Title: PROGRESS REPORT for Jeannine and Jayb's Canadian/UK swap parcel.
Post by: Jeannine on June 16, 2010, 00:02:28
Well after much ado,ash cloud, missing stuff, holidays  etc the parcel is finally moving around.

Thanks to JayB who baled me out just as I sent a second parcel, it is much more exciting now as I don't knowexactly  what is in it,thanks to Star who sent it back to JayB to pick up the second part.

The original list has changed a little due to a couple of drop outs and the order is changing due to holidays, so I am publishing a new list of players but not in the right order, I will hold back the addresses due to holiday arrangements and send them to the last person who receives when they are ready to post on.

Please, please send it recorded, it is only a few pennies more and we do not want this one to get lost.

There is a bag  inside if you want to send something specific to someone on the list. PLEASE do not take from that bag unless  one of the packets inside have your name on it, but please check.

E mail me if you want to know more specifics of any type.

Good Luck have fun.

Parcel has so far been to JayB, posted on and....

Currently with Star.

PLEASE POST WHEN YOU RECEIVE AND AGAIN WHEN YOU SEND ON.

Other punters in no particular order are

Markfield Rover
DebP
Squash 64
Nilly71
Tinshed
Mushy Pea
mpdjulie
Goodlife
Ninnyscrops
Flowersofshona
Suzanne
Robert Benchley
Granny Janny
Cambourne7
Ruud.

Please let me know about any holiday plans so I can keep it moving.I will not send the parcel on to folks who are not posting  regularly at the time, although I am not anticipating this with the list I have.

So go for it folks.. all jokes etc welcomed, after all the fuss and to do, lets make it a fun one.

XX Jeannine

It's just arrived; there's a mass of seeds there, but I haven't had a chance to look through it properly. Just a very quick flip through, but there are a couple of peas that look interesting, loads of beans, squashes and toms, hot peppers, and miscellaneous stuff. Effectively it's two parcels in one. Thanks to everyone for getting it here!

Jeannine’s parcel is stunning and as such I thought it deserved to be defined, so I wrapped it separately in a bag.  I’m so glad the parcel on the move, I know I had a lovely time looking through.

Not sure if anyone is interested and I don’t think it gives away too many surprises but;

I succumbed first to some cucumbers, Red Hmong and Poona Keera, which have in this short space of time germinated. I’m going to keep my fingers firmly crossed I don’t mess them up. Germination is great at 100%.

A lovely selection of squash/ pumpkins.  With a name like Baby Boo who could resist, I also had a couple of Guatemalan Blue, Table Queen,  Magda F1, Butter Bush and Batman!

Super beans too and I took a few each of Golden Buddha,  which look lovely as do Snow Cap. Also as recommended by Jeannine, Fortex.  What else? A small portion of Dwarf Grey Sugar peas, red fleshed Chinese radish, a few musk melon to try and Colorado Blue spruce tree.

Probably a few other things that don’t spring to mind at the moment, which all sounds a lot but only a couple or few seeds of each and plenty to go around. Plus lots of replacements in exchange.

Super   :)

..bloody h...l...that really sounds great... ;D Now I'm getting these awful tummy twinches...I never suffer with anything nice,,like feeling butterflies... ::)..pain...torture... ::)
Just like before Christmas when I was kid...I had to have good old feel of the packets to quess what was in them...and there wasn't no hiding from me.. ;D In the end mum had to start to take them all to neighbour for storage ::)
So now we don't do presies in our house...if I know there is one somewhere... can't cope with it..even if it's not for me.. ::)
But I do try....like now...I have taken interest to football to take my mind off from this... ::) ;D

Oh good Robert, have fun. I had a laugh putting in the tree seeds, I fancied you could all grow your own Christmas tree from Canada, I have another packet if you run short.

Thank you Star for being so prompt.

I will send the next nameand addy  to Robert.

I think it is interesting to see what folks choose, especially when they have already germinated.

There is some Stevia in here, the sugar plant, the seeds are almost invisible but there are quite a lot in there.

Have fun...Goodlife you should have a lay down!! Would you like me to be sure you are last to keep the excitement going for longer ::)

Well it is on its way again............ to a talented lady, who together with Grandad, is a wonderful ambassador for allotments and veg.

And well done, Jeannine  - Leigh on Sea is known for all the cockle sheds down in the old part of  town :D

O. M. G. what a shock I had this evening.  A neighbour brought round a parcel which he had taken in for me while I was at the allotments this morning.  The clue about the next person had totally gone over my head - so I really had no idea it was my turn next.

What can I say, apart from I am so glad it's the weekend because there is no way I can look at all the hundreds of packets of seeds in one evening.

Thank you so much Jeannine, Jayb and all who have taken part before me.  Such a massive selection of things, I don't know where to start........

You now I think I like it better when no-one knows who is getting next,oh and by the way neither do I, names are pulled out of a bag as I need to send them off.

I will go and find the next one.

I spent a couple of hours looking through the seeds and I've had the following:-
Chillies - rocoto, variegata, habanero paper lantern, purple tiger, chocolate habanero,
Beans - Fortex
Tomato - Piccolo
Summer squash - Kabak Sakiz, Magda

I've added:-
Lettuce - Optima, I'm growing these this year and they are lovely.
Mustard - Red Giant
Tomato - Millefleur (see my post about incredible flowers on tomatoes)
Sweet Pepper - Palermo
Sweet Mini Red pepper - grew these last year for first time and again this year, lots of small peppers on small plants.
Carrot - Giant Red
Chilli - saved from one of my Bangladeshi chillies.  Tall plant, purple flowers and hot very dark, almost black chillies.
Summer Savory

and I've added some seeds of Aristolochia (Dutchmans Pipe) This was collected from some spectacular flowers growing on a wall in Sicily.  I haven't sown any yet so no idea if they will germinate.

Are you excited now?  ;)

Istanbul Kabak Sakiz  courgette going to give that a go now,one chili  seed Congo Black ,blue curled kale and the pea named after a character from Sex in the City also a ulluco tuber, some other lovely things too but if I say and goodlife reads the list we may have to fetch her down from the ceiling!!!!!!
I hope I have added somethings of interest,I did include some Blaby Special toms seed - if anyone  who was before me wants any or if they run out please PM me.
Thanks again such a lovely exercise all round I hope!
Oh and then the tomatoes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first list published at the beginning  before I had to replace the parcel was in order but that was changed due to dropouts and replacements, also I am working round summer holidays so the new list stated at the beginning of this post reads"in no particular order"

However I am not confirming that this parcel is going to anyone in particular, after all  it is supposed to be a surprise !!

Try starting them individually in pots about 1 1/2'' deep somewhere nice and warm, keep them moist at all times and pot on when needed. They make quit a clump, but if you have them in pots you can keep them in a container to water and it will be easy to move them later on to protect from frost and hopefully have a good harvest  :)

Yes I'd have a go with summer squashy types  ;D

Old Gardeners never die, they just  go to seed....

Real Gardeners are perennial they spring into life again every Spring.....

To be a true lottie gardener you must.............

have greenthumbs and dirty fingernails
have a sense of humour and be optimistic
dress funny and wear  wellies
be able to talk about manure in any situation
have an aptitude for hiding seeds
share
go into raptures at the first potato
spend Christmas reading seed catalogues
appear completely off the wall to all your"other"friends
have very long suffering partners
be expert at skip dipping

come on folks I have made a start.....

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumkin by it's diameter?

Postie has arrived and parcel is in my hands!

Now I am going to "slope off" for a bit. Will update you all later on tonight - once I have surfaced again.

Some jokes for Jeannine before i go.

Why do potatoes make good detectives?
Because they keep their eyes peeled!

Don't groan, I have a small childs sense of humour - simple things make me laugh!

Why do melons have fancy weddings?
Because they cantaloupe.

And a bit of culture - shakespeare in the garden.

Now for the post parcel opening analysis! I have seen them do this on the telly after a footie match - seed swap parcel opening, sorting, taking out and putting back in is all worthy of an in depth report. Also you asked for running commentary - and I can be a bit literal!

The delivery
Firstly wasn't expecting th parcel to get here so quickly, but I had spotted the postie coming up the drive with a package. When he thinks its a seed swap he does this rather nervously - experience has made him wary. Usually he hopes just to signal me, leave it on the doorstep and make good his get away. But Goodlife you outfoxed him - it had to be signed for. I fumbled with the keys for a bit and on third attempt managed to get the door open, squealed and took the parcel and closed the door. He knocked again and made me sign the pad thingy.......and then made a hasty retreat!
I now had the parcel.  ;D

The opening
Unfortunately my OH heard the commotion and duly reminded me of everything I had to do today...........all chores. Plus needed to go over to my Mums and drop some stuff off. So had an agonising 3 hours before I could get to open the parcel. It was worse than being 4 on Christmas Eve.

Anyway when I finally had some time to myself, I poured myself a glass on the fizzy wine from M&S dine in for £10. Decided this was dangerous in case I split it so left it in the kitchen whilst I went into the conservatory.

I took off the brown wrapping.

THERE ARE TWO PARCELS!! Both HUGE  ;D ;D

Went in the kitchen sipped wine to steady myself. (I must add this was well past the sun being over the yard arm, just in case anyone thinks I am a bit free with the vino).

Went back in for the sorting.

The collection - this is where it gets bit serious!

Gobsmackingly brilliant. I have taken pinches of all sorts. Some beans; some squashes; love the idea of grow your own Christmas Tree so have taken some of these; some ofthe Dutchmans pipe from Sicily; some of the own saved cowslips; and some Giant Red carrots.

I look forward to growing some Tiger Nuts - but would love to know how. Do they grow outaside - do I need to put them in a greenhouse?

Also I have taken some of the Blaby Special Toms.

I have put back in some unusual varieties which I hope you will all like, including a few I bought from Baker Creek this Spring

Thank you Jeannine and JayB for doing this - absolutely fantastic!

Oh good another happy camper.. I do hope you buy your postie a Chrissie pressie.

I don't think ours thinks we are all there. The parcel guy has frequently delivered large parcels clearly marked from seed companies, we had one that the box was damaged so we had to open it.. contents were fine but he left thinking we were quite nuts,2 old wrinklies in a top floor apartment with a Mantis . Then  he brought a box, very heavy, from a greenhouse supply company, said it right on the label, then came the 3 tier light fitting with a picture on the box, actually boxes would be more correct it came in 5. Then seed catalogues from all over the world, followed by packages with return labels from seed potato companies and seed companies generally. One box was very  very big but quite  lightweight, I signed for it and he said,I have to ask and pointed to the box.. I thought he was going to faint when I told  him it had 1100 plant pots in ,  mind you I could have said that 1000 were jiffy discs  but why spoil his day.The heated propagator took up  a lot of space!!  I can't wait to see his face the day he delivers the Zoo Poo. Bless him

So have fun my dear , I will send you the next addy shortly.

so glad i have this for the weekend there is so much here honestly there's about 1 inch of plastic bags with just tomato seeds and i am only 1/2 way though the package.

I have laid 1/2 the packets rall out into groups on the table with my poor collection of seeds on a chair beside me and my feet in a bucket of water having a blissful soak.

Pauls got harriet in the front room and there chilled out on the sofa with the AC on :) which just makes it to me :)

When i was out today met a friend of mine her mum grows about 200 chilli plants to make chilli chutney which she sells commercially and shes going to try and pop over tomorrow with some seeds to add to our collection so fingers crossed :) Also picked up a butternut squash plant for 50p to replace the one that the birds killed :) all in all a good plant day

XX Jeannine

Jeannine, what a great idea will organize that in the morning :) I am down to my last 30 or so packets honestly i am almost out of plastic bags and this parcel has actually got heavier !! And yes i have taken you tomato challenge :)

(just put another order into http://www.captainbags.com/)

One of two of the items i have take the packet as there is only 2 or 3 seeds left so next growing season i will be after some seed saving tips !!

thrilled i found some summer savory as my seed failed to germinate so i have popped that straight into a peat pot :) And whilst i hate cucumber i have taken a few seeds as i am told babies love this as a finger food so i though i would grow some from Harriet :)

Working though the last few packets with a can of pepsi max to keep me awake and a bar of cote'd Or chocolate as a treat and the baby monitor in case Harriet wakes up.  Bottles made and washing maching and dishwasher are both on and for the first night in weeks i dont have to go out to water :)

Question for whomever popped in the oca it looks like its sprouting so is the best thing to pop it into pots now and then store them somewhere cool and dark from November for next growing season (reading up was suppose to have planted in march) ??

Question for whomever popped in the tiger nuts again these were suppose to have been sown spring so are they ok in plastic bags till then or do i need to pop them into soil to keep them from rotting?

Amongst other things I have added some walking stick cabbage seeds and i have the instructions for making a walking stick from the plant so if anyone would like the instuctions let me know and i will scan them in :)

Cambourne tricksy clue, still trying to work it out  ;D But wonder if it is Nilly?

Oca and Tiger nuts both very late but I thought it worth a chance, so go for it. T. nuts may keep until next year, oca plant. Both are quite quick to get started, oca is daylight sensitive so planting early is not necessarily  an advantage. T.nuts produce in the autumn and if you can give a bit of protection from frost may do well, keep them well watered though.

Someone told me once that chocolate factories would let staff eat as many chocolates as they wanted and after a short while no one touched any. Perhaps it would be the same in a seed packers, though I can't see I'd ever get tired of seeds!

I have come downstairs for a breather ::).
Speachless when I opened it ;). Yeh right. I screamed as OH walked through the door at 10am. Youngest rang so was slightly delayed. He thought I had hurt myself.
Well I am having to do this in stages, back & neck problems. The windowsill is covered in peas & beans from 1 bag, OHs side of the bed  is covered with seeds from the other bag that I want, no, need. Down the middle are things I need to look up. When I've done that I will bag up & then empty the other bag out to search through the finer items & then put my seeds in.
It will HAVE to be done by 10pm but not sure it is possible.

I do hope OH isn't very hungry today :).

Well, lost for words.  If I had just got an allotment then this swap would have been heaven sent.  There is nothing that you would have to go out and buy.  Enough for at least 3 whole plots I would say, no actually more.  I am a new tomato and squash enthusiast so I was spoilt for choice.  I hope I haven't had anyone's millefleur tomato seeds as they were in the "for everyone" bag, but I only took one of the seeds that were left, so fingers crossed it germinates.  Otherwise I shall be purchasing some from Real Seeds next year.  I had some mixed lettuce leaves from Jeannine and heinz, jersey devil, piccolo and la roma tomato seeds, only a couple of each.  I went overboard with tomatoes this year and have 54 plants so I don't want a repeat performance next year.  I had a seed each of seven different squash.  Some boothbys blond and white wonder cucumber.  Some grape seeds and goji berries seeds.
All in all this was a very impressive parcel and many thanks to Jeannine for your generosity and Jayb as well.
I was going to include £5 for the last person to include in the cost of posting back to Jeannine but I boxed and wrapped up the seeds before I realised, so I am going to post it separately, not special delivery but just recorded, to the next person to have the parcel for them to include in the parcel when they post it.

Well done
I have a problem, been to the post office and the only service that can give for the weight - 2.8kg - and the higher compensation level and tracking is special delivery for £21.65.  On the other hand I can use Hermes costing £9.16 with £250 compensation but collection from me would be the soonest on Friday and delivery would be 3-5 days and you can track it.  Not sure what to do but I need to do it soon.  Any suggestions????

Right, I have exhausted myself trying to find a courier that will take seeds - hardly any as they are on the prohibited lists.  I have no choice but to go for 1st class signed for recorded delivery.  It only gives £41 compensation but it shouldn't get lost, should it?  My problem is that the special delivery cost jumps from £8.65 to £21.65 for parcels over 2kg.  When grannyjanny posted it to me it must have weighed no more that 2kg but now I've added to it, it weighs 2.8kg.
Anyway my husband is going to post it this afternoon, so everyone cross your fingers and toes and let's hope it gets there.

I sent it by 1st class recorded also, I think others have too. If it is getting to big for the post perhaps it makes more sense to use a courier although it may be a bit slower. Cambourne's listed several on page 12.
Glad it is on its way and I'm sure Jeannine will be along later  :)

:( I thought it was me as there was a delivery that could not be delivered yesterday because of not enough postage paid. It was only 10p out but an extra £1 added for a fee.
Hope I'm not expected to pay for junk mail :-\

Getting very excited about this parcel ;D

I sent it first class recorded as well. If it's getting that expensive wouldn't it be better to split it into two parcels?

I priced that up as well.  For under 1kg SD postage was £6.10 and for the other 1.8kg it was £8.65.  So doesn't work out cheaper I'm afraid.

Why go for Special Delivery rather than Recorded?
Title: Re: PROGRESS REPORT for Jeannine and Jayb's Canadian/UK swap parcel.
Post by: Jeannine on July 22, 2010, 23:49:57
Mmm,sorry I am a bit behind here . I don't think it needs to go special delivery, just recorded.there is no hurry it was only to keep a check on it not getting lost, actually I wasn't aware that it was going special delivery.

Realistically is it worth it.

Gosh I hope folks are getting plenty out of it.

Are there lots of commercail packets in there. I tend to put seeds in poly zippies as they weigh a lot.

The roiginal cost from Canada was $64, but that was because Joh chose to send it express as the first one got lost, without that it would have been $22 less but of course going airmail would boost the price anyway.

Is there anyway the weight can be cut down, eg is it in a box, can it be put in a postal poly sack.

Is it growing.. I think originally we thought it would get smaller.

If anyone is concerned about the cost and wants out please let me know.

Realistically, is there anything in there that weighs heavy that is very ordinary that could be taken out, like Scarlett Emp beans..rare beans are different but if it has lots of everday stuff it might be worth pulling some stuff out, when it started it was filled with quite different stuff??

Anyone else got any ideas, it is amazing and rather special but logically if it is getting too expensive to post on we should address that.

For my part I wouldn't worry about the insurance aspect of it.

There have been parcels that vanished sadly 2 of the "vanished"parcels went with the same person.  Again with another 2 parcels that I had nothing to do with vanished with newbies who also vanished at the same time, but I have not had any scary feelings about anyone that is on this one so I am 100% certain that is not an issue.

I will give it some thought, I feel a bit responsible and will reimburse anyone who has had to pay too much to send to insure high amount, deliver it fast etc that was not strictly needed, I  am sorry but I just simply didn'r realise that this was happening.

If it is of help to anyone this is from the Royal Mail site and is for 1st class packages

Weight range    First Class prices
0-100g    £1.39
101-250g    £1.72
251-500g    £2.24
501-750g    £2.75
751-1000g    £3.35
1001-1250g    £4.50
 1251-1500g   £5.20
 1501-1750g   £5.90
 1751-2000g   £6.60
 2001-4000g   £8.22
Each additional 2kg or part thereof     £2.80

Recorded delivery is 74p on top again.
As far as I remember the parcel started off at just under 2 kilos and is now around 2.8 kilos (thank you julie)so its super to think it has been growing all that time.
The parcel would now cost £8.22 + .74 = £8.96 to post, by Royal Mail. I can't see it going over this amount.

If anyone is thinking off using a courier it may be worth checking if seeds are restricted in the UK or if this is for overseas/ customs concerns and delays.

Robert, apparently Ulluco can last through to next season and has the potential to grow from a very dried up tuber (as does oca), though I've not tried this.
I think it may have been a bit of a long shot to include them but nothing ventured. Hopefully I'll have some spare later on if anyone fancies another go with them next year  :) cos I think they are lovely, despite producing such a small crop!

Well, this morning I was woken by screams of agony :o I rushed outside to see what the problem was.

It was a heartbreaking sight. There was my postie doubled up and screaming that he thought he had developed a hernia. It was plain to see what the culprit was. In his hands was a huge parcel addressed to me. His fingers were going white from trying not to drop it with all the pain he was in.

I knew I had been put on the list for Jeannine's seed parcel, so I instantly guessed what was in the box. I may be squeamish, but I decided to throw caution to the wind, rush up to him and grab the parcel and run!!!!!

Well, I have been busy sorting through all the wonderful things in there. Even christmas tree seeds. I am in heaven.

Sooo, a big thank you for including me ;D I think I will need another few sorts through over Sunday, as it is sooo much fun. I'll get it on its way then....providing I can get hold of a forklift truck ;)

Oh, and a quick 'groaner' postie joke.......

Hey hey,, so it lands in Wales, did the postie report you for molestation per chance?

Please don't fill it with leeks  or minature pumpkin seeds..

Mind you I could use a few bird scarers on my plot so if you have any Welsh scarecrow seeds tucked in your stash I could use a few.

Enjoy and have fun.

I will send you the next name.

Jeannine,

the parcel is ready and awaiting orders  ;D

I went to the post office to check the proper procedure for posting scarecrow seeds. The lady at the counter seemed quite disturbed by the enquiry and had to contact DEFRA for a definitive answer.

Anyway, they said that it would be unacceptable to pop the seeds in the swap box, due to the extremely high volatillity of the seed.

Apparently, when they have been sent through the post, occasionally, they have got wet due to the vast amount of inclement weather we get in wales. This has led to premature germination of the seed. Some postmen have suffered serious injury from the shrapnel thrown around during the excessively violent germination process.

So, I have been advised to sent them with a specialised carrier, who are used to dealing with such unstable packages. It wasnt cheap, but they guarantee that the seed will be with you before the end of the year in an ungerminated state.

They will ring you before they deliver, so they can be sure you will be in to receive the package, preventing it being left out in the rain.

I hope it arrives soon.

Thank you Caroline.. I might pop this info on a new thread so I can use it as a growing guide and let you know how it goes..Are you planning on planting them this year..they sound a bit scary..I wonder if they need special entry papers to emigrate.

I shall  look forward to getting them ..I think

Main parcel is on the move again..fortunatley thanks to Carolines common sense in no danger

carolinej,
you  a r e  a tease!

Doorbell rang, postman came with the biggest 'rattling' parcel ever!  Just as well he delivers from a van!  And it was superbly packed too!  Could have survived a rainstorm without any danger from exploding scarecrow seeds!

Thank you so much Jeannine, Jayb and everybody.  I may be some time ...... ;) :)

Enjoy Galina, take yout time.. yours is the last stop before Europe. PLEASE let me know if you need me to Paypal a few pounds over to got towards postage.

I will PM the next addy.

Oh I am getting excited myself now.

I will tell now the plans I have for it.

It is going to Ruud in Holland, he knows, and then back to Jayb so she can share anything as it was a dual parcel, then  back here if suiyably disguised as  something else.. Jayb is very good at that bless her heart.

Then I hope to find something  special for me just like you all did. After I take out what I shall use myself
the plan then is to sow as many UK varieties of veggies and flowers in the spring, pot on  and offer them to the Canadain gardeners  as freebies in our lottie who wouldn't have access to them easily, with the hope that they will save seeds and keep them going .

This is something that is done on our lotties each year, but this year thanks to you they will be offered something a little different . Hopefully the greenhouse at this end I have been given use of will continue on.

A lot of the plants will be used for growing  the free veggies for the local  food bank and a  soup kitchen in downtown Vancouver where sadly there are still street people. We have a large area in our lottie gardens maintained by everyone to grow  for these  two great causes. I may also grow some for the smaller soup kitchen at my local church if I can get another patch to do it.

I hope you agree  it is a good cause.

I am very excited to see what is coming back..

Thank you all.

And as promised I do have another parcel which will be going to the newer members fof  A4A but it is much smaller and more basic, the balance of that will go to a UK charity garden.

Thank you so much Jeannine!  Yes it will take another day or two.  Last night I googled squash 'Istanbul Kahak Sakiz', found a Turkish Wikipage with photo and Google translator made sense of it all!  Great fun!

I have been looking into couriers to the Netherlands and it is not prohibitively expensive for a tracked 3 day service, but thank you very much for your offer.  There are dried goji berries left and two very sorry looking and half squashed ocas, both are prohibited live plant material.  I will take the ocas out and may add a 'Joig bean' label, you know the lovely red coloured ones ;)  Or leave them out, or send them directly to Jayb, what would you suggest?  Perhaps pm me?  If you would like oca or gojis, Ruud and Jeannine, I'd be happy to send you some later this year when I dig my oca up.  I just don't want to endanger safe passage of the fabulous seed parcel.  Incidentally, it came in a box for trail walking boots, just to give you an idea of its size  :)

Thank you for sharing your plans for the seeds going back to you .  If you have any specific requests Jeannine, please pm me.  I could nip out to the garden centre if there is anything specific that is not already in the box.   A great project.  Passing on the fun and benefit to many.  Let's hope for continued safe travels of the parcel contents.  Thank you again.

Hi Galina thank you for the info, perhaps PM Jayb re the plants and see what she wants to do.It is good news re the postage. I am not comfortable with you popping off to bthe garden centre but if you have a cheapie Lidl or find some on a super sale I will leave that up to you. I am trying to encourage PSB, and parsnips, brussel sprouts maybe but please don't go to any expense. I get very little choice on these here. If you get any specifically for the project I think there is a bag in there for such as that.Of course anything that is heirloom or heritage goes down well if it is from the UK but I feel there will be loads in there already..Oh there is one thing,,for me..did you ever get that winter veggie we were talkng about a few weeks sgo, it seemed you had more choice then me..would you believe it I have forgotten it;s name..mind it id 6am and I haven;t been to bed yet, the one that has Vit as a variety..I ended up with none here, the rosette very small one..I better go to bed I think, please don;t go to anty expense.

And the amazing parcel is on the move again to Ruud in The Netherlands.

This has been the best seed swap ever.  Absolutely amazing.  It was a lot of fun and the best is yet to come.  Growing lovely produce and flowers from these amazing seeds and thinking of Jeannine and Jayb and all the other seed donors in the group.

Ruud,  have fun when the parcel arrives.   :)

Best wishes to all

I hope you found something good for yourself.  Something you will enjoy to grow.

Sorry everyone, Jeannine's parcel was with me a little longer than anticipated, but it is now well on its way home. Enormous finger crossing going on my end  ;D

Yes I had a super time looking through, amazing to see how the content has changed. Some things remained of the original seeds though reduced in number, soooo many delicious and exciting things added. I won't say too much at the moment as I wouldn't want to spoil the suprise for Jeannine.

I've found peoples generosity and thoughtfulness in sharing uplifting, it has been a pleasure to be part of  :)

Oh mygoodness how terrible of me..I never posted about it's arrival home. I am sorry, I did e mail jay B and thought I had posted but obviously I did not.. so here goes.

First I have to say..wow..I did not expect so much stuff to come back. My plan was to donate much of it to folks on our lottie so they get a taste of the Uk and Europe but so many exciting things I feel like hoarding the lot and not sharing.. not.. I will do both.

First off, the peas, man of you were listening when I mentioned I was  getting very interested in types of peas, something I had not done in the past. Now I have such a fab choice it is hard to know where to start, and if I am right I believe there are no real cross pollination probs with them so I am hoping to grow the lot!! My sincere thanks to you all.

Lettuce is another one I have been getting very curious  about and now I have lots of choice..and so many I had no idea.

Beans, one of my great loves..well my collection increased very much.. Oh and talking of beans, I got a super Canadaian catologue just yesterday with a bean section to die for.. Heritage Seed.. a really great choice with lots of history of beans too so I am very tempted with it.Special thanks for my fave Safaris which are not available here.

Squash, well guys you did it, I got several that I didn't have which surprised me very much.

Tomatoes, yep you guessed it, my collection has increased again by quite a number, this is definately one veggie that will be grown to share as transplants with the community..and guess what I was asked specificallyto grow Money Maker, can you believe it.. so well done to the sender of those seeds, I actually did not have any.

Special thanks to the persons who sent parsnips and leeks, very little choice here so I am verygrateful for those.

I have to say I cried when I read the journal that was enclosed, it was very special and will go on show with spare seeds and transplants when I give them out in the Spring at our communty garden meeting..we have several folks who are itching to see what the parcel brought there so I think they will enjoy the journal too.

So my apologies for being so remiss in getting this posted, I really did slip up there and have no excuse.

Thank you so much to all you wonderful foks who took part, I hope it makes a good ending to know that a great many of the seeds that you sent will be shared here in Cnada with other gardeners so many of the seeds, most actually, will be carried on across the pond. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy!

There will be another parcel coming as I promised  for which I don't need anything back, it will be for the folks who could not take part in this one including the newbies.. I will post when ready to do that.

It is Christmas Eve, so a very fitting time to say thank you and to wish you all a super special growing season  for the new year,,here in Canada there will be a lot of excited growers thaks to you all , and you know..it doesn't get any better than that.

God Bless you all.

XX Jeannine
