I bet its blight
« on: August 20, 2007, 12:35:51 »
Greenhouse full of toms 4 ailsa craig 2 marmande 4 tigerella and 2 golden sunrise, noticed like sootie deposits on fruit and leaves of 1 ailsa craig. Just got back and its spread to a couple more it seems to effect the higher leaves more, it feels kind of sticky. Does it sound like blight?

Doesn't sound like blight ...  More of a pest kind ofthing, rather than a fungus, I think

the sticky ness is probably honeydew from the aphids you then get a sooty fungs developing on the mess...

Yes Jim i had whitefly maybe a week ago but not bad enough to warrant spraying. I'll have a closer inspection after work, it sounds better then i thought.

Yes your right the underside of the leaves are covered in whitefly. Some plants are worse then others what should i do remove the worst leaves? I've a recipe for a rhubarb spray would that work?

Just returned from holiday. Sounds interesting do you use them yourself? how do you stop the little beasties leaving the greenhouse? Had a friend and allotment neighbour tending the greenhouse. Neighbour been spraying with bug zapper while i've been away so its kept them at bay. I've been up today and took the worst affected leaves off and the fruits are fine, i picked half a carrier bag full today, next stop recipe section. Thanks for info Jim.
