Bit vague that one. I looked on the map of the UK and it was only described as the North! Enlighten me lovely Northerners. ;D
I'm in Tadcaster, between Leeds and York.
I'm in Manchester, sunny and cloudy at the moment. :)
I'm not the proud owner of a lottie (yet) ;)....but I'm in Poynton, Cheshire.....it's a large village midway between Stockport and Macclesfield. (with a long, long, long waiting list for allotments! :'()
EJ you could have North of England west of the Pennines and East of the Pennines but that could be a bit divisive. ;)
I'm in Chester.
Creckless, I lived in Poynton for a couple of years - loved living there, but wasn't interested in allotments at the time.
I was born in Cheadle Hulme, and my brother is headteacher at Poynton Vernon school! I moved across the pennines a long time ago, via Scotland!
I'm in Chester too, just caught out in a rain shower
Mine's in Sacriston which is a small ex-mining village just south of Chester Le Street in Durham where they have the famous Riverside Cricket Ground.
There's loads of lottie sites near and around here, but I rekon I'm the only one on this forum for miles and miles :D
I`m nowhere near the north of England. somewhere between Upminster and Ongar (In Essex ) 8)
we're in Golborne, near-ish to Manchester, I always thought we were classed as North-West ;D

Depends on where you live really. If you live near London it seems to start from Milton Keynes, but if you live up near me it starts at about Harrogate IMO! ;)
I think that unofficially (and ridiculously) it starts at about Derby which is Midlands really!
I'm on the Kingsway North allotment site in Warrington, Cheshire.
North west of England.
TGF :D
I am currently at the pea road site in Stanley county Durham but moving this weekend to a new site in tantobie which is at least waist high with free weeds ::) ;D
That begs the question "Why?", Flower? :D

All my family still live in and around Durham. My Dad and uncle have had their plots in Bowburn for over 30 years now. I believe their father had them before they took them over.
Mine is on The Wirral (north west)

no, green fingers bypassed Mark - his small patch (garden) is an embarrassment to the family ! My mum & dad have a lottie in Whitby and mine is in Sheffield.
thanks very much for the link kt :)
Drove past an allotment site in Whitby at the weekend- wonder if it was theirs?
do you know whereabouts ? Their site is opposite the Grammar School (near to the new bridge), but it's tucked away behind a housing estate and a few fields, so I don't think it would have been the same one.
No, I think this one was quite near the abbey- can't quite remember!

Between this site and another I visit we could have a really good local knees up for folks in the Gateshead/Durham area!
My UK lottie was just outside Skipton, Gateway to the Dales.
My plots on West View in Clitheroe Lancashire. Close to Skipton but on the red side of the border!!!! So I'm North West. Closest person I think is in Nelson or Preston I've seen so far!
My new plot is in Woolston, Warrington.

Hi manic :)
Plot 70 Quarry Road, Eaglescliffe, Stockton on Tees - very overgrown so a work in progress - think there are quite a few plots still going but again overgrown and need lots of work - im just one of about a half a dozen new people on the site
I have seen the pictures and you have your work cut out.
Mine had been left for 3 years and the couch grass and ran riot over what was very cultivated ground. The roots are/where a mat down to around 6 inches. I have dug over the plot apart from one area about 3 times by hand with a fork picking the roots out. First dig they were about 12 inches long, second 3 to 6 inches and third time about a inch with shoots on. I am still getting bits coming through and the potato bed is more like a cereal field but I will hand weed that when the rows are clearly through.
I get LOADS of advice from the old hands around me but at the end of the day I am doing the work and have done my own thing at times.
The guys are VERY generous with plants and bits and pieces, I got a 80' hose from the guy next door on a reel with all fittings in spot on nick because he had loads ( he cut his in half last week with the rotavator so probably regrets giving it away).
24 mixed tomato plants today and I get all the left over seedlings when the guys have pricked out what they want ...nearly forgot 24 dahlia cuttings the other day.
The only problem with the 'garden' is the hours fly by .
YESSSSSSSSS
I have got my lottie, higher lane here in Liverpool.
I will put some before pictures up later as I only took a few yesterday because of the rain.
So will take some more when I go to the lottie later and post them when I work out how.
But believe me it is in a right state
Congratulations! Loooking forward to the pics!
Oh and I have marked where my plot is on the map in my profile
hi there , new plot keeper here , we are in hull east yorkshire , our double plot is some 500 sq yds , our council owned site is in newland avenue area, there are some 270 plots in aboutr 26 acres , most plot keepers here are great , the old timers are a mind of info about growing stuff
I know where that is , Peter- my son's just finishing uni in Hull and has been living off Newland Ave for the last couple of years. Quite a few A4A members round Hull.
hiya, peterjf, welcome to the site ;D
Am currently sitting at number 37 on an 87 people long waiting list for an allotment in Wallsend, North Tyneside. However, should i get one on the site i have as first choice, it is practically at the end of my street and deffo only two minutes walk away :D.
Hiya, Rixy, nice to meet you, sounds like an ideal place for you ;D
When I got my plot, I had a choice of two- one was at the end of the street but right next to a farmer's field, unfenced , very overgrown and reputed to be infested with rats and rabbits. The other was about a mile away, cheaper and had been covered in black plastic for a year or so. I chose the second one, but I'm still not sure I made the right choice, especially when I see the big pile of manure left next to the first one by the farmer!
My plot is at Heath Lane, Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port
My alllotment is in Alsager, there are none where i live in Congleton....
Not seen it yet, was just notified today that i have one! Yipee ;D
;D hello everyone, I'm new to this site and it is fantastic!! My allotment is in Felixstowe Suffolk. I took it on last october - 10 rods! It hadn't been worked for about 18 months and of course didn't look too bad in the autumn. Boy did I get a shock last week after the rain and sun (the little we have had) and the weeds have grown!!!! Every where!!!!
A good friend of mine has volunteered to go halves with me so that will make it so much easier but I'm still finding it daunting when I get down there.
I want to do it all organically too. I'm collecting a scythe from a friend tomorrow to cut down those weeds and grass and then get carpet and thick plastic down until we are ready to attack it.
Lovely talking, must go and organise my two girls.
Kirstie

My son graduated from Hull uni last year and lived off Newland for 2 years, and we rent out a property in that area too.

hello :)
I live in Selby, don't have an allotment (even though some are available in selby) because of parish council boundaries! My parish council don't have any allotments so we cant have one even though they are only a mile away and I pay more than £1700 a year in council tax.....
anyone hears of any private ones i would appreciate it :)
Thanks
leralc
Hiya, leralc, welcome to a4a ;D
hope you get a plot soon :)
Hi Leralc
That's rotten. Do you have a parish council? Write to them, and get five other people to do the same, and they have to consider your request for an allotment. Most of your council tax goes to your borough/county council, not to your parish council.
Welcome to A4A.
Hi
Don't have an allotment, just a long narrow and very steep back garden that I am trying to grow all our veg in. plus 2 greenhouses
We are having to terrace it, done 3 just 3 more to go.
In Cleckheaton
The Brierton site in Hartlepool, on the North- east coast, where the Tall Ships race is coming in August (little plug there!)- just a third of a lottie which I share with a friend (since january this year), but it's just the right size and I love it!

Hi Detailista, Which site was it that you had a plot on in Benwell? We've just moved from the West Benwell allotment to Denton Dene, had our shed broken into 4 times in 3 months so we were desperate to get out. Spent ages getting the 7 foot weeds downs too so we weren't impressed!! Its rather exciting moving to our new plot though ;D Good luck in yours

Yes, the Benwell site was very run down- lots of empty plots and surrounded by a housing estate - used as a thoroughfare. Lots of breakins, animals injured deliberately and mindless vandalism.
Throckley is a dream - overlooks the river, and sheep on a hill opposite and seems fairly secure though like any site there have been a few breaks ins with things pinched but not the wanton vandalism.
