Great photo spireite.  I've seen lots of squirrels and i don't think I've ever seen a black on.  Lovely.

How lovely
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Wikipedia says they're quite common around where you live Spirerite - " the melanistic population in the UK continues to grow, and around the towns of Letchworth, Stevenage and Hitchin, as well as nearby villages such as Shillington and Meppershall in England, black squirrels are now as abundant as grey individuals."

We moved into this area in Sept...and it took me until May to catch one on camera...The grey ones do seem to chase them away though despite the black squirrel's reputation as being more fierce/territorial than the grey!!!
I still find them a novelty :)

We have quite a few too. Just a grey variant which should be culled.
