Leaves going white...
« on: May 06, 2005, 15:47:28 »
Hi,
I wonder if you can help - I put some of my plants out in my cold frame to harden off. They were doing okay until a couple of days ago when the leaves started to go white around the edges. Are they getting too much sun do you think?
Or is there something else?
Thanks for any help...

Gill

Mostly cucumbers and tomatoes. They were fine indoors but as soon as I put them outside (some in the garden - some at the plot in the cold frame) they started to go white and papery.
I don't think it's a disease because they are different places. I think it has to do with the conditions (too cold, wet, sunny??)
Thanks for any help.

My tomatoes went pale when I left them out in the open overnight by mistake.  So I think your plants may have been frost damaged.  I've not chucked mine away as I'm seeing if they will recover.  They now still have white patches on them and look sick but they haven't died.

this has mostly happened to my supposedly hardy broccolli plants. brought them back indoors and gave them tlc.
they are still small but i think they are just about toi start growing again. i guess they must have gottan a cold shock - or sunburn! :)

yes I think you're right - I'll bring them in.
Trying to do things too quickly again - that's my problem!
Thanks

I got a touch of that with a few tomatoes which seems to have been from getting coldish water on the leaves.

Mine have started to green up again.  Glad I didn't chuck em.  It's only the true leaves that still look white now.
