Title: Peppadew Seeds offered
Post by: tricia on September 15, 2008, 23:56:57
I have 4 packets each of 20 + seeds from my two isolated plants. They should only be grown if they can be kept isolated from all other pepper plants and the resulting seeds offered next year so that a seed bank can be built up among swappers. This is because the seeds are not available commercially as they are protected. I was grateful for seeds given to me on another forum so I am happy to carry on the good work. So, first come first served! PM me if you are interested.

Mine have just arrived - thanks Tricia!  Really looking forward to growing these.  Will make sure they are completely isolated so more seed can be saved.

Helen - it's up to you, but from my own experience Peppadew seeds do not germinate easily and I would hate for you to end up with no plants next year!

How far apart do we sow them away from other pepper plants?

Thanks

Hello Tricia, I have just spotted your post and went to look up the plant. I would love some seeds if there any left although I realise I am a bit late.
Have sent a message.

You would have to grow them quite a long way apart. It's probably easier to isolate them by enclosing whole plants in e.g. a muslin cage or bagging the flowers before they open.

Thanks so much Tricia, these were great to grow and so prolific! No wonder these are trademarked!
I harvest a carrier bag full from 3 plants!

So glad they finally ripened Rosie! My two plants indoors did quite well, too - but nowhere near as well as yours did. I chomp on one or two a day filled with cream cheese. Lovely  ;) and freeze the rest. I won't need any next year so I'm going to put the plants in the GH just to see if they survive the winter. If they don't - no big deal. I still have plenty of saved seeds for the future.

I had to cut mine back because it flowered before I enclosed it. It's been enclosed ever since but hasn't flowered again so I've brought it inside where it's a bit warmer and lighter.
