Allotment planner
« on: August 18, 2005, 12:46:29 »
Anyone know a very simple, basic programme to plan out an allotment? Everything I've looked at is either ridiculously complicated or hopelessly inaccurate; I basically want a sheet of squared paper like you used to get in maths exercise books, only on a computer so I can plan things when I should be working :D
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Thank you, that would be great - I'm just getting from the 'two beds and lots of brambles' stage to the bit where you start forgetting what's where  :)

Redclanger, I'd love to have a look at how you've planned things - any chance of a gander? ;)

Ahem.

I have a rotation plan worked out using tables in word.  Still in their draft stage at the moment because when I took on the plot I was going to have three main beds but did not have enough room for potatoes and onions together.  So I am changing over to four main rotation beds and now have paths where their will be vegetables and vegetables where there will be paths. And still lots of couch, thistles, ground elder and bindweed.

I have started using the Calendar in MS Outlook as my diary.  I can e-mail you the database if that is alright with Jenny.

I used Word to plan the plot when I first took over. I followed the plan faithfully the first year then all went to pot.

I have added so many bits and bobs as well as taking on another half plot. It would take me a day to set out the design (if that's what you would call it) stage I am at at present time.
Major changes are going to take place over the winter months...here we go again

I do my planning in Word as well. When I first got the plot I drew an outline with squares on, calculated to be 1mx1m, and drew the lottie to scale. Grouped the squares, then added appropriately sized text boxes for each crop. Works really well and is dead simple.  The following year you just move around the boxes! For example:

This was back in January - so things moved a bit! These beds are all permie raised ones. Now about to start on the carpeted bit to give myself more space...
