By now most people should have received the recent offer of 100 free bulbs. Due to the bad weather of late, mine have not yet been planted.
1) Is there still time for them to grow if sown this week?
2) Will they be OK if I put them straight in the ground in this cold spell?
I don't want to leave it too late so they go to waste. What did you do with yours?
Plant them. I'm not sure what they are, but even if it's not the proper season, they'll still grow.
I have not put mine in yet it will be about 2 weeks before i get around to planting them as i still need to dig over the beds in the back garden and bring in more soil but i think that if i wait the soil will be warmer and the bulbs will have less chace of rotting.
I put some cheap daffs in last January (07) and they flowered late but have come up at the right time this year!
;D
ah but does your garden had about 1/2 inch of standing water ;)
I have not been able to go out the back garden for the last month as i think i might just sink ;D
I was wondering the same. The bulbs are "sparaxis"
"ranunculus"
"anenomes"
"Ixias"
I have some sparaxis which I planted in a large pot , and did very well . Sorry to hear you are under water cambourne7 I hope it dries out soon
what free bulbs are these?

Thanks its one of the problems with clay its can only absorbe so much water then it just sits on the top.
I have to go out with a fork and go over the grass and borders to help let it dry out but its just 2 wet at the moment.
I've just put some ranunculus and anemone to soak overnight and I've put a couple of Ixias and Sparaxis in pots for my mum and grandma just to see how they do. Might plant mine out this weekend, if I can keep the d**n dog off my flower patch!
I put mine into pots,3 to a pot in the unheated greenhouse. I will plant them when it warms up a bit (for me ;D) Quite a few have popped up already.

I think they were freebies from a paper or magazine, my friend got some last year. At least I presume thats what these guys got too ;)
Someone posted a link to an offer. Quite a lot of us got the bulbs, but then they took the offer off (probably fed up of sending packs out to A4A members ;D)
cj :)
Oh dear.....you all got rumbled then ;D ;D
I feel there could be a bulb swop around the corner.......well later in the year ;)
Same company have new free off er , you needn to get nhte link off thethread
put mine in, in a fashion!! they havnt shown yet though!
I've put mine into pots and they are sitting outside the greenhouse. I'm not really expecting anything to come up just yet. I soaked the ranunculus and anemones for two days (couldn't get back to them as early as I wanted) and wow did they swell up. If - sorry, when - they do come up, I shall plant the whole lot as a clump into the garden when they have finished flowering.
can you give the link to the thread with the offer?
Anyone's doing anything? Think mine are sulking!
Only just put mine in soak today, my best friend planted hers in pots last week and they are all poking through, she kept them in her plastic greenhouse. Speeded them along by the looks of things :)
Mine are not doing anything yet either :(
Mine are in my little plastic greenhouse but because of the condensation, they seem to be quite damp so I'm thinking I might take them out during the day while its warmish and pop them back at night. Well at least until the frost turns up on weekend.
None of them are showing ANY signs of doing anything!! Aaaarrrggghhhh!
Give them a chance! Would you want to stick your nose out of nice cosy soil, when one minute it's snowing, the next it's sleeting then it's so sunny you need to strip off. If they are decent bulbs they'll come up in their own time if they're rotten old bulbs you haven't wasted anything. Mine aren't doing anything either so when I talk to them next I'll tell them they're rotten old bulbs (but I will say it nicely just in case!)
our free gladioli bulbs are just starting to sprout ;D
OK so I'm impatient too ::) I've just been out and given them a poke - the pots that is - and the Sparaxis are definately on the move. I didn't do the others but if one lot is thinking about coming up then I expect the others are too ;D
Lol - 1 anemone is showing it's face. absolutely nothing anywhere else though! so have prodded and poked them rofl ;D
on eof each of mine are coming up, they are in pots in a coldgreenhouse. I have leftover bulbs so I am wondering if these can just be planted straight into the ground
I would have thought once the risk of frost is past then they should be ok to go in. No expert mind! :)
Put mine in the ground, treating them like any bulb! Will let you know if they come up :)
Sparaxis and Ixias are up. ;D ;D (They are in pots outside the greenhouse).
I have lost all my labels for the ones I planted but 4 out of the 7 pots planted have come up now and doing well
I put Iaxis and Saraposa in the ground last week.
The Ranunculus (doesn't it sound like something from Harry Potter?) are growing, the Sparaxis and Ixias that I potted for my grandmother are up, but the anemones aren't doing anything at all. I don't hold out much hope for them as they've been in a pot for over a month now in my mini greenhouse.
Just thought I'd better let you know that the ranunculus corms I had are riddled with tiny transparent maggots!
I just poked around in a pot of them in the greenhouse and each pot (5 of them ) was the same. It could just be mine, but best you all check incase it is something that will do lots of damage.
I now understand why countries have such a strong policy on importing plant material. They looked fine when they arrived!
cj :)
Mine are up, not sure what ones they are but they are growing a treat. I put them directly into the ground round my Acer and Plum tree.
Sinbad
Just checked and the one ranunculus that's come up at home seems fine, as do the ones coming up. I'm very disappointed with anemones though, I've had 1 out of about 10 come up. No maggots anywhere so far but I'll keep an eye out.
Mine are flowering have anyone else's done any good?

I asked on here Baccy Man, so others would remember the free bulbs I was on about:)
Not sure what the ones are under my Acer but they are real pretty, also the anemone's under the plum tree are a lovely shade of blue and have quite a few in flower now.

Sinbad I did not comment on your post I commented on PurpleHeathers link which I clicked on because I assumed it would be for free flower bulbs as that is what this thread is about. I found it was in fact an expired offer for free lightbulbs which I wouldn't of wasted my time looking at as I already have 5 black bags of free lightbulbs sitting in the attic which have been sent/given to me unsolicited by various companies over the last few years. Even if I had a desire to add another 2 bulbs to the collection the offer would of required me to buy a product I wouldn't normally consider purchasing & invent a time machine so I could go back to the time when the offer was actually valid, I'm led to believe inventing a time machine is quite a difficult process so I thought I would point out the offer has expired so nobody has to waste their time trying to do it.
Ohhhhhhhh, Baccy Man I only wanted to know how everyone's free Parker's bulbs had done LOLOL
Maybe a car boot sale for you to off load some of those light bulbs :)
