Lady's bedstraw is generally a lax/sprawling plant (a bit like the habit of Chickweed) growing to about 6-10" but if it has something (eg grass) to grow against then it will grow higher, to about 18".  In the wild, it generally grows in dry grassey areas

Teresinha Roberts, one of our plot-holders grows this as a dye plant.  You can read more about it on her website - www.wildcolours.ik.com on the 'reds' page.  According to Teresinha, it attracts more than hawk moths!
