we're on a site where there was a lot of bomb damage and sometimes I dig up bits of burnt house.
Do people use the map thingy on this site? - I'd really like to see all the markers of where we are on the map, but lots of people don't seem to like using them.
mind you i haven't checked for ages so maybe i'm wrong!
ooo Pigeon, interesting, my Nan and Gramps used to live in Wandle Road in Morden. Spent many a summer childhood day getting into mischief in the river. Mum still lives in Sutton. :D
Linton, South Cambs. About 25x15 metres of the back garden, rather than an allotment though. Allotments may be coming to our village next year, though :)

Hi, Ceratonia - your strawberry cuttings have gone a bit mad and are fruiting for the second time this year.
Just putting this to where it can be found by lost East Anglians :)

Bocking, Essex - very free drainage + no water laid on but the views out across the countryside and the friendships made more than make up for the minor inconveniences.
Hello all!! Mine is in Felixstowe in sunny suffolk (for today). Just taken on in october 2007 after being left for about 18 mths by the previous "owners".

Barkingside, Essex - just outside London (to the North East). Newly acquired and just starting to clear out the couch grass!

anyone have an allotment near littleport?
Ipswich, just taken on my plot on a really lovely friendly site.
Off Western Road on the Magdelan in Gorleston on Sea. My father and I have been there for 3 years now. Plots 27 and 28? (Not sure of the No. for the second plot but it is right next door)
We are only able to get there at weekends though my dad does pop up most days to maintain and plant but it does mean that our plots are not the tidiest or as far along as others - always a source of envy on our part :0)
We're the people who always bring the Collie.
Anyone else cultivate up there. ???

sorry mark45, I missed this! yes, at the lakenham baths site opposite city hall. there are over 70 plots and most are now taken - the allotment officer got a few derelict and overgrown sites cleared last year and they weren't empty for long! Allen Spooner doesn't ring any bells, but I've only ever met the same dozen or so plot holders with plots off the same path as mine. don't know mile cross or costessey so well, we used to live off thorpe road (by the mustard pot pub) but moved to lakenham a couple of years ago and I love living in norfolk :)

Hello and welcome to the site Lightyears, ;D
Hi lightyears! welcome to the site!
I travel past them plots most days! ;)
Hi Wattapain,
Wow - I had two plots on Cut Throat Lane for ages until about 2 years ago. I live in Braintree so you can imagine how excited I was to get a plot at Station Lane in Braintree (for this reason I gave up the Witham plots). I live in Braintree so Witham was a 'better than nothing but not perfect site'.
The 'old boys' on the site were great - I found it hard to leave without flowers, fruit or whatever veg had been harvested that week, especially if (as usual) my attempts at horticulture had failed for whatever reason.
Good luck - Your posting has reminded me of all the really good times I had at Cut Throat Lane. I loved it, but it must be a 'finalist' for the ugliest site in the UK .
I always play 'spot the allotment' on the way to Liverpool Street in the morning - perhaps we should all carry a 'seed potato' or something.
Brilliant Post EJ.
PS
A group of five of us have just taken on an allotment in Peterborough. All novices on the vegetable growing front but by the time we get all the weeds and grass cleared off our plot we will hopefully have picked up lots of useful info from this fab site!

Yeah there is - pretty much opposite the river. But just to confuse things i am not there - i am renting some land of a farmer - so its just me - so i don't get the value of sharing tips with other allotment holders but i get that from here! :)
Hi folks,
Local parish council took an acre of a market gardener and turned it into 16 allotments. We were lucky enough to get 1 of them at the start and due to a few people not doing anything at all( I mean nothing !! ) We now have another. First plot sorted and grew some nice things this year. Second plot currently being dug into quarters and 1 being for fruit that we're planting atm and 2 quarters being for spuds in NY.
