The Mousetrap

Assuming that because I am British I would know an American has just asked me some questions about the mousetrap (apparently he is directing an amateur production). They were:
1) how do you (myself) pronounce Leamington (as in Spa I presume)? I was given the choice of Leamington or Leemington.
2) what was the form of national i.d. during and after WWII, which I interpreted to be ration books. Was I correct?
3) what is an/the ABC? That rendered me speechless. Anyone help me out?
I know some here lived through those times so this strikes me as my best resource for answers.

Well before my time.
Still waiting on an answer to your Yellow Bugle thing, John. But the people at Ness could not think of one. I spent a little time in the library there, but not enough really to go into anything in depth. Looks like a dead end, sorry.
Had a nice Christmas?

ABC was a Railway Timetable, like Bradshaw.
ID cards Green or yellow about 3inches by 1.5 inches.
Mother still has one somewhere.
