Odd looking Parador courgette
« on: August 18, 2009, 12:38:39 »
I've 4 plants - Parador is an F1 Hybrid, if that would influence diagnosis? Three plants produce perfect golden courgettes; the fourth... :-\ The skin is pitted with green and the fruits are incredibly knobbly. The flesh is pale green. Taste is much, much better than appearance ;D

Any ideas why this has happened?

Maybe a stray seed of something else? Or an odd plant which was pollinated by something else?

That's my bet, Robert.

Your courgette sounds like Rugosa Friulana - rather ugly but tastes good.

I'm growimg them this year. seeds from a seed swap; the flesh is greener and they taste really good, so will be a cert. for next year. Do't let them grow too big though or the bulbous end just fills up with seeds and you get very little flesh!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Does anyone have one or two Rugosa Friulana seeds to spare? The yellow one I'm growing this year - Jemmer - is very disappointing. I only grow three courgette plants as I like the variation of flavour and colour. Parthenon is a huge cropper - as is Cavilli, so Rugosa sounds like a good bet for the yellow one next year.

Thanks

Tricia

Tricia, if it's viable, I'll save seeds from the next that grows for you. But I don't know if my surprise RF is a F1 hybrid :-\

Lishka - have just googled and as far as I can see RF is not an F.1 hybrid, so the seeds should come true - unless they cross-pollinate with your Parador!!. Be worth a try though unless someone else has a seed to spare.

Thanks

Tricia
