first frost
« on: January 30, 2005, 18:24:21 »
Well at last we have had some proper frosts down here.  I have been trialing different areas of the garden trying to find a warm spot. Well I've found a place at last with its own micro-climate, the nasturtiums are still flowering and a few more delicates are still standing.

Now I am going to create a real mediteranian  garden with a big olive tree and bougainvillea, the canna and mirabilis should survive being left in the ground. but I think I will leave the cacti in pots.

The  south/west facing area has three white painted walls and I think if I spread gravel over the ground the heat should build up a treat in the summer. An hopefully get some rarer plants to flower.

Photos will be posted when the garden is up and running.

Oh sounds as if it's going to be beautiful Heritage!! Looking forward to the photographs. Maybe some 'before and after' would be nice.  :D
