foxgloves or weeds ??
« on: March 17, 2005, 18:20:10 »
These are sprouting up all over my veggie patch. Can't make my mind up whether they are foxgloves or not, as if so I'll transplant them.

Gardening on a wing and a prayer!!

They very much look like foxgloves!  :o

I have dug mine up as they looked absolutely horrid, with the bottom leaves gone all black!  I was not sure what to do with them so decided, with my other half, that the best place for them was the bin!

 ???

Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.

Yes they look like Foxgloves to me too. I have just transplanted about two dozen good sized specimens to the edge of the garden where they are out of the way but will look good and provide food for bumble bees etc. It's only a weed if it's in the wrong place.

mullein, verbascum?    I agree, I think they're foxgloves. I've got some lovely ones in my garden but I didn't put them there - they just arrived  :)

I'll go for foxgloves.

Save them & spread  the seed all over!

Black leaves? Pick them off!

Oh Marianne I wouldn't chuck em I really like them.  I don't plant them they keep appearing - must be some birds dropping them off.  I got a fantastic white one last year.

If you don't want them in the garden go and plant them somewhere else - on the lotty for example.  You could always pot them up (after taking black bits off) and then donate them to a local group or car booter

LOVE foxgloves.  They grow wild on our common all through Danbury and really are an absolute picture!  They have been on the common copicing like mad so I am expecting alsorts of great flowers in a month or 2's time.

Oh Wardy it's too late now - have already chucked them.  Feel very guilty as they had produced a large quantity of green shoots, all ready to show off... :'(

Never mind, learnt my lesson for the future!

Thanks everyone !  Great, I'll transplant them.  No idea how they got there, as haven't grown any for quite a few years.
