So glad that Toby is the new Gardeners World Presenter!!!
« on: September 13, 2008, 00:04:20 »
The programme seemed much more improved ~~hopefully it will always be a 30 minute programme. Less time for all that gushing and squealing in the old shows. I loved the way that Toby was precise and to the point!

Yes, thumbs up from me too. It adds a new dimension to GW, guessing what A4A members will think about it each week!

The jury is still out with me :-\,but i think 4 presenters is to many for a 30 minute program.

No Toby is the wrong person for GW, They should have kept the same crew doing it,
joe, carol and alice, they are ok, didn't the BBC  have faith in them,

i never liked toby when he was doing gardening invaders and gardening sos, or the programmes like that >:(

i think the BBC should of asked if  monty wanted to come back as consultant and narrator,
then seeing if carol, joe and alice would do the work for him, their is loads of jobs that monty could do that is not hard work,

in time toby will get all his friend in on the show and carol, joe and alice will vanish, just like chris and rachael did when alan finished and monty started doing the show,

I don't think it would be a great loss if Joe went.

Its great to hear everyones opinion on the show. I wonder if there has been any bad feeling from the other presenters.

I just found out this week that Toby lives right below me, but still not exactly sure which of two houses it is. Might just ask my neighbour if I can have a peek over her fence to see if his garden is in tip top condition  ;D

I agree with Duke. Toby was clear and practical and held my attention. He reminded me slightly of the late, great Geoff Hamilton in the way he gave useful, practical tips and encouraged us to think ahead and garden economically. Much as I admire Monty, it may help that Toby has been professionally trained.

Just had a coffee break and watched. I was not expecting to be very positive about Toby since i haven't been too impressed by what I've seen so far but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the fact that he went to be part of what his co-presenters were about, discussing what they were doing with them and giving them a hand. I liked that he went early to include Alys in the first programme. I liked that he was asking her how they do things at Berryfields rather than storming in and doing it his way. And yes his advice was practical and although I didn't have exactly the same plants, for once there was nothing in the programme that was irrelevant to my needs.

Now I really liked Monty, was entertained by the brash Mr Titchmarsh although not by his co-presenters and thought Geoff Hamilton was just the bee's knees so maybe I'm just not discerning enough! :P

unimpressed by Toby over here. I think Carol earned first refusal. I read somewhere that they didn't even ask her. Disgraceful.

finally got round to watching it last night, i thought it was quite good, he seemed as though he wanted to get back to basics IE good practice foundation stuff. i liked his tip on saving cut lawn edges to patch scuffed areas of the lawn i do this all the time with seed sown from the batch i used to grow my lawn. i sow them in a seed trays during the summer to patch the lawn in the autumn months. I'm waiting to see how he will dispose all the pruned seedheads (i normally burn mine).

shame if they reduce the time to half an hour, i liked the hour long gardening on telly, but it should be full of action not talk ykwim.

I thinbk it's always half an hour through the autumn/winter, unless they have "specials" but these are usually in the summer.

yeah but Monty said at the beginning of the season that it was changing to a hour long format, but that might have just been his ideas and now that his gone it may be back to the half hour format. or i might have simply miss understood :-\ ho hum.
