Unless you're a fast runner, try eliminating the nest when it is cold out since they move slower in the cold. Wouldn't hurt to cover yourself up. I'll never forget when I hit a hornet's nest with the mower. They chased me and hit my legs 3 times before I got into the house.

If they are council allotments, maybe the council will do it for you?

In fairness to wasps - I am sorry you got stung - but they are considered a beneficial insect - if they are in the right place.  The eat millions of aphids and in fact are the gardeners friend - except when you get stung - I remember, years ago, when I had one stuck in my hair, God the racket I made I was screeching like a banshee! and yes the do hurt.  So big sympathy!

Bad luck getting stung. I have nests on my plot every year, sometimes in the shed, and they've never stung me yet. The only thing that ever stings is the odd bee, and that's only because I keep pulling their homes apart.
