Little flies in compost
« on: October 15, 2005, 17:12:37 »
Started off with some little flies coming out of the compost that my spider plant was growing in. OH decided to put it in the green house (which I didn't discover for a while) and now they seem to be in lots of my other pots.

What can I do to get rid of them? Are they harming my plants?

Well, I got in trouble for this before...GG.. but I hoovered mine up! Still do! Think they're called fungus flies, and lay their eggs in the compost, the larvae eat the roots, and out they pop! Never actually lost a plant to them though, and feeling bit mean about it now.....sigh..anyway! Make sure compost is damp, then bring attachment close and suck!!! Definitley organic.... ;D ;D ;D and works for me!!
