well...at the risk of sounding pedantic i dont think they do-they are cocking their heads on one side to get a better view of  moving grass....
they could still do a good job for the un tho!

I was fascinated few days ago. Mr Blackbird suddenly started tugging away (I hadn't seen anything) then commenced the fight between blackbird and large worm. Blackbird won :)

It's such a pleasure to be able to grow my own food and help nature along the way as well with carefully planted flowers and being organic....apart from when they pull up my onion sets when I'm not looking. Wouldn't mind it if it was for food.

Kitty, don't know what to worry about most...the birds or you.  ;)
You have a nice site by the way, only some of the pics are missing.

I have netting over and around the plot that has my onions, yet I still find them out of place.  There is no way the birds can get in.  The onions either pop themselves out or maybe mice are playing bowls with them.   ;D

By the way, what are woggums?   :o

Pauline, I have some wire arches that came with the plot and thought that would help...but nope, the birds just went to the end and walked (hopped) under then to pull up the onions. Have blocked the end but I'm sure the battle continues.
Sory Tim for taking your post off on a tangent....but blackbirds are one of my favourites, have a fantastic range of song.
