Topic: Help, pea pod attack

Found lots of these laying at the bottom of my row of peas.  It can't be birds because their netted.  Also, something is doodling in the leaves, tiny little black things.  Any ideas?

Looks to me like slug damage.  Often happens to pods which are too near the ground.

Looks like slugs or snails to me, too. (And snails can climb!)

Thanks guys, but I don't think its slugs or snails, I use pellets and have only had a couple of dead ones. 
The strange thing is the pods seem to be snipped off on the stem and nibbled on the ground, none of the pods still on the stems have been touched.

Looked up leaf miner Georgie and I think your right, says I have to remove the infected leaves and burn them.  No leaves, no pods, not a lot left really, don't want to give up yet though got loads of flowers.

Son had a pet rat, should have recognised the teeth marks.
Up the garden centre tomorrow, they sell humane mice traps (funny that way)

cazy, be sure its not a rat that's doing the damage.  We have seen a rat in our garden for about a week now.  Our council does a free vermin/pest control, and they weill be coming to 'see to it' in the next few days.

When OH rang the council, the person he spoke to said that they are having a lot of trouble with rats at the moment.  Apparently the heavy rain we have been having of late is filling the sewers, and driving the rats above ground.

We have mice in the garden, which we trap inhumanely, but rats are a different matter altogether!!

It's on the lottie, not in my garden thank goodness.  Will have a word with other plot holders and see if they have any problems, and what to do if it is a rat.

Sorry but you are wrong there. There are only two species of rat in the UK. Rattus rattus the black rat. And Rattus norvigicus the brown or sewer rat. All pet rats are descended from the brown rat.

davyw1, I would add another two varieties of 'rat' to your list - the american grey tree, and the flying (pidgeon).
