Title: I did bring the letter home....
Post by: emmy1978 on January 02, 2010, 20:18:40
that said we are having a dressing up day on our first day back at school-I want to be Lisa Simpson.....graaaaah....KIDS!  ::)
So then, 24 hours to make the costume. One red tube dress made from cotton bought today at the market, one pair red shoes bought in Monsoon sale for £4.25( ;D) and yellow body paint and yellow spiky hair made from cardboard painted yellow and sellotaped to a hairband.
Phew.   :P

I went as the Wicked Witch on one of our Book Week fancy dress days.  The green face paint was the very devil to get off, but the costume wasn't as uncomfortable as the year I went as Tattybogle the scarecrow with a hazel branch through both sleeves and across the back of my neck.........

It seems a bit much to have a dressing up day the first day back after Christmas!Good luck with making the costume- must say I was glad when mine got beyond that age, although my son (23) did go to a Christmas party dressed as an elf recently- and made a much better job of the costume than I ever did when he was little!

Thanks, I am pleased with it.  :) I love making stuff for the girls. I wanted to be a theatre costume designer when I was younger but didn't go to college as had to leave home and go to work instead! :(

Well done Emmy. I know where to come for advice when little one starts auditioning ;D ;D ;D. Trouble is it has to have a scary person in it. Strange child. Her daddy told her that Mary Poppins was on, first question was is there a scary lady, no. Well I'm not watching that. 101 dalmatians was tolerated because there was a scary lady at the end. Her cousin of the same age gets upset if anyone is naughty on the TV.

;D ;D ;D Grannyjanny! Mine like a bit of danger too-Disney in particular can be rather saccharine even for children! Is that why she loves Wizard of Oz because of the wicked witch?  ;D

Most definately. She even dreams about Dorothy & tells her mummy about them. Her favourite is when her & Dorothy are talking & playing in her bedroom. She asks mummy for stories out of her head & tells her what the story should be like. The last one she finished by saying "It won't end happily ever after they will end up deaded." Good job mums a journalist ;D.

Thanks to my lovely appliance buying Nana it didn't take too long on my fabby sewing machine.  ;D
Typing that just made me think of all the appliances she has bought me over the years: sewing machine, bread maker, Kenwood chef (wooohooooo) food processor, chip pan, chest freezer, 3 tier steamer, coffee maker (the drip one) and the fancy metal one that goes on the hob. She knows she is appreciated but I think I'll have to send her a nice floral reminder tomorrow.  ;D

Firstly, thanks all! Secondly it appears my nana has taken over this thread-GrannieAnnie-when I was 13 I had a pair of ripped jeans that had taken me ages to 'perfect'. I went to stay with my grandparents, as we did most hols and while we there... she mended and patched them!!!  :o :o :o :o Then presented them to me in a blase, "Oh, I've done you a huge favour" kind of way. She knew what she was doing, she just wasn't going to allow me to leave the house like that!!!  ;D

[/quote I'm showing my age! Recently we were watching some of the Foyle's War series and commented how neat and cleanly folks dressed to go shopping back then. A shame things have deteriorated to my way of thinking. But that is not what this thread is about!

;D GrannieAnnie-I am the one who started the thread so permission to wander freely is granted! I love the way people dressed to travel in the 20's and 30's. Not like now with men wearing ugg boots (so wrong) and more polyester than is safe.  ;D

As to Foyles war - never seen an episode but they film it in the old town in Hastings.......

Indeed. I have several if you'd like one! The last time she visited I was making a lasagne-stirred the sauce-put the spoon down on the top and she asked where the spoon thing was (which has a proper name that I don't know) I had to shame-facedly retrieve one from the back...and I mean the back of a cupboard.
:-[ Well, the tops ARE clean!

We've become hooked on Foyle's War and rent it from NetFlix. Of course often we cannot understand the lingo! However the  complex plots are well done and then reading the historical background afterwards is enlightening. Of course the British acting is superb.
