But number one daughter was thrilled when she spotted this cucumber under the cloche at the allotment!

I defence of the EU it is the supermarkets who demanded straight cucumbers to save on packaging costs.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.  My wifey is gross!   There was I admiring your cucumber when she went "EWWWWwww"  :o "what is that? "...  A cucumber says I.   "No, says she - what is it on? someones fat belly?"

I shan't repeat the rest of the conversation leading to my explaining about work tops but with this level of madness my poor children have no chance of avoiding our genetic inheritance!  :-\

 ;D
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!

Apparently the Victorians used to think bent cucumbers were a sign of moral degeneracy. They used glass tubes to force them to grow straight.

I defence of the EU it is the supermarkets who demanded straight cucumbers to save on packaging costs.

As silly a ruling as it might at first seem, the implications for reducing packaging are massive, straight cucumbers are more efficient to pack, meaning less boxes need to go on a lorry, and therefore less fuel is used.
