact I think I'm a serf, as I am under the impression the the allotments are owned by the local lord of the manor, rather than t'council.
Jeremy
Be careful or you could find yourself condemned to the Tracle Mines at Pleshey.
I'm getting worried -as the hairline recedes I'm running out of forelock to tug!
J
Get Margaret Roding to lend you some of hers - now she's Abbess Roding she doesn't need it. Did you have a Good Easter, by the way?
I think the memory is going with the hair :( As far as I can remember we went to mum-in-laws for a couple of days. I did do things on the allotment -but I'm not sure what, probably building up the muck heap -someone kindly delivers us fresh horse manure but I'm told it needs stacking for a year before using due to all the shavings. Probably topped up the no-dig beds too and planted out some beetroot.
J
I have a similar problem - we have 27 .. 33 .. 41 ... 49... LOTS of rabbits, 12 hens and a cookerel (actually the 2nd o in that should be a c, but if I do that it will appear as a thingyerel), and they produce a lot of "recyclables", but since they are largely bedded on shavings, it's normally more like 2 years than 1 before they are sufficiently composted to be used.
I was hoping that with a lot of grass clippings & other green stuff it could be accelerated a bit to next year. That said the clay soil we're on is supposed to be chock-full of nitrogen -according to the chap on the next plot who wasn't too tight to get his soil tested, and wants breaking up more than it wants feeding -it's more nasties in the mix that I'm worried about.
Lastly, I'm planning to put it on rather than in, digging four small beds initially half killed me (bad back) so I don't think it's reasonable to do the rest and re-dig the 1st lot each year -anyway that's why god made worms & root veg :)
Jeremy
If you are on clay you could lime this year while you wait for the compostto break down - muck & lime are best applied in seperate years (lime goes best with the pulses, so it's just as well they don't need nitro to turbocharge them).
Northampton anyone?
I've just taken on a plot on a big site (300 plots) between Abington Vale and Weston Favell. It's on the crest of a hill looking across the nene valley - very exposed - I've been told that sheds go over in the wind if not weighed down.
Couch grass!? Don't talk to me about b*****y couch grass - it's everywhere! Although I have started with the best of intentions, I am now seriously considering giving some money to Monsanto :-\ for some R****u*.
Meanwhile, me and the boy, Paddy, managed to get a row of main crop spuds in at the weekend.
Why oh why do lottie associations rotovate perennial weeds back into vacant plots?
Peas and love all

very new to this, three weeks, all of rain , sorry to every one about that all my fault. Really can't wait to start but have mislaid my flippers and snorkel. :(
Hi Guys :)
Newbie to the board.
I am located in Cornwall and after quite some time trying to get a lottie have given up :'( as most of the area is rural farm land and people tend to have gardens they are very hard to come by.
But a neighbour and I approached our landlord and local land owner and we were told that some one that had moved out a few months before did have a bit of land but never did much to it. He only cleared a couple of metres square and stuck spuds and stuff in there. Idea as we live about 30 seconds walk to it and I can see it from my front door!
So we now have a large shared garden we are reclaiming from the bracken and brambles which will take soom time but should be worth it.
I think I have had chats with some of you before I know I have with Gavin.
Just wanted to say Hi and see if anyone else is in my area.
Sam
Ours (of 3 days!) is in Alvaston, Derby... wonder if it in the same place as Len's??
Sounds great Pixie. Where abouts in Cornwall are you?
My humble slice of this green and pleasant land resides in North London, Enfield. Carterhatch Playing Fields. A 5 minute walk away from my front door.

Hi Emma Jane
I live near Launceston but work in Bude.
At home the beach (and work) is about 25 mins away depending on traffic and at work it is about 2.5 mins away at the bottom of the hill. :)
I am really very lucky!
Sam
Ooo Sam, been to Bude more times than I care to remember. Old school chums folks had a bungalow there plus my family are from Bideford and Barnstaple, so only a short drive away. Okay, pining for a holiday home now,
Emma Jane - I know them both well :) my mum and dad used to live near Instow!
Believe me Bude is really busy at the moment and not much fun because it is raining :(
I feel very sorry for the families on their Hols when it is like this but I tell them to go to the Eden Project which is fab but can become v v stuffy when it is hot outside.
Well worth a day out if you are in the area.
Sam
Done the Eden thing tooo many times now. The kids love it but we prefer to go out of season. Instow is our fave sitting on the front scoffing a Hockings ice cream, well there or Bideford quay. Rights, that's it, haven't been down to see the folks for 3 months so I can feel a trip coming on!
There is nothing like a hockings ice cream with clotted cream and a flake ;D But they dont do them in Bude :(
Another Hockings lover huh! Do you know, I don't bother to eat ice cream because there is nothing in this world, in my opinion, as a Hockings! ;D
They do the big tubs for sale now so get the freezer bag out!! ;D
Sale/Altrincham boarder - postal address Cheshire (but part of Greater Manchester) Only 8 plots on mine but lots of allots near here but noone else admitting it?
Hi there - another newbie - just got our lottie in Duxford (Cambridgeshire), and am looking forward to weekends involving digging...digging...and more digging! ;D
Hi DocAlgae
I know where you are :) I was looking at lottie sites on the internet at the weekend and found a cambridge allotments site. I used to live in Newmarket road when I was younger for a time before I moved to Soham and remembered the lotties there but I see that they are now ear marked for housing :(
Sam
Hiya Pixie - well, the lottie is a fifteen or so minute drive from where I actually live, as my home town has a 112 year waiting list ::), and I figured in 112 years I won't be up to much! I found the Duxford one through the Cambridge allotments site! ;D
Quite a good site I thought and very informative. Hope to see your photo on there soon!!

Not too far away, In Haywards Heath. I am on a council owned allotment that is run/managed by our own society. About the same size at 60 or so plots.

I've got 3 plots at Whitemoor in Nottingham. two are established and I've just taken on a clearance one with a great pear tree.
my in is in bath like Minerva, it would have been closer to my flat if I had got one near the cresent like her but alas there was a waiting list.
Not to say that I don't like my new one at monksdale road, excellent view over the whole of Bath.
Cowes on the Garden Isle. lovely sea views and I can look across the solent and watch the rat race on the north island.
I'm at Whitemoor in Nottingham. It's an Association run Council owned site with 135 plots approx 600 sq yds each. We've got water and pretty good soil ( albeit a bit sandy). Mare's Tail is a problem at one end of the site and club root is at the same end. We also have a pretty good shop ( I would say that- I run it lol )
Mine's here: http://www.paddocks-allotments.org.uk/ (http://www.paddocks-allotments.org.uk/)
Speedy, what a great Lottie you have there and a cracking website too, it appears to be quite well secured (big gates high walls), with loads of facilitys. I have copied your web addy for future refence, thanks. Roy ;)
P.S. My spell checkers broke ;D
Thanks Roy (note for others - it's not my website - belongs to the allotment association!).
We do indeed have nice high walls on 3 sides of the site - it's on Royal Parks Land, used to be part of a paddock for the Royal gee-gees (hence the name) but was bequeathed to 'the labouring classes of Hampton Wick' (!) by King George V in 1921.
The walls and the gates keep out the vandals (but not the foxes - they're resident I think) - as long as people remember to close the gates - and the fence on the fourth side of the site is being replaced with high pointy railings. We've no mains water but lots of boreholes with Victorian-style hand-pumps around the site. It's like stepping back in time when you go through those gates.
It's very handy for me as the entrance to our flats is directly opposite the gates! Couldn't get much closer!
My allotments are in Tamworth, run by the tamworth allotment association, have to pay about £3.00 per year for water, The soil where l am is very good now that all the cooch grass as been removed. I am up there as soon as it is light in the mornings, when l am not at work, Someone walked by the other day and asked if l had my bed in the shed as l always seem to be their. But at the end of the day l think that you only get out what you put in, and if God forbid l was to die on my allotment l think that l would die a happy man.
My plot is owned by my Father-in-law (been in the family for years apparently) and is in Stoney Stanton in Leicestershire. About 4 miles from Hinckley if anyone knows it! :)
Is that near Sapcote Tim?? Not far from a quarry. Think I visited there many many moons ago.. Inlaws hailed from that area at the time.
Small world Mimi, it's about a mile from Sapcote and there are several quarries, hence the name Stoney Stanton I guess. The largest is called Stoney Cove and is now a National Dive Centre.
Tim
My plot's at Harlow Hill, Harrogate - not far from Harlow Carr Gardens. Unfortunately, it's on heavy clay and is prone to flooding.
EJ - my grandparents lived in Danbury. Gramps was a superb gardener - self sufficient except for bananas and other 'tropical' fruit. Sadly, he died long before I became interested in gardening.

No one near me :(
Our plot is at Christchurch in Dorset, very sandy soil and workable all year, we have a 15 x 10 polytunnel and a greenhouse, shed and tea room on our plot which ia 10 rods, we used to have 20 rods but found we didnt need it all and there was a waiting list for plots so we gave one up.
ben lottie keepers for 6 years now and had had one before in Poole, Dorset.
I love it up there i relax away from phones and have some lovely wild life up there and bacon butties taste good in the fresh air :)
We're quite near flowerofshona, we (myself and fosteri) just got our plot in Weymouth. Dunno exctally how big it is yet, not very! We're hoping to make a start Saturday morning, very exciting. I have the radox on standby - its fairly overgrown, all grass, haven't seen of which variety yet.
We're hoing its going to serve three purposes:
1) Enable us to cancel our fortnightly organic veg boxes
2) Provide entertainment and an intrest in where our food comes from for our 4 children (2 each)
3) Provide refuge from our 4 children (6 if you include husbands!)
Hi Guys
My lottie is on maidenhead road opposite windsor racecourse in ...windsor!
we have a fab association and i am now a full committee member! we have a hall that holds dances and we have a fab cheap bar! ::)

Hi there,
I am AL. A brand new allotmenteer.
My plot is in Hastings, East Sussex.
It has not been cultivated for several years and has grassed over. I am going to tarp off an area tomorrow and work out where I want the first set of beds to go.
Future ideas - apart from loads of yummy veg - include a kids den are maybe in willow.
Alison
Hi there Flowerofshona,
I grew up near Christchurch, went to secondary school in Somerford actually. We also lived in Highcliffe and Bournemouth so I know that area quite well.

My new lottie is in Harlow, Essex. ;D
Hi Bun,
We live just down the road, near Ware and am still waiting for news from the council for an allotment.
I have a tiny garden but would love to grow veggies this year, hence the need for a lotty ! I did not think there were any lotties near Harlow !?
hi, another newbie here! We have just got our first lottie. We are in Ilminster, in Somerset. There are 50 allotments in various conditions. No water on sight, and a long walkuphill to carry anything as we don,t have a shed. Lovely sight, south facing, just right for long summer evenings with the odd bottle! At the moment the plot is covered with an old silage sheet and we are digging it over bit by bit!
Welcome Cookie, sad about the water and the walk up hill but the view sounds great! :D
At least when you have had enough it is downhill home ;)
My allotment is in Stanton Under Bardon, Leicestershire.
Janet
hi bun - we used to live in harlow until we moved to weymouth 7 years ago, and yes marianne there are allotments. hard to get though, if i remember! you anywhere near staple tye - i used to live in woodcrof. and hi nattyem and fosteri - hope you're enjoying good weather. my lottie is at the barclay road site council run and very not looked after at all - do you know if there are any kind of allotment associations or anything in weymouth - tried the council and the library, but no luck! nattyem - did you play recorder at brewers quay christmas time - i think i had an e-mail from a nattyem???
Frannie how spooky is that!!!! Yes, I run a recorder group and we did play at Brewers Quay at christmas! That is soooo scary, you work there then?
As for lotties, been there friday, today going again tomorrow - it was like spring there on friday. You can get free compost at the tip I think, haven't been to check it out yet. No associations as far as I know, but I'm so new to it all. Louisa asked the council man about it and he said there wasn't one.
Hi Marianne. There are loads of lotties in Harlow. Ours was really easy to get, probably 'cos the whole site is so run down. Ours is in Long Ley. Have you thought about traveling to Harlow to get one? If you fancy it here's the number.
Harlow Council’s Allotments Officer
(01279) 446997 â€" ask for Darren Fazackerley.
Hi Frannie, we're about 2 miles from Staple Tye. Small world, eh.
lol, Wardy ;D Keep on dreaming - but with your eyes wide open!!
I'm in Preston Lancashire where there a a number of sites and plots on most of them are usually available.
Anyone else near by????
Plottie :)
nattyem eh? i started at BQ in september and there was an e-mail from nattyem on my computer, which i took over from someone called emma! i was on the "ice rink" when the recorder group turned up!
bun - harlow seems so green now i only drive through it. funny enough, more green than the part of dorset i moved to! dont know what you got till its gone, do you?
well I probably spoke to you then! Such a small world!! Yup the email was from me, I'm Emma :)
My allotment is in Nunhead S.E.London on a site owned by Thames Water. It is on a south facing slope - so I might be able to get my tomatoes ripe in the summer - no shade at all - and luckily for us a water tank right next door to our plot! Horrible thick claggy clay soil though.
Mine is in Ipswich in Suffolk, on a small site with 60ish plots. We have a shed selling the essentials on site, and water tanks dotted around.
I have 2 allotments next to each other on a steep, but sunny slope. For this reason, they are terraced into 5 levels going up the hill. This makes it easier for rotation, but difficult to manoeuvre manure up the hill! When I stand on the top level, I can see all around the town below me, bliss!
Which site are you on nikk? I used to live in Ipswich (I grew up there) and my friend has an allotment on the Spring Wood site which is huge and flat! (sorry!) I also have another friend with one but I forget which site she is on.
I have to say that I wouldnt change my hill plot for the world, even though it is really hard work!
Im on Spring Road next to the railway viaduct quite close to the town centre.
Talk about small world!
Nikk
eek looks like I know everyone...I'm not a stalker I promise. You probably know of my friend then as now you've said it I'm pretty sure she's on Spring Road I'll PM you her name (incase she is internet shy and would prefer I didn't broadcast her!!) she does a lot of organic gardening stuff in Suffolk.
Yes, like you say, she does a lot of work to promote organics in Suffolk. A very nice lady.
;D Hi, new member here from Widnes Cheshire. Got a 90x30 foot plot in Sunny Widnes. 1st year grower, had plot since September and just about ready to start growing.
;D
Another new member with a plot in Stoke Poges, which is just north of Slough (or south of Gerrard's Cross if you're posh ;)) It's a small site with about 50 plots in a field. No sheds, no hard-standing, no shop. But we do have water, a gorgeous setting, the occasional delivery of fresh horse manure from local stables, and it costs £10.50 a year. :)
Hi thistle. I used to live near Stoke Poges. My sister kept her horses there & we used to go to the pub there, but I can't remember it's name. It was a big white one standing on the corner.
We lived in Iver Heath, just opposite Pinewood Studios. I would walk to the shops in the morning & saw Cubby Brocolli being driven past (sp?) so often we became nodding buddies! ;D
Hi Bun ! You might know my OH who grew up in Pinewood Green and also our friends who owned Pinewood Garage. Send me a private message if you fancy, as this is probably off-topic ! ;D
Hey thistle and bun - I'm up the road in Chesham.
I used to work in Stoke Poges and then between Wexham and Fulmer (office parks).
Used to like a quick coffee and a cake in Jungs!
Can't picture any lotty's there though - whereabouts is it?
Sarah.
ah carrie, just saw you replied here earlier.
nunhead - part of southwark, isn't it?
my new :D allotment (got the keys today - hooray!) is in walworth, just south of the elephant and castle. you would never know it's there - it's kept quiet by the lottie holders. only 15 plots on the site, and luckily for us the waiting list was 2, with 2 plots becoming available :D so good timing (we know about it because it's round the back of our house).
there seems to be a good mix of people on there - mostly older but very helpful types, and a few younger couples and singles. also, some are heavily into 'production' whereas others just bumble along with their stuff. each to their own - this is good as we will fit right in there somewhere on the scale ;)
Wow Wardy you are a devil for punishment arn't you ??? Give yourself a day off and have a good soak in a Radox bath, do a little leave a lot 8)
I have two allotments at garthdee field in aberdeen.

AndyH,
We spent a summer evening a few years back enjoying a few beers at the Cove, watching them sink a boat for the divers to explore. Apparently there are planes and allsorts down there?

Wheatfields one side, Luton airport on the other, very peaceful though maybe it's just that I was in the RAF for 5 years and don't notice the noise
My plot is in Oxford, by the JR hospital :)
where my husband was born ;)
Started on my new allotment last weekend (brrrr... freezing!!) Chuchmanor Way, in Greenwich, SE London.
Large site. Soil good (except for 1 type of weed), lots of free manure, water standpipes etc. My dad currently buying lots of seeds for me (unsolicited) and sowing in his greenhouse in Cambridge - just wish he was as enthusiastic when it comes to visiting me with fork and hoe... ;D
ours (mine & the Misses) is in Canterbury kent
the plot has been worked on for at least 30 years
we got it last Autumm in an excelant condition
soil is very deep
Hi all,
Just joined this group this week, its really great, lots of sound advice and information. I have an allotment in Dundee, which i acquired on Monday, I'm cleaning it out of old produce at the moment and the soil has been well cared for and nurtured. The plot came with a 17ft x 6ft x 7ft (aged) green house with a homemade "conservatory" attached, so I'm well pleased. The Lottie, which covers an area of 174.5 square metres, is just a short distance from my home
Bun & Frannie, I too lived in Harlow for twenty years, but decided it was time to come home to Dundee. I left Harlow in 2002. I feel somewhat liberated here, easy access to countryside and beaches - No M11, M25, traffic jams ;D
Hi Sky Pilot, where abouts did you live??
Hi, everyone, great site! :)
I'm in Suffolk, near the coast (hello to the people in Ipswich!). We're lucky enough to live in a village, with the allotment field literally at the bottom of the garden! We have two, at the moment, though if we ever get round to making our greenhouse/polytunnel (out of old plastic green house frames and some new plastic), we might need more space.
Basically, the allotments have been carved out of a field and there's still some of the field left. As ours are the last ones on one side, we can spread if we want to, though the clearing process is quite hard work. I spent most of last Jan and Feb hacking down brambles to make the second one.

I too have joined within the last week and collected the keys to my allotment last Monday. Its a great site with shed loads of advice, theres so much knowledge between the users and they are not shy about giving advice which is invaluable to a newbie like me. My plot is in Doncaster about 10 mins from my house. Its still in the planning stage at the mo but ive got a good idea about what i want to do with it. The committee have a 2/3rds to growing produce rule so i thought about a 3rd to some raised beds, a 3rd to soft fruit and the other 3rd to some happy chickens.
Great site keep it up. :)
Hi Bun,
I lived initially in Little Cattins until 1984 and then moved to Upper Mealines, how about you ??
Where's mi plot? 7miles out of Antwerp on the road past Churchill docks. Turn right onto the cobble road and do a left before you drop into the lake. Miss all the ducks, swans, coots and water hens and I'm the right at the top. (The one with the Union Flag flying.)

My plot is in Oxford, by the JR hospital :)
Both of my children were born there! (The John Radcliffe, not your allotment...)
My plot is in Wiveliscombe (12 miles or so west of Taunton) next to the Rugby pitch at Plain Pond. I find that the ladies Rugby team use worse language than the men....

Mine is in Bristol some where not sure where yet the council has not given me one YET
I'm off to pick my plot on Sunday (yep; they've got so much space I get to pick one; I can choose overgrown, very overgrown, wild or positively Amazon-stlye!!!!)
It's Glebe Lane on Farleigh Lane, in Barming, Maidstone - I can't wait, I've checked out some aerial pics of the site, and it's a triangular site surrounded on all sides by nice houses, so hopefully it's well protected. Overlooks the Medway valley which is a lovely stretch of coutnryisde so there will be plenty of lovely fresh air.
*so excited*
Anyone else growing in Maidstone or Kent?
I am on a new site now a couple of plots in stanley and really looking forward to getting some chickens and ducks (could not have them on my previous plots as the foxes would have either got or scared the poor things to death :( ) fella has his ideas about what to grow and i have mine ;D but im sure we will compromise ;) anyone nr me?

My allotment is in Elton, Cheshire, unfortunatley I live 3 miles away and as we are not allowed a shed or greenhouse i'ts a bit difficult carting the tools down. Once I'm down there I love it though.

I got my allotment January 15th this year so very new to it. It is in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorks. I have got to know a few people there and every week more seem to be coming out of the woodwork. It's nice to know somebody else is there.
There are about 30 odd plots, full sun, water taps, but no toilet yet.

Hi this is our first post,
had our lottie since sept last year and its still in working progress. Was a huge mess full of brambles but we had some lovely probation boys who have been troopers and cleared a huge amount bless them.

We are trying to make it a kiddy friendly lottie, with raised beds and a lawn eventually but at the mo its a mud slide.
Oh yea we are based in the sherborne valley allotment society in spon end coventry.

Hi, I'm new to this site and its been so useful already.
I'm in Rothley, Leicestershire and have been here for 24 years. There were five plots but the others have moved on so now there are just the two of us with 2 1/2 plots each.
hello in my wellies-..in thinjk i'll just call you wellie-it sounds like i'm shouting down me own wellies ;D

Hi, I have joined this group today.
My two plots, one of which I have had for about 24 years now, are at the Crawley Down site in West Sussex.
There are about 100 plots & the site is situated in the centre of the ‘village’.
Graham
;) Welcome Graham, tis a great site with a wealth of info. and I have a feeling a lot of new members will be after your knowledge of veggy growing, me included, :D have fun. Roy ;D
Welcome Graham, I live in East Sussex and me Nan and Grandad used to live in Crawley Down!
I think I'm coming to the conclusion that we're all scarily related in one way or another and allotmenteering must be in the genes! We all know each other, or lived where someone else lived, or used to work just round the corner!
All of these lottie members, and not one of you is on my site! Somewhere, Ava's cousin now has a lottie and the site addy has been passed on......only thing is, he will probably have some curious nickname and we will never realise it is him!!!
Hi i am sixteen years old ad i would like a allotment am i 2 young to do so i live un hartlepool does eney one know how i can go about this
Hi akitastorm, and welcome, ;)Â I'm not sure, ::)Â your age may be against you, because you will need a key to gain access to your Lottie, someone may be able to sneak you in when no one is looking and pretend you are with them, but that would be quashed when they found out you haven't paid your dues. :o
Don't you have to be 21 to have a key or am I out of date (as usual) ;D
It depnds on the local rules. Your best bet is to get your parents to take the lottie and work it yourself. I doubt we'd object on our site although I'd have to re-read the insurance policy.
Try phoning your local allotments officer on 01429 523415

There's a very young lad who has an allotment near here and he was only about 13 years old. He took it on with support from his parents as he is very overweight (his folks aren't) and he was getting bullied at school so tended to spend time alone. It's been great for him as he has worked so hard and put in so much effort. He really enjoys eating the food he grows too. His parents bought him lots of seeds etc for his allotment for Christmas to help keep his enthusiasm.Â
That is so sad, I really hope he makes a success with his crops on the lottie, it's a great learning curve and possibly a healing convalesce from his bullying, I wish him well and a great harvest.
:) ;D :D ::) :P,Ours is in Chesterfield, next to the gas chambers. Please say hello if you are ever there.

8) Some of these on line and in car maps are wrong ??? Had a delivery driver insistant that my no through road went to Bures t'other day. His map told him so. No amount of my "but it does not go that way you need the next road over, your map is wrong" would put him off course and he proceeded to drive into a farm yard. Came back pretty quick. LOL
Ours is in Petworth, West Sussex.
Anyone else local out there???
my lottie is in south shields tyne and wear
welcome newbie loll!you'll like it heer!
oo-t&w-i used to live in whitley bay-near the lighthouse!lovely area lovely people!

My lottie is in the Capital of Culture 2008......... sunny Liverpool!
I havent had a chance to read where you all are yet ( theres so many and so much here) so is anyone near to me?
This'll be my 3rd summer at my lottie. It's at Low Moor Allotments in York.
Fantastic place, really peaceful and is on my route home from work, so on sunny summer evenings I pop there on way home to clear my head of work thoughts. Popped there yesterday evening to do some digging, with the sun shinning and a robin for company, perfect end to the day :)
The first year I only had one bed of veg, last year I had 2, this year I'm expanding again and hopfully will have 4-5 beds dug and full of lovely veg.
I have so many ideas for my patch, just wish I could spend more time down there, so I could get them all done NOW, but then it's kind of nice having a string of ongoing projects/ideas.
welcome maz and sweat!
maz-i'm in lincolnshire but i was born in wallasey!

Thanks Kitty. :-* Its lovely to be here.
I'm in Worcester - any one else nearby?!
saucy! ;D
i'm sure i heard of someone on here near you...
Ours is in Harley, squeezed between Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley and is part of the Wentworth Estate. South-facing and sheltered from the wind. We've only had it about 8 weeks but we already look like we've got a tan from an erotic location!
No facilities (other than puddles of water) but great, generous, helpful people.
Slip of the typing keys philandjan, or does your plot offer more than most??? :o :o :o :o
i'm puttin me name down! ;) ;D ;D ;D
me too sounds more fun than the usual kind of location ;D ;)
oooo I want one there ;D
Alright, we'll own up - it's only exotic but it seems that there's lots of dirty people around and a high level of satisfaction!!

However, if anybody would like pictures of our erotic allotment............ 8)

Newbie here with a plot on the Isle of Wight. Not the views that Heritage has but we do have a stream running along side it.
It's the largest plot running all the way to the arrow on the right!
crikey hairy-i think your plot IS the isle of wight! ;D
you've got hurdles and everything!
welcome-they're a lubly bunch here... :D
Thank you Kitty. Hopefully it'll be an interesting journey and the folk I've met there seem to make me think it will. In fact it's dangerous cuase I'd just want to sit listening to life stories whilst all's growing around my ears :D
It'll be good for me and my partner for sure. I wanted another greenhouse in the garden and she says the bouncy castle wouldn't fit in. So here we are. To be honest my partners daughter at 11 years old asked for a piece of garden for flowers, so far from ignoring a child she'll have her own area too. Not too big mind, cause when she finds out she can give men the run around, it'll be ours again :(
Thanks Kitty.
Got my lottie Two weeks ago, in Wantage, South Oxfordshire! Only been on the list for 8 months! Shame no-body has worked the plot for at least 4 years! Still the digging keeps you fit!! Got a few Lettuce and Radish in already! Lots of great tips on here, thanks!
welcome matty!you'll lean lots heer!
hope you enjoy it!

Just about to take possession of our lottie/dock farm.
It's in Whitwick (Nr. Coalville) Leicestershire - known as Walkers Flats (no idea why!) just off George Street.
About 30 plots altogether but less than half occupied at the moment, the others freshly rotovated and turned into the worlds largest dock farm by the council.
I'm really looking forward to weeding them out for the next 10 years or so >:(
i'll call your docks and raise you mares tails and thistles! :'(
there there gecko! ;)
if only the dam things were edible!
Hello,
Sheffield here, South Sheffield to be precise S12.
mines a new 'lottment, first year so we've cleared what we can - still about 3/4 to go, the weeds seem to love it though >:( so can't be all bad, mainly docs, nettles and creeping buttercup & hopefully maybe the odd veg?
Wallingford in Oxon calling - I've got Hay on offer, grown this year, made up of different grasses if anyones interested!
Anyone else nearby?

Kitty's shop is just off the right of the picture on this page. ;D
my plot is on witton allotments, blackburn, lancashire
If I haven't said already, and I haven't got time to traul through allthe posts, I have a plot on the Wragby Road allotments in sunny Lincoln. Lovely patch of green with a prison on one side, housing on two others and a small area of scrub that is rapidly turning into a nature reserve between the lotties and Tescos. Great bunch of fellow lottiers and if you crane your neck you can see the cathedral which is close by and whose bells let me know that I have spent too long considering the weeds.
Wow....spread all over the place aren't we? My plot is in Royton, Oldham. Just behind Royton and Crompton school. It's a small site with 20 plots, most people have been there since god was a boy. I had my name on the list for nearly four years and now the pigeon man has been given his marching orders, so I get the plot ;D ;D ;D, didnt realise that birds pass seeds straight thru.......I have loads of corn growing amongst the other horrors!!
Anyone this side of manchester??

hello. new plotter from east end of Glasgow. haven't got a scooby doo what I'm doing half the time, but enjoying turning a jungle into something that resembles a plot! other guys around me have been really good with advice...... especially when they realised I'd been watering my totties and drowned them!!! gave them a gud laf,I'd be glad to hear of anyone else local who knows at least a wee bit more than me.
hi is anyone on the sherborne vally allotments in coventry.
Been there since last september and turned a brambled mud slide into something resembling an allotment now.
We are just going to harvest our first spuds(if wire worm hasnt got there first)
We have a few broad beans( covered in black fly.)
Perpetual spinach which no bugs want.
Welshonions which were donated to us and are now thriving.
leeks are doing ok but very small at the mo.
And we are just about to start on our second adjoining plot and turning it into a fruit orchard.
We are still tackling getting the brambles out either by hand or by glyphosate but to be honest we are trying to be organic but its a struggle to start with isnt it!
We are also trying to make this a kiddy friendly allotment as we have 4 kids ranging from 22 months to 13years.And would like them to be very activly involved but at the mo theres too many stingy nettles there as well but im sure we will get there.
And finally we are trying to go with the no dig method as well.We have an endless supply of pallets and my hubby has been digging merrily since last september on each bed and we now at the moment have 15 beds and still digging.
So its organic, child friendly,no dig for us,
any advice?
Does anyone know about companion planting and have maybe a list of what goes with what as i know a bit like onions and carrots go well together but need and eager to learn more.
The down side so far is we both work, me nights and my hubby full time days and we only get a chance to go up there at the weekend for a few hours. Also we have had a big attack of slugs well i think they are slugs that have ate all my cabbages cauliflours, garlic, my first lot of seedlings of carrots.I dont want to use slug pellets but it look like im going to have to for my own sanity.
It has been hard work as you all well know but it has been so satisisfying watching the mud slide turn into something quite beautiful(well in our eyes it is)
And the satisfaction of growing something ourselves and watching it develop has been brillient and priceless.
Ok we have been there 10 months now and maybe not too much to show this year but i have my dirty mud clogged fingers crossed that next year we will have an endless supply of fruit and veg.
Happy lottying to you all.
love
fairy and the troll.

Redclanger - my niece now lives near Wragby and is a teacher at a nearby school. Lincoln fan. What can I say? Spireite here :)
FBgrifter - Hayfield! Isn't that otherwise known as Royston Vasey or am I barking up the wrong wotsit ;D
F & T - I'm trying to be no dig too as my back is sooo painful. Companion planting is my thing too. Bob Flowerdoo is good at it and you can get his book from the library. I put slug pellets into containers so they are safe from my dog and the kids of course. You need something with a tightfitting lid and then just make a hole in the side. You can put beer in them as well which I think sluggies prefer :) To save digging you can plant in builders rubble sacks and containers too (see piccy)
My school is not far from Wragby (Baumber) - have to drive through every morning. I am sure that we will meet up at some time. :)
Hello fairyandthetroll!
I too am on the sherbourne fields allotments, down at the bottom, backing onto B and Q. This is my fifth season, and just beginning to get some order. Are you adjacent to Four Pounds Avenue, or am I thinking of someone else?
Hope you enjoy this forum, I think it is great, so much valuable advice and friendly folk.
Remember there is also a chatroom, easy to get into and safe! you can see if anyone is in, just by refreshing your main forum page.

But hey not bad for a firsty lottyer eh ;D
you will have to come up and see us as dont know which lotty by b&q your at....they all look so nice and neat and trim up your end across the river. We call it the posh end.
Still tackling the bramble with a strimer at the mo but its hard going and too mant to dig out by hand and they seem to love the glyphosate and are thriving on it.Ahh well. we will keep on diggin keep on diggin what do we do we dig dig.Sorry my son is into finding nemo film watched it too many times.

Hi, I'm a newbie to this site and the whole lottie thing.
Hubby and I took over a Guinea Garden in Edgbaston, Birmingham just a couple of weeks ago. It's absolutely wonderful but boy, have we got our work cut out for us! Goosegrass, ground elder, nettles, brambles, you name the bu**er, we've got it! Have got a fab shed though which is such a bonus.
We plan to grow veg, herbs, some flowers and a bit of fruit but right now, we're just trying to find the ground!
There's an open day this Saturday and the Charirman of the Committee said he wants us to show our garden as an example of work in progress. That's one way of putting it!
Mrs J
Hello all
I really like this forum. My allotment is in Alsager, Cheshire, just behind my house. (Gate in hedge) Sounds like good luck but really it was the main reason we bought the house. So I can pop out at night to pee on the compost.
My plot is in Hawkenbury, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Our site is the last field in Kent (indeed it used to be Sussex), on a gentle south facing slope, nice slightly clayey loam soil, beautiful views out across the High Wield's rolling downs, wooded slopes and oast houses. The place would be Eden, if it weren't for the bloody couch grass.
Amphibian I am about 8 miles away from you in East Sussex! DP
DP PLEASE tell them how I love East Sussex. I am too busy crying in my tea!!! :'( You just wait until I win the lottery. Lorna.
I have had a lottie for six months now, and enjoying it every Minuit i get.
I am in Ripon N,Yorkshire (sometimes not mentioned on maps). I am a newby and like this site very much, you can pick up some useful tips.
Anyone near me ?? :) :)
no but i have a friend (from another hobby) in ripon and know all about your fire service ;D
Tell me more, I have only lived here a few years.
My daughter phoned them when she was one year old (accidentally) at eight in the morning, they duly phoned back asking me if everything was alright at which point i realised she had the phone in her hand.
Now i keep it out of sight, kids eh :) ;D
Lorna, you wouldn't like it too much at the mo, has been chilly n rainy!!!
(you could always come and live in my shed! ;D )
DP Thank you so much for your kind offer :) Is it a BIG shed? Couldn't live without my 4 kids and 8 grandchildren thats why I need to win the lottery so that I can buy a FEW properties ;D
It seems perhaps E. Sussex is having more rain than the Fens.,
Cheers Lorna.
Unfortunately not large enough to hold all your rellies! ;D Though it does house a family of mice comfortably! ;D
Hey all!
Anyone got a lottie in huddersfield? I posted a message on swapshop yesterday ... Any takers?
:D
DP Oh good grief, mice? You have just had a cancellation to me taking up living quarters in you shed ;DI am not frightened of them but wouldn't like to share my bed with them :o However it was a kind offer. Lorna.
hi all my lottie is on the writson allotments at sunderland needs allot of work done but i will get there in the end
Quotemy totties
must be a glesga thing weedbusta ;D ;D
where in the eastend is your lottie?
Helen here
Iam on the Aldershot road sit in Guildford, Surrey and our house is literally around the corner the convenience of which is counteracted by the bloody great hill we have to climb to get to it.
We have had the plot for nearly 2 years and have just about broken it. It was neglected for 5 weeks this summer as we took in students and had a 2 week holiday, We won't bother with the students again as I missed the plot too much, (I would rather be producing something edible instead of being a glorified babysitter!) Mind you; it still produced more veg that I hope for.
I originally rented the plot as we previously lived in a flat above the neighbour from hell. Not only did it provide free entertainment and an interest for our son but it got him away fom the situation.
He is now 11, nearly 12 and loves it up there provided the weather isn't too hot. If the other half is on days we can spend 7 hours up there.
Him indoors is an Irishman but doesn't "do digging".
Previously he would only eat cabbage and swede (a paddy for you!) and hated cougettes an leeks. He will now eat both.
I suppose when Michael (son) reaches teenage years he will lose interest. Its a shame that he cannot go on to the site on his own until he is 15 as it would be a great way to occupy the shool hols!!
Happy gardening
Helen
gartocher rd. springboig/budhill area. worked by a load of really nice people. where r u ?
I've not found anyone near me in Elton (of Louise Woodward fame). I don't live there just that it's the closest lottie.
Though I think there is someone in Halton, about 25 mins. away.
Hi :)
Mine's in Market Harborough, south Leicestershire and is run by a local charity, not the council (very badly too!! :()
Well my first post to say Hi to everyone
My plot, well not mine as its my grandparent's but it has now been passed onto me from my dad. It is located in Greatham, Hartlepool, were there are about 12 plots and the weeds are nearly higher than me :o
I have been reading other posts and they have been a huge help especially in enlightening me about green manures as I think these will make the allotment managable and the seeds have already been ordered :)
Chris
Hi Chrish Welcome to this site, I haven't got an allotment but love my garden. A real friendly site to belong to. Enjoy!! Lorna.
we .re in Abbey Wood in Sarf london Greenwich borough, tho Abbey Wood is not he posh end . We had a share of a plot in another place in the borough and it was pretty snotty full of peeps who didnt talk to anyone and had manicured plots made me feel a bit useless. This place is full of real people and is really fine lost of laffs and chat really friendly loadsa advice and you can have a hosepipe on or do a barby whenever you feel like it in fact most weekends in the summer we did more barbyin than diggin. The old fellas spend a lot of time laughin in their plots as the day draws on, mind you the blue bags of beer are a big giveaway. And they are dead good farmers too , they really know their honions!
Just to let you know and invite you all to help with the digging over, I'm in Spring road Ipswich. Only 2 mins walk from my house.
Mine's on the Team Valley in Gateshead just behind Joseph Swan School - all welcome as long as they bring a spade ;D
I have 2 plots on a south facing side of valley on the Fothergills Road site in New Tredegar (Rhymney Valley-South Wales)
Saltburn-By-The-Sea, TS12Â :)
Crash, I'm only a few miles away from you, near Woodbridge!! Thought I was the only Suffolk person on here!! It's nice to recognise an area you're talking about..... ;D What is the name of the Pub in your road...driving me barmy (well, barmier...) tryng to remember! ::) Lottie
Ours is at the back of our house in the Rhondda Valleys South Wales. :)
Mine's in Willesborough, Ashford - nice small site, lovely secure perimeter, playground nearby if boy gets tired watching me dig. There's a pretty decent fish & chip shop round the corner (i'm hoping they will be the source for my tatty-sacks) so do pop round for a fish supper - large cod & chips for the lady, please ;)
and don't forget the beer...

Please don't say it was the Parkview site in Eltham, that's the one I'm currently trying (and God is it trying) to get sorted.
Cheers,
Rob. ;)
Have a plot in BURY (Lancs) it's on the Diggle Lane site in Elton (if that means anything) Have had it a couple of years now but only recently come across this (Web) site. It's still a struggle with weeds etc but the main trouble is down to me and lack of time to beat it into submission - but I'm still there (now and again) trying not to get too depressed! Any one else in my neck of the woods???
Hello Everyone,
I am new to allotments and have just taken one in Handsworth, Sheffield.
I have just discovered this site too! Lots of friendly people here.
Paul :)
I thought I'd put up some before and after shots of my lottie!

Hiya wardy - I know what you mean. We're going to replace the grass paths entirely this winter cos the ruddy nettles keep fighting back! Plan is to put boards round all the beds, black membrane on all the paths, and wood chips on top of that. Should kill the buggers off hopefully ;)
This thread has been inactive for a while so I think I shall wake it up.
Still in Lincoln by the way ;D
My lottie is in Ipswich....anyone nearby??
My second team is the mighty blues - held them in much higher regard before they sacked George - disgraceful treatment he recevied in Edinburgh don't you agree?
hello all

I shall be spending more time in Lincs Clang as my niece has just bought her very first house there - in Louth. It's got a long back garden where she wants to make room for some veggies :)
Louth is a great place - one of the places in Lincs that I would really like to live in. Hope she settles in well - must meet up sometime.
North Lincolnshire in Sunny Scunny ;D ;D ;D
Glorious sunny days never a dull day in sight ;) just the occasional smoke and dust from our wonderful steelworks :(
Whereabouts in Derbyshire Wardy, we do alot of walking thereabouts
I am still in the Garden of Eden, found close to Chelmsford in the rather wondreful county of Essex. Love living in Essex!!

DaveM Welcome to A4A. Gets very addictive. Know your part of the world reasonably well. Have Nephew (who has kennels) in Cliffe Nr Rochester also several relations in Kentish areas. Maidstone etc. I originate from Eltham but have lived in the Fens for 33 years. Still hanker for "Home". Lorna.
Thanks for the welcome
Lorna, I used to live in Cliffe aka cabbage island about 10yrs ago still pop out there for a walk now and again.
Davem Michael and Margaret have boarding kennels in Cooling St I expect you know where that is.
Hi Lottie,
No mine is in Belstead..near the railway line (which my hubby loves:(....he has to look at every bl##dy train that goes by!) it's a lovely site surrounded by the countryside ;D ;D
Lorna,
Cooling st, well known to me i used to play cricket for cooling cc. Many happy memories of the area. :)
As i said like to get out there as often as i can...last time was 3-4 weeks ago, took a walk on the marshes stopped in the horseshoe and castle for a drink and Bill Oddie was in there he'd been out bird watching.
all the best
My first allotment which I have had for 6 months is in Leeds. I'm finding it increasingly addictive as the weeks go by.
Farnborough, Hampshire.
Park Road Lotties.
Right next to tap and car park. Waited 2 years for it and couldn't believe my luck. Also has 2 walls and a roof (shed!)
Loads of rhubarb and raspberries from previous tenants.
Must have made the year's rent (£23) in raspberries alone.
What I couldn't eat I turned into 2 gals of wine. Fantastic stuff.
Another wino, great !!!
Derekthefox :D
It's true I'm afraid, love the stuff.
IMO of all the fruit wines, raspberry is the one which keeps the fruit flavour best. It's like alcoholic raspberry juice (er, cos that's what it is)
Yum Yum.
hee hee!
more like The Weeder's Arms.
Heroic yet futile struggle today aginst the evil
couch grass, bindweed and nettle.
I will win. I will.
Can highly recommend Rhubarb wine......hic....hic
Is rhubarb wine good on couch grass?
it'll make you feel good though ;D - get rid of all those aches and pains after all that hard work, and make you forget that you didn't win the battle against the couch grass....hic....hic..hic ;D
Methinks you need to learn to pace yourself on the rhubarb wine Delilah!
Oh Boris ! To have enough raspberries to be able to make raspberry wine !!!
I have been rather successful with blackberry though ...
Derekthefox :D
it was my treat after a hard day digging: pick one, eat one, pick one, freeze one. After I'd stuffed myself silly with them, I found about 8lbs hiding in the freezer - wot's a bloke supposed to do? Need more space for other stuff, so make wine not war, I say. So I did. Delicious it is too, a bit young yet, just right for Chrimbo.
Am very envious Boris only managed to have enough fruit for 1 gallon of mixed fruit wine, have planted loads of raspberry canes this year so hopefully one day will have enough for raspberry wine
:)

Oh Derek, I didn't even finish the bottle........must try harder next time! :D
Must have a go at this wine making lark. Will be needing recipe some time next year. ;D ;D
Lily
You will find lots of information on the Drinks Board Lily, and just ask ...
Yes, Delilah a whole bottle at one sitting is a bit dangerous, at least until you have got used to it !!! Just keep practicing ;D ;D ;D
Derekthefox :D
Thanks Derek, I'll keep one eye on the drinks board. ;)

Hi im a newbie ......
Great site loads of info.Me and my dad share a Lotty had it since late summer cant wait till spring to get planting.have spent all of the last few months clearing it......but have got onions garlic and rasps in..
our Lotty is in Bromsgrove Worcestershire ;D
Welcome smokeygoose to this great site.
Wow :o :o
It's just taken me nearly an hour and a half to get all the way through this thread - what a friendly bunch you all are.
Some familiar place names here, grew up in the East Midlands, North West Leics to be precise, and went to school in Lougborough which I saw way back in the thread. Though not entirely sure I'd agree with the 'luvvly' bit, well not 20 odd years ago when I was there anyway, maybe it's improved.
Used to live in Sevenoaks which also got a mention, right at the time that it turned into one Oak! Actually, come to think of it, a bl***y big branch fell on my poor Mini and squished it, it was never the same after that.
Now in Redhill, Surrey with a plot on the New Pond Farm site from Reigate and Banstead BC. 2005 has been our second season, we're still fighting the couch grass and bindweed, but definitely making progress and enjoying the produce, fresh air and friendly neighbours.

.......I originate from Eltham but have lived in the Fens for 33 years. Still hanker for "Home". Lorna.
I lived in Blackfen near Eltham from a few weeks old until I was 7, when we moved to West Kingsdown. I left home at 21 and had various lodgings around Avery Hill, Eltham, Mottingham and Woolwich. I met my husband when I was living in Tonbridge. We then moved to Frome in Somerset, Gavavan near Oban in Argyll, Netley Marsh near Southampton and finally here to this lovely village near Salisbury. I wouldn't want to go back there now.
Paulines7 When I said hanker for home I didn't mean Eltham I just meant going back down south. The previous five years to us coming to the fens we lived in Mayfield East Sussex and that was my dream. we had a bungalow with 4/5 acres of land.
However couldn't afford the price of the business we wanted down there so hence the move to Cambridgeshire.
:-[ Sorry Lorna, I misunderstood when you said you hanker for home. East Sussex is very beautiful so I can quite understand why you would like to be back there. Apart from the lovely undulating countryside it must be warmer than where you are! I admire you for gardening in such a cold place as the fens where the wind whips across the flat terrain. I expect you are use to it now though after 33 years.
Pauline when we first came up here we had a garage and filling station. In those days we would serve customers at the pumps. When we were busy and two of us were serving I would always grab the "inside " of the pumps as my garden fence (next door) made a shield from the wind. ;D ;D I hate the wind. Only consolation we don't seem to get much snow up here.
Mine is my garden on a farm near. Wingate .Co. Durham. I have be gardening properly( or as near to properly as I can ) for a year now. I mowed the whole thing as lawn for 32 years until I retired. now I am going great guns with a vegetable patch and orchard and a few flowers and shrubs. I have enjoyed building it up over the year but am expecting a show next year. Members of A4All dont know it but I have been brain picking from you all the whole time I have been a member. I thank you ... what a brilliant site this is .... Ray
We all pick off each other Ray, so you are in real company there ... I agree, this is a brilliant site. And good luck with your show next year !!!
Derekthefox :D
Anyone in south Birmingham?
No Derek... I meant a show as in sitting in garden 8) with all me vegies in and growing and me flowery shrubs flowering and the fruit bushes fruiting ... for me nice to make contact with you ... Ray
Oops Ray, I am quite good at getting it wrong, ask anyone on this site !!! Enjoy your garden anyway and as for making contact - the pleasure is mine too !

At 6 a.m. we herad the blast, the refinery is approx 7 miles from us. M1 is closed. They say it will burn for 4 days before they can try to put out the flames. See News 24 on the box!

The heavy clay bit sounds like hard graft too. Yes, the security issue would upset me, after all our allotments are like our homes ...

Sure is and it was thrown in free of charge :)
"Shed" will be such a bonus when you want to have a sit and a cuppa after you start aching!! Good luck. Lorna
already got camping stove, kettle and frying pan in there (You need to have the priorities right)Â Â ::)
Hi all,
Since the explosions in Hemel Hempstead I realised that my plot is sited; not just in the grounds of old house on land "allotted to the poor" 100+ years ago; not just close to the flood plain protecting the fine city of Norwich: But ... we are also in the blast zone near to the chemical works. I guess that will keep us safe from housing development. I wonder if it was planned that way?
Col
Lovely pictures Jenny. Bet the plots look a bit different tomorrow! (As in snow)
jennym. were the pictures taken Christmas eve? Nice bit of sunshine. Did you get the fog in the evening? I see the "table" is nicely placed to enjoy cuppas.!! Thanks for sharing. Lorna.
Lorna - I think I took them about a week ago and yes, it was a gloriously sunny afternoon though. My recycled pub bench comes in handy for all sorts of things. ;D
TM - yes, snow maybe here - am going to wander over this morning and do some things while I can, the soil's not too soggy at the moment
Excellent fruit cage Jen, I feel inspired to do something like that myself ...
Derekthefox.
I'm in Walsall Wood West Mids - Greenfields - We have 80+ plots in all. We've had our plot for about 7 years.
lynndan. Don't remember welcoming you, then again my memory often fails me!!!!
This is a great site isn't it? Regards Lorna.
I just noticed your bench too Jen, that looks really sturdy. I made a sturdy bench too, mine is a seat for sitting on, but it is robust enough to be used for many things ...
Nothing like building versatility into things, my shed doubles as a sitting room come diner ;D
not sure if this will work, so fingers crossed - here are couple of before and during photos of my lottie (4 in total if it works!) ... going to do some more digging tomorrow, weather permitting

Worked fine mc55, great pictures and what a difference all your hard work has made. A big well done and I hope you have many hours/weeks/months/years there. Thanks for showing.
Yes impressive pictures michelle(?). It is always satisfying to see the before and after pictures, and these are helpful when you feel demoralised.
hurrah - glad it worked. Have been digging up some interesting crops - bindweed ... mmm (little disturbed to discover that sweet potatoes are related :( ) and bizarrely rusty 2" nails ... loads and loads of them ???
Am about to start reading Joy Larkcom's Growing Vegetables book ... CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING !!!!
hi mc55
you have worked really hard on your plot it will be well worth the effort. :D
Lorna thankyou for the welcome and yes it's a brilliant site. I've enjoyed looking through the posts and am feeling a bit more enthusiastic now about the coming season. I must admit I had thought of giving up my plot as it seemed to be more of a chore than a pleasure but I should be retiring at the end of next year and so I'll give it another go and see how I feel then.
Regards Lynn
Hi all
I'm in sunny Weston-super-Mare
Any other locals about?
Hello to everyone in loverly Milton Keynes, where my plot is :)
Mine's in Walthamstow, London
Hello! I'm new here so please bear with me whilst I try and find my way around :-\
My lottie (s) are in Nottingham. I was secretary of our Society for 2 yrs but got fed up of people moaning at me, so I've given up the role. Shortly before the rent is due ... VERY GOOD TIMING ON MY PART!
Hope to get to know you all soon ;D

Mine is a half-plot in Hastings (on the South Coast) run as raised beds. I mix flowers with food crops, because we all need a bit of colour in our lives.
Chesterfield.. Old Whittington.. could be a bowling green at the moment until I break the sod.. ( in the nicest of ways..) heyup to Cricket in Kirkby.. used to live in Sutton.
Hi I'm new to the allotments 4 all forum. My names Mave my hubbie Jim and I have two allotment plots in Warrington.
A ten minute walk from home in Hertford. And very nice it is too. ;D
hi mine is in sunny somerset, which I have not long taken the plot on. it is a half plot, but I hope to get another half in April.
I not done a lot due to work commitments and the plot has been to too wet to do anything.
It is not the first lottie I have had.
they were both in Lancashire: the first was near a housing estate, which had water and a security gate and a shed but the soil was not that good the other was on grade A agricultural land.
My double plot is in Harmondsworth, near Heathrow.
500sq mtrs, full of cooch, but will be working very hard to get the ground ready for the spring growing season. Had plots for two weeks now.
It is a bit claggy, with clay about a spades depth, but will be adding horse manure etc, to remedy the problem. Luckily i have a horse field out the back, and the owner says i can help myself to the manure, as much as i want, helps to keep the field clean.
Anyone near me? :D :D ;D
I am in Kings Norton Birmingham.
Mine is on Green Hill in High Wycombe...anyone else nearby?

i always enjoy popping on here just to see what's going on with who where, and i am in awe of all you people that have put in so much hard work on your lotties. i look at my tiny plot and think how much effort that took, and then look at yours and sigh. you all deserve medals. i came in at close of dig tonight giggling to myself, thinking how wonderful i'm hoping it's going to be in the summer and can't wait to piccies of all yours to give me something to aspire to.

hi everyone, this looks like the place to be on a snowy morning such as this. I have been lurking a good while and feel i know some of you pretty well, but am a bit shy so will probably only pop my head up occasionally. :-[
My half plot is in sunny bournemouth, and i have a love/panic relationship with it at the moment. the plans i have drawn are very pretty, but a jinxed combination of sick children and inclement weather have resulted in me being pretty well behind schedule. still lots of digging to do, and my windowsills are chocka. potaoes are chitting etc etc. i am taking the advise i found here somewhere to remember to enjoy and am trying not to panic, but still feel a bit like i am trying to jump onto a moving merry go round. The advice i have been gaining from this site is invaluable and I'd like to say thanks! and Hi ;)
Hi Sarah. Glad you are enjoying A4A. Although I haven't got an allotment I do love my garden (better than housework!!) since being told about this site just about a year ago I have really spent many happy hours reading posts and getting loads of advice. Also made many virtual friends. Have fun

Not many Scots on the list so I'll fly the flag for Edinburgh - Telferton Allotments (80 + years in existence) We're actually 'squatters' as the land has been bought by developers (long story) but so far our council has denied planning permission.
Have had a quick look through, not at all I confess!! Mine is in a lovely little village just ouside of Northampton. I'm the only person in it as the site is tiny, it looks out over fields and an orchard that houses alot of old variety apples. I LOVE IT ;D
West Molesey in Surrey, just up the road from the Hampton Court Flower Show !

I'm in Cleethorpes, N E Lincolnshie...Beacon Hill allotments...
Famous for the Incredible Edible Rounderbout.....and Mr Mac Gregor's garden....The rounderbout is close by and yes you guess it...we have planted it with veg...and this year we or rather Ernie Brown, our driving force has made a mini allotment complete with mini shed and picket fence in a prime location by the Pier to promote the allotment and healthy eating...the Britain in bloom judges have been very impressed with his effort and last year Cleethorpes got 2nd place...some would say due to the Incredible Edible Rounderbout....
Bel ;D
In East Leeds, if suru reads this where abouts are you?
Anyone in Hastings, East sussex? ( This might explain why half the plots in our site are empty ???)
coznbob No I am not BUT I wish I was living in East Sussex again!!!!
Hastings has changed a lot in the last few years since we moved here. (then again so have we- never would have got an allotment when I was back in London) although would be happy to move to one of the small villages around here if we could!
Fenstanton Cambridgeshire
Black Lane Allotments in Leamington Spa. Used to be a brickworks nearby - hence clay. Problems with the usual pests + deer + badgers + rabbits. Great views of the golf course and occasional golf balls on the plots.

I'm a newbie in Norfolk. Saw my plot for the first time last night, haven't signed the agreement or got the keys yet but am itching to get started! The plot is a bit bigger than most of the others; the usual rectangle plus a bit extra at one end, so more of a triangle. It was a bit difficult to see much in the gloom last night but there's a shed (possibly used for chickens), two trees (one apple and one something else) and a LOT of nettles!!! Any advice on where to start very gratefully received.
My plot is on a lovely site in Guildford. All of the plots are taken and the majority of them are well worked, we do have one lovely old fella who's just had a heart attack so I've suggested we set up a rota to keep the weeds down a bit for him.
The site is in a very sheltered site in a dip between a wetlands centre and the river. With quite dense trees along three sides. The soil is a fabulous sandy loam and the underlying water level appears to be quite good.
We don't suffer too much from rabbits and I'm quite frankly amazed at the lack of slugs and snails on the site ... ? is the soil too sandy for them I wonder?
Wheres that Wellingtons as I am on the Aldershot road site - behind the Mercedes garage - the site that GBC want to build on!

My allotment is in Liversedge West Yorkshire.
Ours is in Barnes, South West London
This is a long thread....I got to page 8 then skipped to the end. I'll have to read some more later. My allotment is in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. I see there are a few other posters nearby. I have had it a year now. I was hoping to go there today but it decided to pour down so hopefully it will be dry enough tomorrow.
Newbie in south London here, allotment is in Eltham. And there are still some spaces free I think, if anyone is looking just contact Greenwich Council. It's very overgrown and being reclaimed. :) I'm hoping my plot will help me forget that I'm in south London actually. ;)
Ta,
Tina.

Hi Timelady I was born and bred in Eltham. Vandyke Cross Off Eltham Hill!!! Went to The Odeon last year when visiting my sister in Erith. She always goes to the Odeon for her Saturday Bingo session ;D ;D Most of my (large)family still live Eltham/Blackfen/Sidcup.
Lorna
Cool! This is on Middle Park Ave. I actually live over in Lee Green and cycle over but Greenwich lets non-residents have allotments too. We pay about £8 more a year. :D That's pretty good if there's still an Odeon in Eltham!
Sure is a small world. Late brothers widow and daughter still live in Gregory Crescent,(off Middle Park Avenue)
Mine is in South Birmingham..It's mostly grass at the moment :o
Geo.. :)
Hi all, i've just read all the way through this thread, can you believe it? Neither can i lol! Anyway, my new lottie (that i just signed the papers on today woohoo!) is in Sleaford, in Lincolnshire. I'm a total newbie, and can't wait to get going on my new plot! x
Congrats kitten! I'm a completely newbie too and am in week 3 of the allotment and just loving it. :) You'll have a blast!
Tina.
Geo....Grass is not bad as long as it's not couch grass then you have a problem.
mines in Alcester Warwickshire
Mine is in Guisborough, Cleveland - part of the Teeside area. All plots full and a good waiting list too. Just read all 22 pages. Took ages. Didnt find anyone from here. After 22 pages! :o

I am on Barkers lane allotments...... don't know where Allen Park is?
Good to see some people from MK too - just down the road....

Don't forget you can add your location to the
Member Map (http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,91/action,googlemap)
And then everyone can see the spread of people round the country (world!)
Dan
Crops of eelgrass, anyone? ;)
According to the Members' Map... Eldegard, Ace, Fozzylozzy and Louise Stella are in mid-Channel (tres chic at this time of year, if a little blowy!)
Then there's Razorboy, in the Bristol Channel, and AlanP, in the Irish Sea along with Shaz and Chrispea27.
Ozzy's in the Atlantic Ocean and Caff53 and Demeter are heading that way too... (not so much container gardening as container shipping?)
and if you want to know about frost protection, ask Merry Tiller, whose plot is somewhere on an icefield in Iceland ;D

about 65 plots and great friendly people.
Not too far from mine and Plot73's site. We're in Tilgate in Crawley. Lovely and peaceful at our site, you really wouldn't believe we're only 10 minutes from gatwick! :)
Sarah
I just wanted to bring this one to the top.
Anyone in the Chelsmford area in Essex????? ;D
Hi Sarah
Where are the plots in tilgate?

Hi Sarah
Where are the plots in tilgate?
Andy
The allotments are on the edge of Tilgate Park, close to the Golf Course (There is a gate on the left, about 50 meters before the Fisherman's Car Park).
Oh right! Never noticed them, I go to our scuba hut near there then where all the other huts are for various things.
Yep I know them, went to the Forest Theatre a few times before got burned down.
Hi all
I'm in Horsford north of Norwich, only picked up this plot late last year, sharing it with a mate. At the moment recycling a large stack of new pallets into all sorts of things. Managed to pick them up from work, they had hundreds of them that they couldn't get rid of.
Brilliant site
Hundreds of pallets ;D
Bliss, you can make anything out of them.
ohhhhhhhhhh..............just used that member map thingy to put my pin where the lottie is.................scary!
you can zoom in enough to see the shed roofs!
only trouble is the pics they use seem a little dated.............my plot looks as tho it hasnt been worked on?
is this based on that "google earth" thingy..........and are the pics updated regularly?
would be nice to see how the plot looks now with al the beds in and sheds removed.........plus id be able to watch my carrots grow from 20,000 feet.....lol

I think you will find that a lot of the images of the UK used on Google earth, were taken in or around 2002-2003, although there do seem to be a few that were taken more recently.
BTW my name is Alan, and my allotment is on the Bants Lane site in Northampton. Not much going on there yet as we only got it in October and my knee gave out within a week or so of taking it on.
I've reserved my new one today at Commercial road in Staines.
Is anybody else there?
If so, send me a pm. :D
Mine is at Saltwell, in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear. I've only had it for about 30 years, so I am still tidying it up. ;D ::)
Hi ALL ;D,if you wont to see a allotment plot which is like no other in the rest of the world please contact me,and I will meet you there, it's on the Google Map too.
It's on the Course which is just off the A20 at the 5 ways juction off of Green lane going towards Chislehurst in-between Eltham London SE9.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John. J.R.P.
We're on the King George's allotment site (http://www.kgallotments.fsnet.co.uk/) in Audenshaw. :)
Ringmer Road in Worthing, West Sussex. It's a big site, I wonder if I have any neighbours on here...?
Just read through this WHOLE thread, and there's only me and plottie in Preston - surely not! Come on, anyone else near Preston?
:)
I'm in Penwortham, Valley Road, to be precise! You'll recognise me by the big blue tarpaulin and lots of grass!
Mine is on Beacon Hill in Cleethorpes, North East Lincs.
I am will be GOBSMACKED if anyone else is local!
I'm at the Kings Lynn site, anybosy else close by?
Hi,Neil the newbie here ;D
mine is in Glue Lane,Loscoe,Derbyshire :)
I am saddened, although not entirely shocked to find nobody else on the Kings Lynn sites. There are so many empty here. Also, those that do have them close their 7 foot gates and work quietly, really quite unsociable. There is no committee or association of any type, with just two or three friendly old hands (myself included) who are willing to help the newbies.
Although, saying that, I gave some newbies some beautiful strawberry plants, then, over night they came and robbed my shed! How rude! I hasten to add I got it all back, as I went down to their plot, and low and behold, there was all my stuff!!! GRRR!
Not allowed to have a shed here in Horley, low cupboard is ok but sitting on chair in it is ok if only 2ft tall......
All friendly people though.
First post here, so be kind....
I've not had the stamina to read through all 24 pages of this thread, but my half allotment is in Chester. I'm thinking of taking on a second on the same site, as I've got far too many seeds to fit into just half an allotment.
My name is HappyMouffetard and I'm a seed buying addict :-[
Welcome seed adict!!!
It is easy to get too many seeds and then another plot then another plot!!!!
Have fun, nothing else matters!

Hi, I'm one of those peole who can't fit any more veggies in their garden and so have decided to apply for a half plot. I have seen both West Wickham and Bourne Vale allotments and was wondering if anyone knows anything about either which would help me decide which to go for?
If you know the post code it is really good fun to look at your lottie from space, I use local.live.com

i think i'm on my lonesome too.
im at oxford road in fegg hayes, stoke.
there are plenty of empty plots here if anyone fancies a bit of hard graft!
i've tried looking at our plots on google earth, but they are rather fuzzy, think i'll try your way saddad.

I'm another alone in my part of Chelmsford. Problem with mine is it is on a small site, and I am one of the youngest residents. One day I will go nosey about some of the other allotments in Chelmsford like the one near the Miami roundabout and the ones by Chelmer village going towards argos.
Quite lonely down here on the pimple of the bum of Essex too EJ. Getting a fair mix of old and younger on our site and I do spread the gospel of A4A to anyone I think may be interested. Maybe they lurk, who knows. ;D
Hi my plot is in Lincolnshire Sutton On Sea right near to the sea very nice in the summer but not so good in the winter.
Hi :)
I'm in Market Harborough and ... I shall say this really quietly.......
I have 3 plots... (each 100 x 30 ft) all next to each other. :-[
One we've had for 2 years and the other two are new this year and were 5ft high in brambles. They are now cleared and we have a beautiful old apple tree at the end of them.
Thats equal to about 12 of ours! wow
My allotment is in Buckinghamshire.
hi im in redditch worcs too!! walkwood
My allotment is in Humphrey Park, Urmston, Manchester and it has a waiting list now, although when I started 5 years ago, there were plenty of empty plots. As I live on a cul de sac, I can walk straight through my neighbour's garden, onto his plot then through to mine... absolutely love it.
Today I have been working on the computer, then popping over there for an hour, then working, then digging, it's great. My dog hates it though, whenever she sees me popping out with my gardening bag, she throws things around, never damages them, just throws everything she can find on the floor... her equivalent of a "paddy"... I've stopped telling her off, I just put everything back! Lin
my allotment is in Street Somerset, just got it today
Mine is in South West Dublin nearly into Kildare just got it last summer during the heatwave
mine is in darnall sheffield just got it today 5/5/07 lots of lovely weeding
Have two in two villages in Warks. The village I live in and site of my first lottie is in Kitchen Garden Mag this month - Withybrook. Elmhurst Organic Farm are holding an event to raise funds for Macmillan cancer charity. I'll post details on the news site.
I'm On Estcourt Road in Gloucester!.......Anybody else on here with me?
Mine backs onto Winchester prison! It's north facing, the prison wall is about 8 feet high, with an even higher bank on the wall, and HUGE self-seeded sycamore trees on the bank. Gives too much shade, but loads of leaf mould. Can't have sheds, though (escaping prisoners might try to hide in them!!!). It's 5 mins walk from home, which is great. I share it with my two sons, and our name is near the top of the waiting list for another lottie, about 5 mins drive away, but where we can have a polytunnel. I used to have a 8x14 ft greenhouse, and miss it so much.
Emma Jane I used to live in Romford, then moved to sunny Somerset :) but I never had a lottie there as I had a large garden
I have a new lottie in Somerset' I moved from a half plot to a full on another site. As the other one was to waterlogged, and the other lottie holders a far more friendly, anyone else in Somerset
Iain
i've recently got my new one after being on a list for 2 1/2 years here in south wales. i previously helped my sister in law with her plot (when i say help i mine do all the work while she disappears!!)
I have a half plot in Chester, the soil is fantastic to work with. Sheds are provided on all the plots. Have the chance to rent the adjacent plot, but need to clear and establish my own plot first.
Hi Green pea, I'm in Gloucester, would have loved a plot on Estcourt road but no spaces when we enquired. My plot is Tredworth fields / Hawthornes site, it's been in the news as one that developers want to build on!
Just taken the plunge and got a plot on the Court Lane site in Erdington, N.Birmingham.
Would have liked to get Sheffield Rd or Sunny Bank but all full :( The allotments them selves at Court Lane seem very nice - just that the surroundings are a little off putting (deafened by kids on mini-motos the other afternoon).
Hello all,
Have just flown in, after seeing the link from Gloucesterwomble's website!
I'm very new, and have just got a plot in Innsworth, Gloucester. What's all this about builders threatening Tredworth???
Shall we will fight them with our pitchforks, and chain ourselves to the waterbutts?
hettybella welcome to A4A, lots of information to be found from very experienced gardeners.allotment holders. We also have quite a lot of fun, we do have one of two comedians.. not to mention any names ;D Hope you enjoy being a member.

Hello
My plot is next to strangford Lough near Newtownards in Northern Ireland.
Are there any other NI allotmenteers?
x sunloving
Mine is in Sacriston, which is just south of Chester Le Street, Durham, for all you cricket lovers out there!
I haven't seen this post before (thanks to EJ for bumping it or would never have done!) and there are far to many posts to read through. Sorry. Am I the only Durham allotmenteer on here or does anyone else know anyone in my area?
Springburn Road, North Glasgow
Maybe now we have an influx of newbies on our site in GREAT WAKERING- some will post here too ;D
It is amazing how many posters there are, and yet how few are on allotments with fellow a4all-ers. I am going to start a new thread! ;D
May be we need to divide into regions.
Good idea Kea, I will start East Anglia. ;D
I'll join you....in East Anglia!
Just need other peeps to launch their regions.

Welcome to the site CBF... love the tag, usede to break at least one a year when I was breaking in my lotties... ;D
