Not sure if this is a good idea or not or whether anyone will use this thread?
But how about we just post 'general chit-chat' on here about any topic we want, just to say hello, tell other people what we've been up to today (gardening-wise or otherwise) It could be like a communal blog that is 'allowed' to go off-topic!
I sometimes want to tell everyone what I've been up to on the allotment but can't find a thread to post it on. And sometimes I want to complain about my mother ;D
Shall we give it a go? I'll start - obviously ;D
Haven't been up to allotments today, I went to see my mother. It was stressful!
Good news on the allotment front though. After the winds demolished 2 greenhouses on allotment no. 2 and I was ready to give it up, I found a lovely mum @ my son's nursery school who wanted to share it!
And after deciding that I was definitely giving up allotment no. 3 (a fruit orchard with a romany caravan on it) we found ANOTHER mum (her best friend) who wanted to share the 3rd one ;D
So now we're planning all sorts of things for the 3 kids to do (who are already friends anyway) and a HUGE party for the summer!
All's well that ends well in Trixieland!
I'm a bit miffed about all the rain we've been having. I want to get on and DIG!

Hello I,m out here we went to chippenham today and I found a wilko,s!I,v read about the barguins at this shop and I soon filled a basket but when I got home I found the seeds I thought were 39p bogof were £3.25 and £2.65 Igot the cheaper ones free though I,m a real cheapskate when it comes to seeds so I expect great things from these

I've got a really bad cold at the moment so I did nothing at all today except sit on the sofa all cold & achy, whilst watching really rubbish day-time telly that becomes strangely addictive after a day or two.
Have rediscovered Midsommer Murders - how fantastically fab is that programme? (Actually I'm ill & delusional - take no notice of that last remark)
Also got phoned by a man who I asked about some old bricks - he's got 200 of them for me - now I can make my cold frame! :)
I saw my mother on Sat - that was stressfull too.

I've been watching Masterchef Goes Large lately and reading the fun threads on the Beeb Food Boards.....'Toad' Torode & Greg Fatty Pastie join in - Pastie writes some blinding pastiches on Queen songs...hilarious ;D
Dodging showers pebble-dashing my lawn the other day...cut out a path in the grass and dashed round finding pebbles in the beds to stamp into the mud. Works a treat, it does 8)

Trixiebelle, thats a great idea from you. Your 'original' postings used to be hilarious and I looked forward to reading your 'doings' as did many others. I will try to add to your thread now and then.
I have loads of probs. with my mother too but only share her 'doings' with close friends. She isn't as bad as she used to be now that she is almost 90 but I have had one hell of a life with her. I haven't been doing much today, a spot of shopping while OH went to a Model Railway Exhibition in Glasgow. I once went to one of them but lost OH cos I found that all the men more or less looked the same from behind. Losing their hair with glasses perched on the end of their noses. So, no way hosey was I going to subject myself to another watching choo choos going round in circles.
Hope others add to this thread and keep it going, we will see.

Tabby! I can't watch Midsummer Murders for longer than 30 minutes! It confuses me. I once tried to watch an episode where someone was murdered and put down a well on the village green. I needed counselling and wouldn't go near water for 6 months. ITV has a lot to answer for.

I can sympathise with you Tabbycat. I'm full of cold too, but had to do my ironing today. It took nearly all day, one stroke with the iron and the next stoke a hanky up to my running snout!!!
Spent the rest of the day slagging off my M-I-L who fell out with me and hubby over two years ago. She's never snubbed the kids before, but it was my son's 12 birthday on Monday and he didn't even get a card from her :'(

well, we managed to get to the plot today, steve's bought a load of plug plants for our sale day so I transplanted a tray of 84 in to 3" pots, now I ache all over, still trying to get over this manky cold..my mum in law's a bit strange, little digs here and there, dad in law's got to go in to hospital and we're going to have to keep an eye on her, she's 87 and i'm not really looking forwrd to it

Funny old day here, numerous calls from Norwich Union in India in complete and utter confusion over Daughter 1's crash in my car yesterday,delivery of very modern Renault courtesy car, (no hand brake and it turns it's own lights on and off. :o) She moves out tomorrow, having had a hissy fit tonight because nothing fits- well you can't expect to get into your size 10 jeans when you're 5 months pregnant....... I've been sewing curtains etc, Bearded Wonder is in a fury 'cos he can't speak to anyone sensible in N.Union, he has just collected Daughter 2 from the station and is none too pleased with her because she is legless ;D.
If it wasn't nearly midnight I'd clear off to the lottie and let them all stew in their own juice.
Feel a bit better now ;)

Oh EMaggie my OH can sympathise with you dealing with Bombay Insurance aka N.Union. After my accident last April he dealt with all the phone calls from them. Was not easy and they could not answer a simple question but were oh so polite to you so you couldnt shout at them. After hours on the phone on one particular day OH asked for a supervisor and he put things right, until the next phone call and so it went on and on. They did cough up the dosh in the end though but OH was treated for his blood pressure.
I got my Insurance demand in the other day and I find that Norwich Union has increased my premium tho. even altho the accident was not my fault, so I am going over to another. ;D ;D ;D

well yesterday was my last day in my old department having been promoted. thankfully most people were at a conference so it was like the marie celeste in the office and i could steal as many purple quality street as i liked ! i'm generous like that.
then when i got in, there was a planning permission letter for the house opposite, who are having patio doors and a deck built ! :o i'm just hoping the local inspector doesn't come looking round the back of mine as i seemed to have forgotten to apply for mine that have been in six months now !
not heard from my mother in a few weeks, things must be going well darn sarf ! 8)

I aint got no Mum nor Dad anymore, but I do have an elderly friend who is as batty as they come in the nicest possible way. Doesn't believe in housework, no dusting done since I did it over a year ago when she was hospitalized- I moved 7 years worth then :o.
Wonder what I'll be like in 20 years time................. :-\

about 100 yards away into the next building ! same outfit, different chaos ! my new boss is currently putting in 50-60 hours/week. he shall be telt that it's sowing season and not to expect that from me !

My Mum lives 2 doors down on the opposite side of the road!! :o :o
We only moved here 6 months ago, but luckily she isn't the nosey sort, just nips in with our forwarded post around "a cup of tea?", "well if you are having one dear" time! ;D ;D
She has been handy though whilst doing the garden, standing on pool liner to stop it blowing away, and general encouragement from the sidelines!
I actually sowed seeds yesterday.......HORRAH! so very happy!!
More today too I hope.
The housework is beginning to get really bad...........I MUST get on top of it!

Bit dull and dreich for gardening today!!!! OH is getting on with the grouting on the tiles in my NEW kitchen. It was hell being without my kitchen sink, no oven and cooker. I washed the dishes in the Bath, made my toast in the D.Room, boiled the kettle in the Hall and at one point boiled spuds in the garage. It will all be wonderful soon, once all the tiles are up.
Mum gave me a dying scene this morning. I went in and she was almost lying flat on the chair with her eyes closed. I asked if she was OK but she didnt reply. I continued to chatter, no reply. I thought oh heck she has had a stroke. I went into her kitchen with some shopping and said, I couldn't get your eclairs and she replied in a feeble voice, OH I need my eclairs. She don't half put the wind up me but because this sort of thing happens daily I try very hard to ignore it. Not easy. ??? ???

Many thanks to my friends who have kept me going with their emails and wishes. However Lish I am on the mend... managed 158 on the peak flow meter this morning!!!!! Had a good laugh over the posts by you and KP. (found your meter yet KP?)
I am fed up with being a horizontal champ, can't wait to get in the greenhouse.

have been out in the drizzle fixing a fleece cloche over the radishes which seemed to have disappeared by half .... b. slugs ! so now they're pop bottled cloched found more things growing in the strawberry bed, could be onions ::)
chopped down a bit of box hedge so i can get behind the greenhouse to put an extra vent in on that side. washed MORE milk bottle pots (I swear they breed when i'm not looking). am generally having a tidy so that the garden looks less like a junk yard and more like a plot.
oh and had a battle with a rose arch that i wanted to go round the side gate for sweet peas to grow up. without exception all the screw washers that are supposed t be fixed into the ends of the cross bars popped out and the curved bit at the top just wouldn't fit. it's now in bits on the deck ! ::)
right, f*g finished. back out i go.
it's amazing what you can find to do out there even when there's nothing to do. think i might sow some leeks in a mo !

I have been putting things to sale on e bay, since OH does most of the buying
(fishing) and I can,t see anything amonst my possessions that anyone else would pay money for :'( I said he,d have to sort some small things out for me to practice
on, he comes up with a reel which son shows me how to :-\ give me small things I say, he then brings a thing worth £100 to sell for a friend and panics when I get it a bit wrong :'( I say thats it do it your******self all he can do on the pooter is e bay buying so we calm down and I made a better job of reels worth £50. he,s gone out and I,m here talking (I hope ) somebody who won,t shout at me

well, we've just been given the news that our daughter's expecting, all trying not to get too excited, she lost a baby last christmas at 10 weeks, she's only 8 weeks at the mo so I'm not supposed to tell anyone, you lot won't say anything, will you ?..I keep finding myself looking at babygros and towels..george(in Asda)is going to take such a battering..keep everything crossed :-X :)

DORIS! No, I haven't got a big freezer but I have got 3 X 4yr old 'grazers' (children!) who will no doubt polish the lot off before they get home :)

I've been inside one of Ahmed's 'secret sheds' on his lottie today. It's like Aladdin's cave 8) I spied a FANTASTIC stained glass, sash window in there - it's massive - and he gave it to me ;D
According to Ahmed, anything made from 1975 onwards to the present day is 'antique' and worth a bob or two ... I think this is the first time he has ever made a correct assessment of an item!
Too soggy to plant the fruit bushes ::) Do you think they'll be all right in buckets of water for a few days or shall I take them out?

thats very exciting for you! i hope the pregnancy progresses well. i lost a baby at about ten weeks aswell and it is amazing how common it is. i went on to have two very healthy boys very soon afterwards so i am sure she will be fine. ahhh babygrows and little bootees. will keep all apendages crossed. ;)

my blokes mates just came round an asked him if he wanted to go power kiting.
they looked at me oddly when i grabbed my coat and rigger boots ;D
like i am going to be left at home when the men go out to play!!!!!
so i invited myself along, was a very good girl helping them get there lines untangled and the parchute thing opened for them. then it was my go and i hogged it for ages!!!
it was fab and i took off a couple of times :o :o
next time i am going to have a go on the 5 meter jobbie and flllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

My boobs are just like that Lish , NOT. Well I have a Mom that now lives with us. She has dementia so you get everything in triplicate wether you want it or not. She goes to a day centre everyday from about 9am till 3 so we do get some time to do what we want, Looking after her is a priority, when thats done we are free. I just hope that when I'm old ( I mean really old) someone is there to look after me. I have spent today taking my rabbit to the vet for jabs, potting on begonias that I got in plugs from (wait for it) Wilkies. and feeling so bad about a lovely lady I met on here named Sarah.Why can't things just go on and on being ok. I thank you all for the fellowship I have found on this site. Loads of love Shirl

Hi can I jump in here, I am feeling really down today, first Saturday in ages I have had without tons of stuff to catch up on,planned to go to the lotties and they are literally under water,so I thought I would sew and my sewing machine light popped, well I will bake thought me,and I dropped the eggs,I cooked dinner and the meat was tough and the blasted cat has just chucked up on my new rug, so I left husband to deal with that and I came here. OOH I feel better now,I shall look forward to tomorrow,XX Jeannine

Trixibelle I sold 2 stained glass windows on Ebay last year, got nearly £200 for the pair. Ahmed sounds a man worth cultivating if only for his shed contents.

Sainsbury's shopping. Then Wickes to buy bark for the garden and a fuse for my heated propagator (sowed aubergine seed a week ago and only just noticed that the propagator is not working ::)) . Sneakily stopped at the allotment on my way home (hurray: rocket has germinated!) Cleaned the guinea pig hutch. Told kids 20 times to tidy up the living room. Spread bark around the garden and got very smelly in the process. Sainsbury's shopping again (while still smelly) because I forgot the carpet cleaner. Cleaned the carpet. Showered!
Tomorrow I'm going to spend some proper time on the allotment. I have some raised beds to build.

its a kite which is basically a parachute, 4 sets of lines connected to 2 bars which are strapped to you wrists. they have to be strapped to your wrists so you dont let go!
it took me all of my strength to stay on the ground but i did get dragged. once you know what you are doing you can 'fly' for a fair way. it was great fun and i was shrieking with laughter ;D

Thanks DP and Emaggie. That will teach me to show off about my 4 day break :) Spent one night at Hemsby , Lorna phoned John and Alyson (without me knowing) to say she was worried about my breathing and "shaking". So the charge of the light brigade (Lorna and Alyson) arrived at midnight to bring me home. Kids realised I was rough (A..) I haven't been glued to A4A for over a week and (B...) so short of breath my chat was down to zero. Nothing compared to our Sarah and family. I will be back to normal in a few more days.

Dandilion, I bought a propagator from a garden centre for £19 recently, it's quite big - double the size of my previous one though no control just on or off.
Jeannine, Hope you have a better day tomorrow. Some days it seems just safer to stay in bed. :)

Sorry to hear that you haven't been well Lorna.Someone said that you hadn't had a flu jab. I had a pneumonia one as well this year but still had a chest infection. Probably would have been worse had I not had the jabs. Nice to see your name up again

Oh, and Ahmed wants his window back. Apparently it wasn't his to give away, it was his nephew Ifzal's and he went barmy when he told him ::) Oh well ... many more antiques in the shed to be had!

been to the lottie, ray and steve tried to fix the communal greenhouse door, sticking, needed a new wheel, got it off and dropped it!!, all the glass went, we've got the plug plants transplanted in there so they had to put wood in the door
I transplanted the sweet peas sowed last october into free pots from asda, four clumps to a pot with canes around the edge
sowed some peas in guttering in the poly
ray and steve cleared out the back room in the big shed
very busy morning, knackered now ;D

Our new greenhouse is nearly finished as well. Just daren't tell Father-in-law that I think the board he put in the middle to mix the concrete is too big to get out of the door (he built the greenhouse round it) Oh well, we've got a saw ....

Am now sitting here crying with laughter at the scene in my head - especially you knitting away in your riggers - those knitting needles can be really sharp!

Manics, are your sweetpeas in their final growing place or will you move them on again? I ask because mine are looking scruffy now. I've pinched them out a few times and worry if I do it again they might not recover. ???
Been to the tip today,spied a nozzle for daughter 1's vac and a small computer table for me (now I am the proud owner of a 2nd puter- 2nd hand) they were in my car and I was off before anyone could say "£5 please madam".A good mornings work.
Went visiting Daughter 1 happily ensconced in her new house-everyone still in jimjams at 1.00pm :o ::) Standards are slipping already and it's only been 1 day. ;D Power knitting...............very funny ;D ;D ;D

EMAG! I'd 'cultivate' Ifzal but he works night shifts and comes up to the allotments from 5am - 7:30am to feed his pigeons. Don't think I could spare my sleep time for an antique window ;D
I bet he only wants it for his pigeon shed as well!
It was mine and my best mate Paul's DREAM to have our own private tip! So we could search through everything that was dumped and open a shop ;D
We also came up with another very good entrepreneurial idea: Buy a field, let the grass grow and put a sign up on the side of the road: 'PICK YOUR OWN HAY!' Low maintenance and we could undercut pet-shops by at least 50%.
We usually come up with these ideas in the pub. But I expect Richard Branson does as well.

Today I had my whole family round, 2 sons,1 daughter and 4 grandaughters all together for the last for a while because my youngest son has just got his visa and is going to the USA to marry his dreamgirl. he can,t come back util he gets his greencard and when they do I shall meet my daughter in law for the first time
we are a family that will never be well off but perhaps one day OH and I might
manage visit they will marry in Los Vagus and live in LA just over the hill that the big hollywoon sign is on

hope your dream comes true, marge, we went to see our daughter get married in las vegas, we're not well off but had a windfall at the right time, you'll never forget the place and the ceremonies, if you go to the right place are wonderful..lots cheaper than uk and a holiday in to the bargain ;D

Had a visit from Ahmed today and he 'confessed' something to me that he has never told anyone for 71yrs (apart from his doctor - 71yrs ago)
He watched Alfie get the eggs out of the chicken shed and launched into an elaborate tale about when he was 4yrs old in Pakistan. Apparently he was ADDICTED to eating raw eggs and buffalo milk butter.
He used to eat 12 raw eggs a day and approx: 2lbs of buffalo milk butter for 6 months - nothing else! He nicked the eggs out of the chicken shed (his Nana couldn't understand why the hens weren't laying as much as usual) and the buffalo milk butter out of his Nana's kitchen when no-one was looking.
After 6 months of this artery-hardening, stomach-churning diet he ended up at the doctors - 'very sick'! No b***dy wonder :o
But Ahmed, being Ahmed, justified it by saying "I was very very healthy on this diet. But I was also sick"

Rainy day in Nottingham so I resorted to 'shed-work' (sitting in the shed and drinking tea) and planting in the greenhouse.
Ahmed had a few words to say about my planting techniques: As follows:

Fair enough. I'm an amateur! But when he told me I didn't need labels on the seed trays because I should KNOW what they are, I lost my temper.
"I CAN'T SEE INTO THE SOIL, I AM NOT PSYCHIC, I NEED A LABEL!"
Ahmed's response:

Got a new boss 3-4 weeks ago, old boss de-moted but still there. New boss going to be based in USA, so stressing as to whether my job will 'exist'. New boss flew in to make announcement to all employees and the next day I was struck down with flu-type virus which kept me off work. Great. New boss goes back to USA, I go back to work. Couple of days later get appendicitis !! Old boss sent message to hospital - 'did I think I'd be back on Monday?' !!!
Out of hospital and OH & mother fighting to look after me - mother PO as she lost (I'll suffer later) - but she has lupus and dad due to have heart surgery next month, so they are barely well enough to look after themselves.
2 weeks on and doc has signed me off for another 2 weeks (and will happily sign me off for 6 weeks in total apparently). New boss sent e-mail - 'has he tipped me over edge' ....
... am bored, very bored. Can't lift, not allowed to go to lottie ... NO seeds sown. OH got me some compost today so may be able to negotiate a visit later this week.
OH's sister started hemo-dialysis (spelling ?) last week. She lives in London and has to go every other day for 3-4 hours. She can't go anywhere unless she can find someone to swap with at the local hospital. She is on the transplant waiting list for a kidney.
Not a great year so far.

WOOHOO! One of my allotment neighbours has given me a complete market stall today, including a canopy ;D Don't know what I'm going to do with it yet but I never look a gift horse in the mouth!

Made the mistake of watching the weather forecast last night. When it said rain all day I decided to take up the offer of time & half at work. Am now stuck here until 1930 hours & can see the sun shining out of the window!!!!!
Dad finished re-erecting my greenhouse last week (will post piccies soon) so could have spent this afternoon sowing seeds....gutted or what.
Have got next four days of work so hopefully going up lottie to (finally) get get started on this year's planting.

a friend gave me her new mobile phone number which after me trying it proved to be wrong. I kept getting a very pleasant gentleman in scotland she kept insisting that it was right and it was me or my phone that was at fault so after I,d got it sorted I texted a sorry to him, he rang back and started chatting me up!! what a thrill !! I didn,t have the heart to tell him I,m a nearly 60 yr old grandmother

Turned the jolly compost yesterday to find Mr & Mrs Rat's residence. Needless to say they will have to look for finer quarters. ;D
Haven't got a clue as to weather conditions today as I was dragged kicking and screaming to Bluewater to solve the tv problem. Daughter 1 is having the existing set up and we are having a new tv. IT TOOK ALL DAY. I rarely look at the blessed thing so I couldn't give a toss really.Anyhow, no sooner I'd stepped out of the car than I was dragged to the pub(next door)
and forced to drink a large glass of white wine--which cured the head ache caused by the bang on the head as a result of falling asleep whilst watching the Allotment prog in the kitchen and falling off the chair onto the tiled floor. Wasn't it the most boring, cringe making program ever?
Those poor folk having to stand and grin at the camera......Aaaarrggggghhhh.

Hi again, chatted with you when you first opened this post with a big tale of woe, not like me usually,I have been reading about Ahmed and presume he is on your lottie patch,he sounds very nice, not a bit like my neighbour who we call Stickyfingers.He is a real chauvinistic fella, thinks women should be home in the kitchen, never on an allotment.I dropped My husband John off there one morning and he glared at me and said, " putting him out to work are you, I expect you're going shopping, or home to watch the telly". I answered that I was going to work as John was retired,He then had the cheek to say,that he would never ALLOW his wife to go to work, you can probably guess more or less what I said, he doesn't talk to me now. Oh well he won't be able to pinch our rhubarb so easily. Such is allotment life. It's blowing a gale here in Yorkshire, not Been able to get anything done. I am kinds curious, does anyone else find that women are seen as lesser beings in the lottie world , or is it just in Yorkshire. XX Jeannine

i think it's an age thing, my sons and son in law see their wives and friends as equals whereas some of the older men, not just on the plot, find it difficult to move with the times..I think they're challenged by strong women...wait for it, go on, Corneykev, get it over with, or you, Ace... ;D ;D

Well I spent the day doing laundry (joy of the heavenly bold! :() Baking Chocolate Brownies, and a Carrot Cake that I have sold (now thats more like it! ;D), and standing freezing at the bottom of the ladder whilst Mr Pinks tried his best to cut back the bloody enormous awful leylandii hedge that the previous plonker occupants decided was a good idea to plant in the front garden! (think he thought I would be nice and soft to land on if he fell :o)
Had to come in 'cos the sink I sold on E-Bay was picked up by a very nice chap so we had tea n chats, and I was well happy with that cos I had lost the feeling in my fingers n toes, the wind is blooming COLD.
Tonight don't have to cook, leftover cold leg of larry, with oven chips! ;D I love Mondays after a roastie! ;D ;D
Trixie I am sure we could come up with something brilliant for your market stall, go on post a pic!

went to netto for copier paper, 1.99, photo quality paper, 2.99
dug up big poppies & campanula seedlings..potted up,
sowed more seeds, cauli, idol, cabbage, kalobos and red cap..transplanted tomatoes and peppers.
tried to find more windowsill space, failed so moved some of the flower seedlings into cold g house
then decided to clean bits of the house up.. :( I'd rather be gardening but it started raining, well that's one word for it, about 11ish here :)

I went to Lidls - missed the fruit bushes & wellies but got 2 'things' for growing sweet peas up, a curly hose, a sprayer & 2 big window box type things at 79p each. Was well pleased & came home & tidied up in garden - not raining here yet.

Ooooooooh I want to go and see if ours has got any fruit bushes left, Goosegog in particular, but I'm stuck here for most of the week awaiting builders, deliveries etc. I may have to look further afield and release moths from the purse.
On the wellie front, I have inherited a pair of green Hunters from a daughter. They are so comfortable but it would be nice to have a LOUD pair. ;D

I went to the lottie this morning, it was very promising with blue skies and sunshine, but the weatherman was right and the rain arrived after about an hour. Just did a bit of tidying and took some rubish to the tip.
Went back home to continue sewing covers for the seat pads of an old wooden sofa that I am renovating.
Feeling a bit better / stronger today, so thought I'd go to my woodworking class tonight - managed to do a bit of chiselling.
Going to Dunelm tomorrow to get some foam to pad the back of the sofa and maybe B&Q for some danish oil.

Cleaned the filters for the fish pond, changed the UV light and cleaned the sponges. Shredded the brussel sprout stems.
Prepared a small area of soil for turfing and removed several fir trees (about 8ft tall) and had been partially blown over by the wind.
Finally went down to the allotment and had a fire to burn all the trimmings from the trees and bushes at the back of the allotment and the vacant one next door to keep it tidy

Seems like forever since I have been down to our plot, is just too wet. OH went down last weekend and tried to do the raised beds. Every time he banged in a post to fix them in, it fell over. Or thats his excuse anyway!
Today finally managed to re-pot the seedlings. Have far too many gardeners delight toms, not even started on the other varieties! Potted up my onions as were growing in the bag. Hope I did the right thing, but figured would rot if I planted them out. And the potatoes that are chitting are looking like they might take over, how big are the shoots supposed to get?
Oh well, least I got to play with a little dirt today! :D

I have noticed this thread, but did not join in as it looked like a virtual chat over the garden fence, not my thing really but good on you all for doing it. THEN! I notice a response is needed from me.
As for all my joking and mocking, I hope nobody takes me seriously, I cant help it. Now as for lady allotmenteers I have nothing but admiration for them. I have women working for/with me, usually they are on an RHS course and are gardening for experience and coursework. They are all very willing to work and I can leave them on their own and know the job will be done. I pass on my knowledge but I am not past trying some of their new ideas. I cant say how old I am, lets just say I have my free bus pass, so its not always the old boys who come out with these chauvinistic remarks.
I still reckon you are right about being challenged by strong women, my wife is a champion arm wrestler. ;D

After ten months in my new house I (with copious assistance from the parents) have finished decorating the front bedroom. When I moved in the previous owner's daughter had had the room decorated like the french flag on all four walls!!!! Considering the other decor I want to change I can well understand why the previous owners had trouble selling the house.
When I look at this bedroom now with it's lilac & white I get a wonderful feeling of satisfaction. Now I just need to start saving up to start on the lounge, the previous owners called "mediteranean style".....I call it "orang".

But I am really cross that I missed the zebra striped ones! Coloured wellies certainly get comments from the men on the lottie - the polka dot ones led to comments about a certain type of swimwear, but everyone on our site seems to get on who ever you are and conversations are never dull. Perhaps they like strong women in Essex - well you never know they might dig their allotment for them!!

I want some jazzy wellies. My sister sent me an usual present last Christmas; wellie warmers - an inner lining for wellingtons, but unfortunately no wellies and I havent got any. Does anybody know where I can get any, no Matalan nearby and we don't have a car to travel to any far off garden centres. ??? busy_lizzie

today weather was brill, a bit cold but DRY and SUNNY..
planted the kestrel spuds under cover, planted out the pre germinated parsnips and some early nantes carrots and early market carrots, again in warmed soil, covered..
transplanted little gem and red parella lettuce in the poly border, under 2 litre plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off
I'm so made up to be able to get some fresh air and a bit of excercise..we had to paddle through the rapidly growing lake next to the raised beds but spring's definitely arrived on our plot ;D

Well, what a lovely day here in Wales. Tried out my sunflower wellies. My neighbour reckons that if I fall over in the lottie and cant get up, just stick my feet in the air and I would be seen for miles around.I didnt dig any faster in my yellow wellies, but I looked really cool ;D ;D ;D(at least, I think so)
Dug over one raised bed, built and dug over another. Planted out my first crop, Snowball onion sets. Nipped to Asda to get some bargains and am off to walk the dog to finish the day off nicely.

Try Shoe Fayre if you've got one of those - they are doing pale blue ones with roses over them & a couple of other designs, or Peacocks - I got purple ones with pink and white dahlia patterns over them from there last year.

been transplanting tomato seedlings today, I know they say pinch out the weakest seedling but they were all healthy so I've transplanted them all..too many but I'm sure lots of people will take some , also moved the french bean seedlings into the greenhouse, they were getting too leggy so will take them to the polytunnel tomorrow, that'll shock them into slowing down

Wow - they should bring the sunshine out. I can't do pictures yet, but just as well as most of the polka dots on mine are covered in mud! One old fellow commented yesterday about the fact they were too ddirty to see the spots so i pointed out that i was obviously working much harder than him. Perhaps I shall wear the bright red swirly ones tomorrow to see what comments I get!!

Fancy wellies for piano legs - now there's a marking niche just waiting to be filled. I'd be happy with a pair of wellies that would not only fit my calves but also be a doddle to slide over my inhumanly high insteps.
The boobs on the poolside statuette - I think she's sickeningly young and time hasn't taken its toll yet. I remember when mine were like that a loooong time ago <sigh>. I bought some bras in the USA this year which re-enacted my youthful boobs (on a grander scale! ;D) which were not only padded but came with inflated soft plastic chicken fillets. My word - is all that completely necessary?!?!
Other news - I'm looking for a new job, the flat sale has fallen thorough when contracts were due to be exchanged so draughty (gale force) front door and french windows will remain for another few months. Let's hope that everything gets completed so we have half a chance of being rid of draughts before next winter. We are also posessors of a dead shower, a leaky bathroom (onto the flat below...) a broken dishwasher and a bugger of a badly-planned kitchen. Like mum, I seem to be ending up sorting out other people's terrifying DIY skills! (The previous owners left us a hole the size of a fist covered with brown parcel tape. Tells you all you need to know, really!)

Ahmed showed me round one of our Italian friend's allotments (sadly he died last year) and there were 2 plants randomly growing in the greenhouse.
AHMED: "Me and Dario have no idea what these plants are. No-one else seems to know either. We think they might be weeds."
ME: (Casually ..) "Oh no Ahmed! It's lovage .. used in cooking for blah blah blah. I'm surprised Dario doesn't know what it is. It's very popular in Italy you know"

we're all the same on our plots, just as well, really, sometimes the 'insults' fly..planted some beetroot between the onions today, some long white icicle radish in the parsnip bed, they're still looking great
the first lot of peas in guttering are looking brilliant, another week and they can go out, under a cloche

I actually managed to stay a while on my plot today(ill all week), over a coffee I happened to say to someone I was going to pull all my goosegobs out as I had not had any since I planted them three years ago, I said I got fruit,lots of it and when it was just on the point of being ready it vanished literally overnight,not a trace,I said the birds didn't even drop one in flight.I was then told it was not the birds but a two footed pincher who has stripped several plots for the last few years,trouble is they can't catch him. Whoever he/she is only takes gooseberries and they all go on the same night, and apparently this crook is choosy, he/she never takes them from anywhere if there is the slightest sign of mildew. This would explain why mine vanished(mostly Pax) and my neighbours with Wh Indusrtry or some such name were left as his were damaged.
What does one do in a situation like this,he/she are not partial to blackcurrants or redcurrants. My blueberries vanished overnight too so last year I took the bushes home and put them in pots,fabulous harvest.
It makes me angry.

Its not funny when that kind of thing happens, ours is a small site so hopefully won't happen to us.
Am soooooo pleased that the weather has brightened up a bit. First chance this year to go down and do some proper work. Have double dug ( or 1 and a halfdug ) a bed this afternoon. Am absolutely knackered but pleased things are finally going in the right direction!
Have also asked for some groovy wellies for my birthday this year, not til next month though. So will have to wait a bit! :( Should have asked for them for mothers day! ::)

We do have locked gates and high fences with wire on top,but still it happens.There is a playing field next to us,one day last year one of our lottie owners was walking his dog there at about 7.am.and he saw a man with a bike.Attached was a cart,and loaded up on the cart was loads of greenhouse aluminium.Our lottie owner asked where he had got it and was told Oh I found it there and pointed to a corner of the playing field. Not satisfied he called the police,they came and he was questionned.In the meantime several lottie owners had arrived and sure enough the stuff was off our site,this character must have climbed over the wired fence,there he saw some half built greenhouses, there were about 4 I think, he chucked them over the fence where his cart was but was then delayed because he had to bend it in smaller pieces to get it on his cart.His arguement was that he saw the pile while he was walking his dog earlier that morning so he took his dog home and got his cart.After giving his address it turned out it was 6 miles away and he didn't own a car.He then had the cheek to say" well it is no good now, so I wll take it to the scrap man"......Not, said out lottie man and insisted on it being returned. Later that week John went to get the aluminium bits of an old greenhouse he had been saving to make a cucumber frame and we found we were one of the four, I never found out what happened to him.
Sadly we are at the mercy of vandala are pinchers on our lottie,there has even been talk of some staying overnight to try to catch them.

I got the promise of an early anniversary present today,A £10 truck load of Cow poo, we all had a laugh as John handed £20 quid to the man who orders it,then it dawned on him he would have to shovel it." Lets not be mean "I said,"it is your anniversary too," I turned to the man and said " don't bother with the £10 change ,we will have 2 lots,one each!"...I am still laughing..John not.XX Jeannine

those wellies might have fit you jeannine i,v got big legs 17" around calf and they fit me my our arold (after steptoe) looks a bit like it,s giver at times ;)
potted up my tomatoes today 6 kinds also washed and polished my car and it,s not even MOT time it,s bound to snow ;D

I'd be tempted to rig up a demountable system of panelling and barbed wire that gets erected around the bushes when harvest time is looming. make sure the corner posts are properly cemented into the ground and that the panels are padlocked to the posts.
Rather extreme, possibly time consuming, but rather that that growing guzbrees for other people's benefit.
Oh, and put up a sign saying things like "at own risk" & "allotmen holder accepts no responsibility" etc.
Or just take the plants home for planting wherever there is space.

I think I might just have a PJ party in the shed this year,so if there are any GooseGob burgalars out there that are thinking about pie you don't own I will be after you ,and believe me I am no pretty sight in my Jammies especially when I am mad. I even frighten myself in the bathroom mirror when I get up in the night.
Oh picture this.Waist length hair stuck up all over the place,me in my night attire which is the much much oversized version of what the average 2 year old wears,lambs, bunnies, teddies etc, and wearing my custom made wellies adorned with bells, diamante, feathers and whatever else takes my fancy..here I come charging out of the shed, mad as a hatter (as I have been recently described by another forum member by the way) holding aloft whatever comes to hand,probably my hot pink watering can,or the odd left over leek ,shrieking like banshee, " Leave 'em alone". The poor crook probably would never nick another Goose Gob in his life.
YES!!!!!Power to all geriatric , over weight female lottie owners,we will not be nicked from.

I'm getting welly envy ... I had some lovely stripey wellies when I first got my plot - they were from Homebase and I got them half price in the sale - but they only lasted 6 months before splitting and disintergrating ... grr. Now have very boring green wellies, but at least I think they'll last.
Going to go up to the lottie tomorrow if the weather is good. I'm getting cabin fever. So bored at home this week that I henna-ed my hair - its now a gorgeous copper red. Don't know why I didn't do it when I was younger - lacking the courage I guess.
16 of my tomato plants have appeared, although they took me somewhat by surprise. On Thursday they had just broken the surface of the compost, didn't check them on Friday - this morning they are over an inch high and desperate for some light ! No sign yet of the peppers or aubergines. Thinking of planting my onion sets and shallots tomorrow. Need to check whether my vole family have left me any peas !
Anyone know why I've not got any frogspawn in my pond. It was built / filled last May and we found various frogs on the lottie last year, but no sign of anything in the pond.

I didn,t get much frog spawn the 1st year infact the first i knew about it was when i saw 3 taddies :o three years on and theeres a massive splodge
picked PSB and kale and planted a few shallots it alllooks bleak at the moment
and the winter cabbages have been slugged although the leaminton coali,s are doing well here are my one and a half plots marg

ooo, looking nice and tidy Marg - I have a thing for freshly dug beds !
checked pond yesterday and have a lovely clump of frog spawn & three frogs. The area around the pond is going to be a flower bed, so I did a bit of light digging in preparation. It was a beautiful day at the lottie - managed to prick out some cabbages (Hispi), tomatoes (various) and marigolds. Cauliflowers emerging and peppers and aubergines just breaking the surface today.
Seen a house for sale just down the road from the lottie, so keep your fingers crossed. I get really excited before the viewing and am then generally disappointed when we get there, but this one looks really good on paper and from the outside.

Ooooh woe is me. We had a busy weekend with friends staying (lovely), and after they left I started to feel giddy. :o It wont go away. It's like the feeling you get if you have been twirling on the spot and suddenly stop.
Being of the 'ignore-it-and it-will-go-away' brigade I've been to plot to put spuds in etc., and spent the afternoon in my garden having a tidy up. Now I feel really grotty.This week is soooo busy. Please can we have a 'giddiness go away chant' at 8. 30pm today?
Back to the wellies.........oh how I want some---roses, leopard print, sunflowers......I wouldn't care.
and yes Jeannine, I'd like to be in your gang, the sleepover sounds really good. Shall I bring alcohol in my hot water bottle? I like goosegogs alot.
Have you got toilet facilities near your shed? If it looks as if no-one is going to nick anything we could all go to Theothermargs plot and admire her digging............... ;D

I have just this afternoon spent nearly an hour with the surgery Sister doing various tests, I am glad I went as she will get to the bottom of problems at end of the day. Must get ourselves 100%, think of all that gardening we have to do.

We have 6 doctors in our practice and only 2 that listen to what you say.It does rather put you off going. Had the medical book out to self diagnose and I don't seem to have anything known to medical science. ;D

No not a matron,but I do remember the one who was at my first hospital,oh dear I hope I am not like that!! I hadn't thought of that for years.
If we broke a thermometer we had to take the bits to her office to be told off about the cost,I broke so many my Dad bought me a few .
It was in 1958 when I started as a cadet nurse and we had to live in.If I was at the gate with my boyfriend saying goodnight I just knew she would get off the bus by the gate,she frightened me to death, the next morning I would be in her office being told the perils of sex.
Oh happy days. I remember her name as clear as a bell.
First day ,when several of us started together we were shown our rooms, handed our uniforms and told to put them and go to the reception area, but we were told not to wear the cap. Cap, I could't find a cap, just a starched square of white cotton. She then taught us how to make a butterfly cap out of it,it came down almost over our eyebrows with these tiny fan bits at the back.When we went into the dining room heads turned and it was obvious that we were new, as everyone elses cap was tiny on the top with big butterly wings at the back,we newbies were given a helping hand by the elders so the next day we didn't look so ridiculous. I have tried many times to make that cap since and I can't.

I was trying last night to post something for you, emaggie..it could be an ear infection, if you've had a heavy cold lately, I suffer from them, called vertigo..makes you feel woozy and sickly..hope your doc can help, mine usually gives me advice only unless I'm actually being sick ::)

no shed no glass no carpets and since one lady covered her plot in plastic bottles
to "warm the ground" and then vanished you get straight looks if your seen with one no 1 son is taking us to donkey world on MD GD is 18mths and has daisy wellies cus she,s daisy forcast is wet so i have cleaned up roses to wear ;D

yep Caroline she is Cavalier.. Blenheim. Sorry about spelling of Charles(Charlie) but then again she was Charlie's dog ;D Sorry going off subject folk. Have always had Labs and German Shepherds but due to Charlie being disabled we thought a smaller dog would be better. He thoroughly spoilt her for three years when he was alive (she will be 8 in Sept)She is so territorial and has to be put in another room if strangers come in to the bungalow, and barks and growls at anyone within 10yards of the bungalow or the car. Although I am sure she hasn't got a bite in her. She was always taken everywhere with us so if left alone she barks all the time (not a problem with neighbours...Lorna JNr :)). One consolation if I want to go and visit friends she will quite happily lay in the car. I go to a friends every Wed eve and she lays out in the car for up to 4 hours. Never had a problem dog before but she is a darling. Will find pic.

Today I have been 'Lidl'd' .. and I'm £60 skinter than I was when I went in. Loads of fab perennials in there for 69p & 99p.
Didn't spend the WHOLE £60 on perennials though. I also bought essential items such as tins of sardines for 19p and large jars of brockwurst sausages .. whatever they might be ::)
And no, I haven't been lured into Ahmed's shed lately ;D It's too bloomin' hot in there! He has a big woodburning stove going full blast all day. I swear he could grow pineapples in it.

had my hair cut .only cut cus i,s got a mind of it,s own it don,t like being told what to do, like the head under it. then i took myself swimming, quite pleased 20 lths cus i havn,t been for app 6 monthes then i sowed a lot of out of date seeds you know free ones with magazines i,m trying to reduce my stash going to chuck a lot on the garden to see what happens. it,s difficult i don,t want them but you can,t give them away cuz they might not be any good i can always give the plants away if they are

Things never ever go smoothly for me and rarely get time away because of my ageing Mother. However, I thought a day away to York yesterday with OH and go to Sarahs funeral and then home again would go ok. WRONG!!!! Oh Yesterday was ok and enjoyed the journey down to York and a wander round the lovely city. Popped into one or two shops, but bought NIL. Today at breakfast got a phone call from Warden at Mums Sheltered Housing. Mother had fallen last night and had laid on the floor all night and was now on her way to Hospital, they were waiting on the ambulance. I did go to Sarahs funeral, which was so apt and a lovely service. I met one or two lovely people from A4A but only briefly because I had to get back home again. Mum hasnt broken anything but is shaken up a bit. Its sods law isn't it. You watch over them when your at home and do everything for them and when you want some time out, well you are not really allowed it. Doesn't seem fair does it, but then who says life is fair.

Carol, sorry to hear about your Mum hope she soon feels better. So glad you managed to get to Sarah's funeral. It can be hard going when we have to watch over loved ones. I know when Charlie was alive the longest I left him alone was for 1.1/2hours when I did all my weekly shop. I was always nervous in case he tried to get out of his electric wheel chair and had a fall.

Poor old soul said she crawled on the bedroom floor but couldn't reach the pull chord for the Warden. She managed to pull a pillow off her bed and she cuddled up on the floor with the Sheepskin rug over her. Good job her flat is warmish but she said she felt the draught from the window!!!

dear carole have you considered the alert thing which the less abled wear and press when they are in trouble i know they cost app £60 a year i think but the peace of mind it gives can be worth it. a dear old friend had one and found it a godsend she is gone now but in the end it did mean she didn,t die on the floor alone my thoughts are with you

bad luck, Carol..but that's all it is, luck, you have to have some life of your own, I've nursed my own mum, dad and grandma until they passed away, I used to feel guilty as hell when I had some time off, your mum would've fell even if you were there..enjoy the little time you get, marilyn :-\

son 1 took us to a donkey sanctuary today at branscombe? the wind was blowing and the hailstones were hailing but we are british(mad dogs and so on) their are loads there and all different but they all have a ee-or look about them. i learned a lot more about donkey,s then before i,m sure the info will come in handy sometime

Well, I don't know what your Sunday brought. but turned up at the lottie to find two lorry loads of cow poo dumped on the lottie, or rather half on the lottie,half on the road,poor John is struggling moving the barrier as we speak.

Good news about the leg, sorry to hear about the snips though.
Maybe I should put some of this poo on the swap page,John is still shovelling it,6 days now and he says he has hardly made an impression on the heap,he was there in the fog today.Good news is that the traffic is moving again now, Yesterday I found he had been using my beautiful pink gloves ,all three new pairs are now dark brown!!! I heard a tip once, that if before you do gardening, you scrape your nails into a bar of soap, your nails will stay clean. All you need to do is wash your hands afterwards (as if you wouldnt) and the soap will wash out, leaving your nails fresh as a daisy.
I tried it, but it felt really uncomfortable. I would rather use the apple pie method :P
have also heard (mine of information, me) that chefs buy a white pencil thing that they use to make their nails nice and white after preparing mushrooms.

AFTERNOON ;D
I've had a fabulous couple of days running planting sessions at my son Alfie's school. I've set up an allotment garden area with 5 raised beds and have been planting fruit and veg. with the littlies :) It's been HILARIOUS!
I gave up trying to get them to plant things in lines and resorted to the 'dig a hole and chuck it in' method! Every single classroom windowsill is also overflowing with individual pots of sunflowers, peas and beans and the floors are swimming in mud - the teachers LOVE me .. ha ha!!
Actually, I did get in a bit of trouble today when I took Mabel the chicken in for a visit without warning them. The kids went WILD. They had her in the classrooms and running up and down the corridors ;D caused a bit of a riot, ruined their lesson-planning and Mabel left 4 deposits of her very best manure along her way.
Alfie also caused a bit of a stir when he stuck his whole head into a bag of compost up to his neck and emerged covered in it shouting "MUUUUMM look at MEEEEE"
Wonder if they'll want me back tomorrow ::)

Emaggie! I come from a whole family of teachers (primary school, nursery, headmasters, heads of department, PE teachers and the odd (very odd!) university professor.
I LIVE to wind them up! Pity the OFSTED reporters weren't in!
Mabel wouldn't have eaten you. She hasn't got the teeth or the sense ;D
In fact the teachers said "Isn't she good with the kids. She's a very clever chicken isn't she children?"
Erm .. no ... not really .. she's got the brain the size of that pea you've just planted children!

I took my bantam Sally into assembly once, we had hatched her from an egg is school so I took her back to show the children how she had grown & to show one of her eggs. She was sitting quietly on my lap while I was talking about her when something scared her & she flew down right into the midst of the new reception class who all started screaming & trying to get away with poor Sally nearly trampled to death in the middle. All the adults present were in hysterics - right I thought that's the last time I do that - until Sally hatched some ducklings which I just had to take and show them but that's another story. :)

This thread has had me crying with laughter! My daughter is in reception and they have had an incubator of chicky eggs to hatch out over past fortnight. They started hatching last week and go back to the farm today. Watching these poor little chicks cheeping for help, having their eyes squeezed out of their heads by overly enthusiastic 5 year olds was bit too much for me so I scarpered! Freya snaffled one and took it to book corner to fuss it properly.
I've always wanted to start a little gardening club at the school, but the parent that has strangle hold on all that is complete tos*er, really overbearing and big pretentious git. So I haven't. ;D

Lovely day up at the allotment today - although it looks like I'm running out of room for all the seed packets I've got to plant ::)
Ahmed and Jack had a little 'spat' which marred the day. It started with the 'correct' way to transplant lettuces and ended up with a full-scale argument about setting beetroot.
Ahmed had 'his' way, Jack had 'his' way and I had MY way!
I've never heard such petty bickering in all my life! They stood watching me prepare the rows and NEVER SHUT UP for about 20 minutes.
So in the end I set 3 rows of beetroot in the 3 styles suggested, put labels on them all (Ahmed, Jack, Trixie) said it was a competition and told them both to P**S OFF!
Of course they immediately became the best of friends again and wandered off into the shed to complain about me and my 'fancy ways'.
I think it was easier planting with the nursery kids at school last week ::)

Looked like a perfect afternoon for the lottie. Boy, was I wrong! The sky went navy, thunder rumbled, torrential rain and gale force wind. I was working in the greenhouse, and decided to get out of there pretty quick, as it felt like it was going to explode with the force of the wind.
I was planning to transplant some toms into pots in there, but they are sat on the greenhouse path in their original pots. I wasn't going to hang about!
It's SO frustrating not being able to do what was planned :( Ah well , there's always tomorrow ;D
The wind is still howling tonight. Hope it stops soon.

still going to be a grandma, 12 weeks on and everything still seems o.k, (keeping my voice low)..do you think it'll be o.k. to buy some of the nappies netto are getting in on monday, 90 huggies for 9.99
we're still nervous but sam feels o.k..she had lost the last baby by now, she's still worried and doesn't have her scan for 2 more weeks
it just seems too good a bargain to miss, I'll hide them from her and say nothing :)

We have strange and wondrous hormones in our family. We either give birth when we're 16 or 40yrs old. This makes family trees a bit confusing and family gatherings a positive delight.
All the kids (and some of the adults) are asking "So ... are you my sister or my Aunt? Are you my cousin? Is that my nephew or my uncle over there?"
My dad once brought my little brother (a month younger than my own daughter) to see us. He introduced my daughter as 'Your big sister'!!!
Utterly DREADFUL mistake to make if you consider the genetics of it all ... but he was genuinely confused ::)
It's been bl**dy FREEZING here today. I've had to resort to digging to keep warm.

Great news manics. :D This must be THE year for having a baby. We're still in one piece here,(or at least daughter 1 is) and we've got to 27 weeks now. Keeping everything crossed for both. Not allowed to buy anything yet though, but I confess to having hidden some little bits away. ;D

Started some beetroot in greenhouse, transplanted it yesterday with bloke from another plot tutting and sucking through his teeth telling me HE didn't think you could do it like that and HE was going home to look it up in his book. ;D ;D ;D

they've given me a t.e.n.s. machine to try for 2 weeks, then i can buy one if I want, no vat to pay..wierd feeling, like pins and needles, think I'll start a thread, ask if anyone's ever used one ,

They are waiting and I'm very glad. Her friend gave birth to the expected son 3 weeks ago, it seemed weird knowing, even for us.

ye, I hate moaning, I am unable(hate can't) to take strong painkillers, nsaids, etc 'cos of ibs, generalised osteo, so, they've given me this wierd thing to try.. ;D

i,v had good news and bad news good is .....i,v been told when the plaster is coming off bad is ...it,s in 4 weeks time may 1st still i,m being positive amgetting much more mobile and begening to put more wieght on it doesn,t hurt but aches after went up the lotty to pick psb and lost my balance well i had a soft landing
(mud and backside) but was stuck like a beached whale as cruches were all over the place OH wasn,t much help as i,m over 12 st and he,s got a bad back you,v got to laf or you,d cry lovely psb for lunch

Had a lovely day at the allotment today!
Me and my mate Sally ran a 'pick as many as you can dandelion flowers' competition for the kids. They duly ran off picking as many as they could for about an hour. PERFECT!
And the results of the competition?

My rabbit Rita (pedigree Rex Dwarf) is about to give birth to babies .. crossed with Dario's dwarf Dutch rabbits :D Should be pretty little things!
Ahmed has agreed to be their Godfather: Bring them up in the Christian tradition and buy them chocolates on their birthday and a bottle of wine for me :D
He's a big softy about pets :D He's also Godfather to about 150 baby goldfish in my friend's pond.
EVERYTHING IS GROWING AT THE ALLOTMENT!! IT'S SOOOOOOOOO EXCITING :D

Hi Trixiebelle, I could have used those dandy pickers myself.What a clever idea, that is a lot of flower heads that won't seed.
I find it amazing that everything is popping up and how easily we forget what we were thinking just a few weeks ago. I was rejoicing because I had found 1 asparagus tip that I could take home and eat, now today I thought ' oh heck ,more asparagus'!!! Same with the rhubarb, first bit was heaven.
At the lottie today, the sun was shining, birds were singing, a kite was flying in the distance,folks were greeting each other with smiles,all seemed right with our corner of the world.
One by one we plant our different types of seeds,and the heap of paper packets gets smaller each day,what was a race to get in 4 weeks ago is history now as the progress on the plants shows.
Tying in the grape vine or cleaning out the big plant pots ready to receive cukes ot tomatoes etc reminds me that another year has begun.
Do I have a small life, well perhaps but it makes me feel good to do these things.

No Jeannine. When I go plotwards, it always puts me in a relaxed state of mind and I think of how I've not enjoyed a task/hobby/don't know how best to describe it as much for EVER. I've managed to go up every day this week so far, though I haven't managed much as GP doubled dose of BP medication and it is all I can do to put one foot in front of the other. ::) But with the cat litter advice and the pop bottle slug collars things are looking good, though I seem to be a bit behind you.
Not too sure about hardening off squash yet, so they are still in greenhouse. I take it I can start exposing them to real life now?
Off to jolly Spain for a week on Sunday, and I thank goodness for the transportable plastic greenhouse and my mate Malcolm. ;D

just heard by e mail my baby boy 24 ( the wild child) got married in los vagus on monday i knew it was going to happen just not when they just did it as the spirit moved very strange feeling i will meet my new daughter in law when he gets his green card and is able to get back in the USA again they are a lot tougher then here!! they seem really happy and i can,t wait to see the piccy,s meanwhile i sit here waiting for my fibia to mend

Transported my babies and their plastic house to my mate Malc today for their holiday- he has agreed to love and care for them whilst I am away. The only casualty on the journey was a SS Futsu. :'(. Glad I have 3 more looking good. AND, Trixie, Ahmed's Bos is an ENORMOUS thing :o Cannot wait to see the fruit.
Spoken to friend with whom we will be holidaying and she can't get into any clothes either, so we'll both have a 'hungry bum' ;D

went to lotty this morning to do a few jobs when OH saw someone with a rotavater looking strange thought he had hurt himself with it but it turned out he,d had a heart attack fortunatley there were 2 retired nurses there who worked on him till a ambulance came it seems they had managed to get a pulse going we are all hoping he is well. it felt funny how we had witnessed a struggle between life and death and yet every thing seemed so normal OH decided not to do any digging today and we returned home thinking what a wonderful thing those women had done

Luckily, the St. John's Ambulance Brigade have taken over the site opposite our lotties and I've been swapping phone numbers and putting notices up etc.
I've been trying to get them both to switch on their mobile phones but to no avail ::)

I've got the opposite problem Manics. My shoulders are too 'slopey' and no matter how tight I do the straps up they're always round my elbows ::) Fortunately the garment in question doesn't have an AWFUL lot of work to do in terms of hoisting up ... if you know what I mean!
I had a LOVELY surprise this morning. 2 lingonberry bushes arrived from Marshalls ;D And apparently 10 globe artichoke plants and 10 parsley plants will be following shortly. No idea how that happened ::)

Today has seen the usual, annual 'Trixiebelle has planted her sweetcorn' debate between Jack, Dario and Ahmed.
The 1st year I planted sweetcorn: "Too close together, it'll never grow" was the general consensus. It grew fantastically well.
The 2nd year I planted sweetcorn: "Not close enough together, it'll never grow" It grew fantastically well.
THIS YEAR! I boxed clever ... 20 plants close together, 20 plants further apart.
And then the great SPACING debate began again this afternoon! COME ON IN BOYS ... LET'S SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY!
AHMED: "They're too close together"
JACK: "They're too far apart"
DARIO: "The ones in the middle are ok but the other's aren't"
AHMED: "I think they'll do well"
JACK: "I think the ones on the outside will be all right"
DARIO: "I think they'll do well"
AHMED: "Some are close together .."
JACK: "Some are far apart .."
DARIO: "I don't think they'll do very well"
Having bamboozled them with the great 'spacing' debate they turned their attentions towards the benefits of soaking seeds before planting them and how I could have POSSIBLY done everything wrong by soaking them/not soaking them.
So I told them ...
"Every 3rd sweetcorn plant in the nearest spacing has been soaked prior to planting and every 4th one along in the furthest spacing hasn't. Every plant in an 'odd' row (i.e. labelled 1,3,5,7 etc) has been watered in and every plant in an even row (i.e. 2,4,6,8 etc) has been deprived of oxygen, light and water for 100 days. I'm experimenting."
That shut 'em up! And I'm not even that KEEN on sweetcorn ::)
I had to give them their hour of glory though and admitted that I was going to plant a couple of courgette plants in-between the sweetcorn because they make ideal companion plants etc .... They laughed heartily, shook their heads and went their separate ways.

i must be the only purple plastered female bricklayers assistant in england ( please tell if there is another) OH was laying bricks above our garage door as he has replaced the lintle cuz the old one was cracked, i was cracking by the time it was done!! my duties as a gofer were to hand things up but was so tired i slept all evening and all night the beforementioned cast is due to come off next tuesday

Went to Spain for a week of sun etc. Ha! It was b****y freezing most of the time AND 'he' got manflu on Tuesday and made it last 'til today. ::) I would sympathize if he wasn't soooo dramatic........'I have never been so very ill, what have I done to deserve this, etc. etc.' Anyhow, he rallied at feeding time and we ate and drank alot. We still enjoyed ourselves nonetheless and will probably return in October in the hopes of seeing some sun.
Now for a mighty sowing, beans French and runner, sweetcorn, cougette and marrow, and a big tidy up on the plot. I've dedicated the rest of the week to gardening matters and everything else can wait.(or someone else can do it ;D)

went to netto and got some corn seeds for 19p, incredible f1, only 7 of the royalty are showing and I need 14 for the poly, thought this was quite a good deal, only 14 seeds but that's enough :)

Oh yes, not arf!! With little rubber buttons on that went through a boil. I wore them on top if a hand knitted abb wool vest,along with long leg directiore knickers with a pocket that I used to keep toffee in . The buttons on the liberty bodice fastened to loops in my knickers. Goodness knows how it got the name Liberty bodice!!
I remember arguing with my mother to wash the woollie vest after she knitted it cos it was greasy, she refused saying the lanolin kept the trawler men warm so it would keep me warm too.

A very pleasant few days have passed, and as Trixie has been looking at babies, so I have been washing baby clothes ! Daughter 1 has been given a bag full of newborn stuff, I have dragged out the beautiful cot blanket knitted for her as a baby by M-in-L. 28 years old and still beautiful. It's a good few years since my washing line held such tiny garments.
Sunflowers given to my favourite yong man, Charlie ,3. (daughter 2's friend's son- my new best friend- he calls me Eggie ;D) On the lottie things are mostly brill, I now have two men offering to rotovate the last bit for me, 8) and I have made the momentous decision to stop messing around and sprinkle the blue slug pellets. I have been given an Oregon blackberry bush and a round courgette plant. Things are so much better now all the plots are let. The old stalwarts are still there with their ' they wont last long' attitude (I overheard one saying " are you going to plough the stubble field" refering to rotovating my plot 1/2 covered in straw) but our end is very friendly now. Long may it last.

I've succumbed ? is that how you spell it..?..bought 4 baby vests and 3 sleepsuits, 0 to 3 months..but sam just won't even look at them until her 20 week scan ( 20th may)..she's still so worrried even though we've seen the 16 week one and everything's going fine..i don't know how to reassure her..still, maybe when she's had that one, she can relax a bit :)

Hi Manics, I am picking up on your news after the fact so I don't know the start,so I am guessing a high risk pregnancy here. I have heard you mention it before but didn't know the details.My daughter in law in Canada got through a very worrying pregnancy 2 years ago after 4 miscarriages. The last one they had told her had tested positive for spina bifida and thet wanted to do an amnio to confirm it which she refused in case it made her miscarry again.So she sweated it out, well we all did. After the scary time for the miscarriage was passed we still were very anxious and scared right to the end. Hollyanne was born 2 days late, perfectly normal. It was a very long nine months I can tell you. XX Jeannine

Oh Boy, more babies to be added to the A4A forum. I hope everything goes well for all expecting Mums. Manic my very best wishes to your daughter, I am sure you are all getting very
excited. I had to keep things in my bungalow for Chloe-Ann as Gemma also didn't want things at hers. Bit of panic at last minute :) although she did have a set of white outfits at the ready. Manic just a little warning be careful about those 0-3month sizes, Gemma bought some and because Chloe was quite big some are a bit tight, in fact she is wearing some that (great) Aunty Lorna bought her, the next size.
Finished my first raised bed yesterday going to attempt the next one today if the back holds out :) Remember Manic I said they were going to be quite high so a lot of filling to do.

Nice idea Trixie. :) I've wanted to make a couple of posts on here in the last few days, but wasn't sure where to put them. Probably just to get them out of my head more than in the belief that anyone will want to actually read them. :D
Our new lottie isn't shaping up very fast, because we're working on replacing the glazing in the roof of the 12 foot timber greenhouse we inherited on it. All the timber struts had sagged, and the glass had fallen out (we now have a huge pile of broken glass to get rid of. So OH and I have replaced the timber supports, braced them with new timber where necessary, and bound up all edges with bits cut from car rubber matting (got to love Poundland). Today we're going to cover the roof with poly tunnel polythene, kindly donated by a neighbouring allotmenteer (lovely folk they are down our allotments :) ). Then I get to work inside, and OH gets started outside.
There's a shed there too - lovely big one, but one half of its roof had slipped out of the notches cut in the side for the beams. A bit of brute strength (and a small worry about the efficacy of my pelvic floor emerged at that point :o ) and we managed to heave it back into place.
One thing I have spotted - one side of our plot is absolutely thick with sweetpea plants which have obviously self-sown. I can't wait for them to start flowering - it's going to be gorgeous. And we have some strawberries flowering in among the weeds and grass. Add this to the foundations and structure of a poly tunnel which have been unearthed, and we can see a real future for this plot.
Got my tatties and onions growing merrily at the allotment we share, but that one's not nearly half as much fun as having your own to do with as you will.

Manics she is 31 weeks. She had an internal (!) scan which said baby would be born any time after 33 weeks. Likewise with Sam, we weren't allowed to buy anything 'til she had passed 28 weeks. Going for it big time now though ;D
Fencing all up in tiny garden and beds will be marked out and dug tomorrow. I'm just loving this. Hope you had a good day out.

Yep, doing it myself, the sides came from son's workshop so I only really had to put ends on. Blimey they are high, I have named them my "high rise" raised beds :) made second one yesterday. Young Lorna's front borders were far too high so the guy who does a bit of gardening for her is lowering them and wheeling the surplus soil round to mine and putting it in to the second bed. Phew that will save me a job. I still have one more to make and fill, they are on my small veg area so hope I have enough soil to fill the last one. They will be for veg and salad plus some pots of veg. All have a nice lot of horse manure in them. Will take pics, anything for a laugh ;D

it,s may 1st it is now two and a half hours to having the hated cast off and i am terrified !! what if it,s not ready and they put another on? how will it feel walking on it again?well i shall know later i,v such a lot of catching up to do
some thing i feel pleased with myself for doing is spring cleaning my computer i foolwed the instuctions from a book called pc knowledge for seniors and although i cancelled the ongoing subscription at £15 a month the basic stuff is helpful

i,m freeeeeeeeeeee i,v got rid of the ugly heavy lump i have been living with, no not OH, my plaster the ankle is swollen ,bruised and very stiff but i,m walking a bit limpy but hopfully able to drive tomorrow and work in 2 weeks i,ll have to see about the digging !! first thing i did was scrub my leg in the bath then slap loads of body lotion on thanks for your support promise to shut up about it from now on

Today's antics at the allotment were mainly 'communication' based as opposed to anything to do with gardening (well it was too wet to do anything anyway!)
JACK & PADDY'S WHISTLING HEARING-AID COMPETITION
Two EXTREMELY deaf gentlemen sat in my shed trying to hear what the other one was saying and tuning into some AWFUL frequencies on their artificial aids to communication. I'm sure one of them got a Russian radio station at some point.
Me and Alfie had to go and sit 100 yds away and we could still hear high pitched whining and the words "WHAT" & "PARDON, I'M A BIT DEAF YOU KNOW" being imparted at a million decibels.
ME AND AHMED SWAP MOBILE PHONE NUMBERS
Me and Ahmed are pretty similar when it comes to mobile phone technology. We're both c**p!
We decided to swap mobile numbers today in case there's an emergency of some sort i.e. a tomato plant desperately need watering or one of my dandelion seeds has floated over his hedge and needs removing ASAP.
Conversation as follows:
AHMED: "Right, if you phone me then I'll be able to put your number automatically into my phone"
TRIXIE: "What's your phone number then?"
AHMED: "I don't know."
TRIXIE: "Well is there anyone you can ring to ask for it?"
AHMED: "The wife's gone to town shopping and my daughter's in Peterborough"
TRIXIE: "Ohhh hang on! You phone ME and then I'll have YOUR phone number"
AHMED: "Do you know your phone number"
TRIXIE: "Of course I do! Dial this no...."
AHMED: "I haven't got my glasses. Here, you dial your own phone on mine"
TRIXIE: "How do you dial out on this phone?"
AHMED: "You press that ...... NOOOO, NOT THAT ONE!"
TRIXIE: "I think I've just deleted someone on your address book"
AHMED: "What the bl**dy hell have you done?"
TRIXIE: "I DON'T BL**DY KNOW, IT'S YOUR BL**DY PHONE! YOU DO IT!"
We finally decided to write down our phone numbers on a lovely, reliable piece of paper and phone each other as 'missed calls' so we could work out how to put them in the address book later. VERY sensible I thought!
An hour later I get a phone call .....
AHMED: "Who is this?"
TRIXIE: "It's me"
AHMED: "You have just phoned me. You came up as a missed call. Who are you?"
It's probably quicker to send each other a letter in the post ::)
ALFIE BRANSON
Alfie's got chicken pox. His sister Daisy and her mates came to visit us at the allotment to see the baby rabbits and they wanted to see his spots (he's COVERED in them)
The little sod charged them 20p a peek ;D Quite enterprising I thought. AND he showed them all individually so he made a quid!

They had some quite surprisingly liberal views for 75+yr old geezers ;D
In fact Ahmed was quite passionate about the whole thing. Turns out he used to go to his local pub in the 1970's that was a swingers/gay paradise and one of his best mates was a transvestite.
Apparently this didn't go down too well with some of his contemporaries but his final words on the subject were ...
"I USED TO TREAT HER LIKE A SISTER! GOD MADE THEM ALL! THEY ARE ALL HUMAN!"
... and he did a bit of fist-thumping on the shed table to make his point.
Jack wasn't quite as fundamentalist but he did manage the following:
"You know your best mate Paul that came to the allotment the other week Trix? He married a man didn't he? Well I asked him how married life was treating him, just normal like, as if I would as if he was normal. I like the bloke."
Well done Jack! 10 out of 10 for 'moving with the times' ... sort of ;D
We then had a long conversation about dentistry and I found out something that I never knew before. Ahmed only has 7 teeth - 4 on one side at the bottom and 3 on the other. Goodness knows how he eats his carrots.
His daughter (the one in Peterborough) apparently paid over £200 to have him a set of false teeth made, but, in his own words "My body rejected them"
At this point, not to be outdone, Jack took his own set of false teeth out and waved them at Alfie. He was not impressed and neither was I.
I then weeded the strawberry patch which took my mind off the whole sordid affair.
WHAT HAVE YOU LOT BEEN UP TO ANYWAY?? COME ON ... SPILL THE BEANS ;D

Well, now that I am nearing a MAJOR birthday, few months to go yet mind, I have taken up nicking things.Yes I wear purple and a Red Hat!!! Other day in a Garden Centre I was in need of someat sweet so I nicked a jelly bean - only ONE. Oh I did feel guilty but I enjoyed it. Today, we were in line at a Restaurant for boring old soup with a ham baguette and crisps when I spotted thin chips which I really like. One of the chips just looked at me and I thought I am having you so I took it and yuk it was 'orrible. The woman behind me fell about laughing because she was going to do the same thing and nick a chip. Is this the beginning of a life of crime and theres me the pillar of the church!!! So Trixie, apart from nicking a chip I have had a quiet day as usual. ;D ;D ;D ;D

i am going back to work on monday!!! and i am really looking forward to it just to get back to normal the people i work for and with are my friends i,m still limpy, my legs have forgotten how to walk. had the not so bright idea of getting that moisturiser that is supposed to "build a beutiful light tan"to put on my different coloured legs mistake the white with red patches is now the orange with dirty brown patches and it won,t scrub off :o :o i think i may have used too much well i thought i couldn,t use too much moisturiser at my age( i too have a major birthday coming up too fast the one that gets me 10% off at B/Q on wednesday) got to get your priorities right. i did some digging today and put some cabbages in well i thought the slugs might be hungry after all the pea,s were all finished and they needed afters

It's a box of fuschia plants from Gardening Direct. But I didn't order it, and there's no indication on the box of who sent it to me.

One more year to go afore I qualify for 1o% day, but two old dears passed me in a queue buying a bargain rose and chirruped "Oooh how lovely and you'll get oap discount". Well I knew I didn't look my best, but hey...Anyoldhow, been squelching around Cornwall all week, and passing myself off as a'senior' with the rest of the gang. Eden was brill, Heligan was absolutely the best and everything else was great- especially the grub at the Springer Spaniel which was near our accomodation.
Nice to be home though. ;)

Just have to share a (mushy) story with you all.
Went up to the allotment with Alfie today at 11:30 and as soon as we got there he said "I want to go and see Ahmed"
So off he trotted into Ahmed's allotment and he stayed there for 2 hours.
Me, being the nosey type, stuck my head through the hedge to see what they were up to.
Ahmed was cutting his privet and Alfie was making 'birds' nests' out of the clippings. He was sitting in the 'nests' telling Ahmed that he was in fact a blackbird and he'd just laid 4 eggs.
Half an hour later I poked my head through the hedge again. Alfie had made Ahmed his own privet nest and they were BOTH sat there on their respective nests discussing the finer points of hatching eggs.
Ahmed is 75, Alfie is 4. What a lovely scene that was. I shed a genuine tear :)

I finally got the date for my op..going in 20th june, op on 21st..in for about a week so, now you know where I will be :)
poor ray, his birthday's 20th june..still, we're celebrating it on 16th 'cos that's when the family can make it..he's the big 6 0 :)
most of the planting's done at the plot, just chinese leaves and some red cabbages..ray'll just have to keep up with the weeds, I'll be out of action for a few weeks and NO HEAVY LIFTINg for the rest of my life...yeah ;D
there's a new baby on the way, I'm going to want my share of cuddles :)

I had surgery last year on June 5th and was away 6 days,I too was asked to leave a list for John which I did and I precooked and froze meals as he doesn't cook at all. I worried about everything possible not being at the helm, but it was a waste of brain cells, he managed really well, visited me,looked after the dogs etc and still found time to houseclean. He didn't eat the meals though.I never did find out what he ate actually.

well, I got the last of the squash in today, and the toms 'n' stuff in the poly..pulled some spuds and planted leeks, sowed swede, only got the rest of the corn in the poly and the barlotto beans outside,
just been given my pre-op date, june 1st so, next weekend is favourite to finish off. :)
we're all off to a family bbq tomorrow, if it's raining, mike (son in law) is outside, under the new gazebo cooking and we're all inside in the warm ;D

i never thought i would catch up action and was getting very down about it then suddenly i,m there. my lot are differing where they are taking me for my 60th well it willbe on the sunday before longlete or stourhead it seems. i,m not supposed to know it,s a family getogether but i,m glad that my daughter leaked it cuz i was worrying that if i went out with one the other would be put out. my youngest the "wild child" is in USA waiting for his greencard he e-mailed me he,d got married

That's a very classy pair, they are colour coordinated beautifully, even on their eyes , and the the trim she has matches the curtains, they look really good.

Hi everyone, I am relighting the flame under this post as it seems the perfect place to come back to.
Due to flooding, overseas visitors and temporary classrooms I have been unable to get here for some weeks.
Thank you for all your PMS which I am just starting to answer.
To answer a few questions.
I have not been ill and am just fine, so is John.
I have definitely not fallen out with A4A.
We have not been away.
Since the floods and our school being completely ruined we started in temp accommodation split over 2 facilities in September, the kids are bussed there and back and as I have special insurance to carry kids, I transport all the lates, Dr's appointments and the sickies or bumped kids between three locations, plus doing any home visits I do as part of my job, many of which are having to be done in the evening.
John and I have been eating on the run, I think we have probably earned shares in the local take aways which we usually hate. Then of course we have been renovating and decorating which started before the floods, so life here has been manic.
Thankfully it has slowed down a bit, the overseas visitors have gone home and the decorating is at a point we can ease off, so we have a wee bit more time until the school move starts again when we get our own facility back in January.
So folks , what have I missed, is there anything exciting or even sad I need to know about, I have been trying to wade through weeks of postings.
How is everyone.

All you super folk who have had good harvests, it would be wonderful to hear about it.

I have made a resolution this year to not buy seeds, but have already begun to break it by starting to get ready to order my sweet corn from Canada, oh dear I am such a wimp.

Well I dont want to bring the tone down, but I am really low today. Feeling lonely, miss hubbly such a lot for some reason today. Its cold and grey outside.......not even one little bird in the garden this morning.
On the plus side....there always is one...Im looking into getting a lottie, that is something I have always wanted to do, just never got round to it. I reckon I can blame this forum for that ;D Thanks one and all!!
Im trying to keep my spirits up, though its really difficult on a down day. I think I need a big cyber hug.

I am looking out at sunny skies but its quite windy (as usual). We haven't had rain for 10 days now and no wind either. I am off looking for a couple of tables for my room. Unfortunately, the wood in my room is dark and off course the fashion just now is for light wood so having a struggle to see a couple of tables.

Oh Goodie, chit chat again, nice to hear from you all, and Star, I hope tomorrow is sunny for you.
I have had a productive day, remaking a down filled duvet from super king size to single size, it is all done but I fear we will be eating the down for a week or two despite several vacuumings, but I had no need for the big one and needed a small one and now I have a lovely down cushion as an extra. Tomorrow I will tackle the linens that fit it.
I am starting to think abbout seeds though..that is scary.
Good thing this week though, I just managed to win a battle with British Gas re a bill, for electricity, it seems I have been using 13 times the national average for power for a four bedroom house with a family since since Easter, and we are 2 in a 3 bedroomed house and no greenhouse heat since February, so I battled for a new meter and won,, having had all the bills adjusted it turned out that the £538 they said I owed,which was on top of the direct debit I had been paying monthly turned out to be wrong, the original direct debit estimate turned out to be accurate after allwhich they discovered after the faulty meter was changed, so if anyone out there is having ther same problem..challenge it !!!

My dear mum was with British Gas dual fuel, she was very unhappy with them. Remember the con a while back BG verbal agreements over the phone to join up with their contract, 2 years as I remember. She is 81 and didnt realise she had agreed to a contract, then it was too late.
Anyway she did get out of it with BG owing her money, till Thurs, her new supplier NPower rang her saying they were sorry she was leaving. And that her new supplier was BG again......poor love was beside herself as she had no phone call or contact with BG since they paid her £75 overpayment. That was months ago.

Similar thing happened to us, but with Southern Electric. We had an electric bill for the summer quarter that was so big, I wondered if we were also paying for the street lighting.............after much haggling and men knocking on the door to disconnect us :o :o they didn't, we finally managed to get someone to listen to us - it turned out that the meter reader had read the wrong dial.......................

I recently have had to give them a little bit of sympathy, one of the girls at work kept getting really high electric bills. Her property is all electric but she is in a 1 bed flat with husband and they are both out at work all day.
She queried the bill, had an adjustment as her tariff was wrong and still the bills were really high, at work we went through everything it could be, did she have high draining appliances left on at all etc. etc.
The electric board came out to check the meter several times, they even changed the meter for her in case it was giving faulty readings.
Turns out she has economy 7 (or something similar) and the unit was being left on all the time which was the reason for the really high bills as she was using it at peak times as well as cheap...oopsy.

I get really confused with gas & electricity things ::) Just switched from British Gas to Powergen because the lad on the phone was really nice to me!
I asked if they had to come out and change pipes etc. ::)

Rained heavily this morning but turned nice this afternoon and planted out a couple of hundred winter onions that I had started in cells. Then did a bit of harvesting... pics on the main edibles ;D

Yesterday, on our way back from Shopping we came upon a horrific accident. Two cars on fire and in the hedge. There was 4 cars in front of us and we stopped. It looked like there was no panic and folk just standing around. No Police or ambulance so we assumed things were under control apart from the cars on fire. Today, I found out 2 young lads were inside one of the cars and had died and in the other car were 3 local folk who I knowand were later taken to the Hospital. I am now full of remorse at assuming everything was OK. I know that no one could have done anything for the young lads but it was just horrible seeing it all and now knowing life was lost.

Carol that's an awful experience for you. It's hard not to think about it isn't it. It did make me think about the lads who overtook the car behind me on a bend at speed yesterday and then did the same to me, missing an oncoming vehicle by a whisker on both occaisions.I don't expect them to be on the road for long. (Please don't think I'm assuming that the lads in the accident you saw were at fault.)

I believe we are in different places at different times for a reason.......and you were not meant to be there (stopped at the scene I mean)
I was with my dad for 10 days, came home and he died that night......you always think ...what if.....I should have stayed longer. But I wasnt meant to be there either.......

I hope you feel a little better tomorrow hun, it was sunny here all day which really helps. And after not seeing one bird the other day.......2 fat pigeons eating ALL the food off the bird table tipped it over and fell off, you had to be there. It was comical. :D

yea always bounce back me!! ;D got the bubblewrap down from the roofspace and insulated the greenhouse ! another job out of the way . just nipped in the shower and am wasting time cuz at 3.24 i,v got to have a boobscan def want that job out of the way it,s only a routine onebut you never know, got called back on the first one it turned out it showed the remains of a small lump that came and went years ago very worrying at the time

Im having a greenhouse delivered tomorrow....I cant wait. Its been years since I was lucky enough to have one.
We were busy (I say we, I mean hubbly) doing the brake pipes on the landy today ready for the mot on friday. Everything else seems to be in good working order now. We've always said if you have a landrover you dont have a car you have a pet.......they're always needing some attention ::)
I have also applied to the council for an allotment pack.....gosh Im an allotment virgin. But i cant grow enough at home.

Star do you mean a allotment plot or patch? be prepared to get obsessed !! it,s not just the extra ground it,s the company. been to mine today, it took 2hours to do 15 mins work :-[ it,s also very satisfying to get things done when you are on your own. the scan is only a routine one every 3 years for over 50,s I know lots of woman who would rather not know if anything was wrong which i think is a bit daft cuz its got to be better to catch it early

Its not huge but there is another one almost vacant, so we may apply for that one too. Its got a shed, its right next to the water supply and has an established, if a bit overgrown herb garden. Lots of hops, and some hazel at the bottom.
Also it has lots of ransoms in seed, so if anyone wants some just shout ;)

Going back to "Ransomes" Ramsbottom in Lancashire is the valley (bottom) where wild garlic grows! Far more picturesque than the town today... and I've been to Stubbins wood nearby which is still full of the stuff!

Star, re electricity and gas, get your Mum to check out Staywarm, it is just for the over 60's,there is a fixed charge dependant on the size of the house and that is it, there is no adjustment at the end on the year, once going they cannot change the monthly amount unless a review (at the end of the contract)is done no matter how much you use.
Carol, I was sorry to read about your awful encounter with the traffic accident, it kind of brings us all to a halt emotionally I think.
Work is still manic for me, but I am getting a few evenings to myself now which is an improvement.
I have even managed to pick up a bit of cross stitch, I am very fond of the Amish designs and am gradually working my way through the Told In a Garden series.All have quilts in which of course I love and lots of gardening, so I feel right at home.
We almost lost one of out dogs a couple of weeks ago, but she pulled back from the brink and is fine now, I am still getting the £500 plus vets bill however.

Thank goodness the fireworks have finished, I am tempting providence here but is there anyone else oput there who dislikes them as much as me !! Two kids from the same family burned this year at our school.

My annoyance today....the bloke who came yesterday to ask if we wanted to get rid of 2 heavy duty (dead) batteries and two wheels (no tyres) from our landy. I told him 'No', that we were keeping them.
This morning the batteries had been nicked, they have been there for weeks and no prizes for guessing who took 'em. Thieving git!!
I know they shouldn't have been out in the front garden, but they were hidden from view as we dont want to see a junk yard. So he must have been prowling.
I can remember a time when I could leave my front door unlocked, and car too.

Yesterday we decided to go and recycle all the glass and rags. We filled the boot and got into the car. 100yds downt he road the warning light for the Boot was on, we were driving with the boot lid up, forgot to close it. ;D ;D

Drove my son the 2 miles to his girlfriends tonight, could not believe how courteous people were on the road flashing me at junkshons to let me out, even had a group of smokers outside a pub wave at me, it was only on the return journey that i realized i had not put my lights on. :P ::) :-[ ,did not tell the wife as it was her car i was driving at the time. ;D

yesterday, the lads brought all the bits for the tunnel up, got the posts in the ground ready for the great polytunnel raising today..I transplanted 250 surfinias for the plant sale, just another 150 to go, our lollo rosso were up so got them in pots, and red mustard..we welcomed another couple onto the site..told them all about you and hope they've joined ;D

Wow, Manics, how do you do it , I am still quilting in my jammies, clean ones of course, I have peeled 25 pounds of tangerines and taken them to juice to make orange jelly,made some lovely soup from the scratchings from the lottie, and am in the middle of doing a lamb dinner with a Christmas pudding and brandy sauce.
Back to work on Monday, back in our newly built school so that is going to be a thrill.
Waiting to go back for next set of spine injections next week.
John is going back to the memory clinic for the third part of his tests, it looks as if we will be getting a firm diagnosis of what has been presumed but not confirmed before. I am not sure how I feel about this, but from what I have been told already it looks very likely. He is going for brain scan to see if there is anything there too. Still they might find something if the brain scan to explain what is happening.
I think when he refused to go and we all presumed it was a sort of never never land and I felt quite strong about, but now the likely possibility of firm confirmation is shaking me up a bit.
Well we will cope I am sure.
Going to clean out my little at home greenhouse tomorrow and start sowing.

Due to popular demand....well, just Jeannine really, I have decided to tell you about my little secret. ::)
It wasnt really my secret, but Phil's (OH).
Phil wanted to make it up to me because we had such an awful honeymoon in porthcawl. The caravan was damp and dirty, it was cold and wet and all the shops and funfair had shut down the day before we arrived, for the winter. >:( Needless to say, I havent let him forget it in 26 years ::)
He had secrtely worked out that we had been married for 10,000 days(of which I have since been reliably informed that he was a year out, but that's another story)
Phil had booked the executive suite in the Fairways Hotel in Porthcawl, for one night, as an appology. It was dead posh....huge sky tv, 4 windows with sea views, a huge bathroom and a huge jaccuzzi bath.
Unfortunately, the control on the jaccuzzi was stuck , so it was either full on or off. The water was shooting about 10 inches into the air. Phil sat on the bed laughing at me being engulfed by the deluge, but I was determined to have my moneys worth!! It was reminiscent of one of those films where the person falls into the pirrhana infested waters :o The bathroom got a bit (well, a lot) wet, but it was great!
There was a lovely breakfast included. We ate in the restaurant in the evening too (is there no end to this mans generosity ;D). The food was lovely. A chestnut and mushroom wellington.
It all seemed quite exclusive, as we had the only executive suite, room 1. When you got to the rooms, our room was one way, and every other one was the other way. There was a senseo coffee maker, 2 sinks in the bathroom , a huge shower and a bidet.
In the morning, before we left, I decided to try the bidet, as I had never used one. After studying it intently, it seemed more hygienic than I had imagined, if the plug was left open, as only fresh water came into contact with the intended bits.
I assumed the position, and turned on the water. I wasnt impressed with it and decided to stand up. I didnt realise that the jet of water was strong enough to overshoot the pan. I ended up with warm water shooting all down my legs, over my underwear and trousers. We were just about to leave, but I had to undress and dry off all my clothes with the hairdrier. We were both killing ourselves laughing. The cleaners in the corridor must have been wondering what we were up to , what with the squirty water noises, hysterical laughter and some sort of electronic device :o
It was so nice , I didnt want to come home. They wouldnt let me stay for free though, so I had to leave
He wanted to make it up to me.........it worked ;D

Well, what a week :o Phil and I got that norovirus from a 70th birthday party. Last count was 13 out of the 15 guests!! Its times like that you appreciate having 2 loos!! Then 48 hours in quarantine watching sky TV......aaaargh, my brain is rotting ;D
Now I have a bad cold, and nasty cough.
2 old friends died. Both were unwell, but it was still upsetting. :'(
Got up this morning to find that the newly installed boiler in our new church extension had been stolen >:( So its going to be a busy afternoon trying to get hold of everyone to tell them the church is shut till at least wednesday.
Ah, I hear the distant sound of a lone violin player............
Other than that, life is wonderful ;D ;D ;D
Off to another birthday party this evening. I'm not sure I really fancy eating anything there :-X Surely lightening never strikes twice in the same place......... ;D

wed went to some stables and shoveled 12 bags of manure thurs food shopping and here we are end of week I,m glad the antibiotics worked
ooo and I lost 4 more lb making it 1st4lb since xmas and 4" off b*m which can,t be bad I do think things go well for john and ray I think it,s something we all fear as we get older

I am hopeful that I have just found a joiner to get in and finish the building that John is unable to do now. I pinched him from the school and brought him home. Floods have their advantages I guess as we have all sorts of workmen still on site.
I hope to capture a plumber/electrician next week and a decorator the week after if I can.
Oh then I can look at carpet patterns.
It has been a good week for me. Back in our own school, all the kids happy, parents too and my contract renewed for another 3 years.

Well, dont get too excited about it till I fill you in on the details.
I was in Wilkinsons yesterday, and found myself strangely drawn to the garden department (something I'm sure none of you have experienced ::)) I heard a small weep coming from one of the shelves :'(. There, amongst all the reduced (read 'dead') plants, was an olive tree.
To be honest, 'tree' isnt a fair description. 2 x 3 inch twigs joined at the hip would be better. There were plenty of leaves, but they were lying on the compost rather than atatched to the said twigs. Methinks someone forgot to water it :-\
Well, seeing the distress of this poor little olive tree :'( (and noticing the 20p sticker ;D) I decided to take him home with me.
He has had some emergency irrigation and is cuddled up in my electric propagator. I am not too hopeful of a successful outcome, but at 20p, well, it seemed worth the risk.
So that is my bit of the mediterranean. I will keep you posted on his health. If things go well, I'll be needing a name for him , if not, well he'll have a good resting place on the compost heap .

I just got a call this afternoon, a cancellation at the hospital for my final spine shots..this is the cauterisation ones rather than the two trial ones I had earlier.
If this works I could get up to 18 months pain relief so fingers are crossed.
I am told that lot is pretty painful so I hope I am not a baby!!!

Not going to start a thread of its own about this, because I know it has the potential to become heated, but I just watched an item on Countryfile on BBC1 about taste testing chickens reared in different ways.
To the surprise of the presenter the chicken that came top in terms of taste and texture was the intensively reared one. Followed by organic, then corn fed, with free range last.
Regardless of the ethical considerations (if it's possible to disregard ethical considerations, obviously :) ) I found it interesting that it discounts one of the arguments against intensive farming for chooks - that the meat is poorer quality.

I am veggie now, but before that, we decided to only buy free range meat. it was then that I discovered I didnt like chicken....it was too chickeny! It was also tougher, as the animals had been allowed to use their muscles, whereas intensively reared chickens end up in almost the same size constraints as veal.
, so making the meat tenderer.

Central Heating Boiler went dolally on Friday so been without heat n hot water. :'( :'( We are definately soft nowadays with having every room warm nowadays. I didn't get my shower this morning and missed that, but I am sat here with a leccy fan heater pointing at me. Why do things break on a Friday night? Sods law.

Yesterday I decided to strip the wallpaper in the hall ready for my next lot of decorating (getting too old for this lark :)) Decided to have gammon steak with pineapple for a meal, knew I wouldn't have the energy to do a "Sunday" dinner.
Call from next door (daughter) your dinner will be ready at 6pm, boy did I enjoy that meal.
Haven't started on the decorating yet as I have got to take the dog for grooming at 11.30am but back to the grind about 2pm. At least it is a job I enjoy just can't work at the pace I used to :'(

Hi, I am back from the hospital, procedure 1 hr 40 minutes which was longer than I expected but I am fine..I have ben warned there could be alot of pain when the local knock out stuff wears of though. They offered me sedation for the procedure but I declined as I didn't want to be asleep half the day.

.......right that's it! Whose got God's number then? I have googled it and searched everywhere on the internet - nothing. I want to make a complaint about the Angel in charge of the weather! She/he's got to be FIRED! It's lovely outside at the moment (I'm stuck in the office) - in fact we've had 2 dry days in a row now and tomorrow......yep - back to rain, snow, sleet, hail and generally freezing temperatures! When the heck am I meant to get my spuds out? Either that or move the weekends along a couple of days - say Wednesday and Thursday can be the weekends instead. :( :'(

Well I took a one-handed photo last night and the camera slipped (that'll be the half bottle of wine taken) and the photo turned out blurry. Now that's not a problem but my hand also looked long, slim, elegant and clean which it clearly ain't! Now I also haven't worked out yet how to get photos off my new shiny iphone so even if the photo were an accurat record I couldn't post it yet.
Besides I got wakened this morning at 5 as keyholder for one of my neighbours (except I'm not this time) because their burglar alarm went off. in the early morning blur I staggered to the bathroom and much huffing and puffing and steam later came out with pristine hands. Well as good as they get!
So it'll need to wait till I go and dig at the lottie I'm afraid.

Hi Manics! Little 'un is absolutely fine thanks - apart from a black eye and a gashed forehead. He came off his bike. Over the brow of a hillock at full speed whilst standing on the saddle ::) I swear he's going to join the circus.
Ahmed is just as delightful as ever ::) Today he has been telling me how enormous his 'Beefcake' tomatoes are and how his coriander bed has been taken over by 'Lord Mayor's Tail'!! Gotta love him :D

Now, let me tell you about Trixiebelle's soap .... bloomin LOVERLYYY!!!!! I'm using the gardener's soap that Trixiebelle sent me a month or so back and it is fantastic, it has lovely little scrubby bits in it to take away the ingrained dirt and the smell of geranium oil is fab. I would recommend it to anyone, go and contact her now to buy some .... well go on then! ;D

Well the school governers just voted me back for yet another year after retirement.
I have had my waist length hair cut down to Judi Dench!!
Got hit by a football this am on the school yard, almost got knocked out but not quite, fell to the ground in a semi faint, surrounded by Mums and kids. I just fine, and have earned quite a bit of street cred from the kids with my black eye.
Getting very excited as school is out in a few days.. whoopee.

Well I am going to be a Great Auntie. Excitement in our family. I have no children, only the 2 Nieces and this is the first baby in the family for 25 years. Really looking forward to the new arrival.

wow this is a great idea as i have often wondered who i could talk to yes its a mum thing well it goes like this my dear old mum rang the other day and asked what we would be doing for Christmas and i said that it was a bit to early to say yet as i hadn't even had my birthday yet (its in august)and mum told me i had and oi replied no i hadn't and she said you have because i bought your card ages ago and put your pressie in it and gave it your dad to bring over on the Saturday and that was ages ago i then asked her to get the paper and read the date which she did 14 July she said so i then asked when i was born and she said if i couldn't remember then she wasn't going to tell me and hung up ??? ???
at tea time that same day my dad rings up and said that yes i was right it was a bit early to be thinking about Christmas when i hadn't even had my birthday yet and yes mother did give me your card ages ago and its sitting in my sock draw waiting till nearer the date when i will bring it over for you i then asked why it was bought so early and he replied that he gets mother to buy all our birthday cards in one go and then she writes on them and he keeps them safe as a couple of years back ,who am i kidding , mother lost my 21st birthday card and i said well that's still a bit odd its only a card and could be replaced yes he said but not the 50 quid inside it did make me chuckle hope you enjoy this little bit of claptrap

:-[ oooeer I am getting more like your mum everyday! and this week I invited my daughter and G kids around for xmas day and then invited us around hers for new year ::)
to be honest there was a reason for this planning as she left her OH a few weeks ago (a control freak shes better away from him) so we can,t fall into the same routine as every year
by the way I am expecting my 5th grandchild in mid november,no not my Daughters my sons 2nd I fear Daisy aged 3 by then is going to have her nose put out of joint as she pretty well rules the household (but she,s very cute )

Evening all! Well this Mum is child free....................for the first time in I cannot remember how long I have NO kids in the house! :o One is overseas withthe family for the summer..........the other gone to Wales for a week with a mate..........and do you know what................I miss them! :'( :'( :'( (but don't tell them I told you! ;) ) Also OH working till 3am, I just got in from catering a funeral.............2nd this week. :( And have opened a bottle of Chardonnay, don't fancy anything to eat, so might take meself to bed and stick the telly on!
Oh but, at the funeral, was doing the washing up in the kitchen, and one of the chaps whose Dad it was that had died, (would reakon he was 40ish, son not dad) was talking to some older woman who was saying " So can I go in your dad's flat and help myself?" "erm" was the reply, "well he did say we could have the 2 (fancy name I can't remember) radios". "Well" said distraught son, "we haven't even thought about the flat, and I think brother and I would like the radios." If they had looked at me, my jaw would have been on the floor............there is a time and a place.........bloody goldiggers! I really felt for the Son.
Right off to top up me glass.............................boy is it quiet round here, I need a teenager to argue with me! ;D ;D

Which reminds me, my F-in-Law was living overseas when his Dad died, so back then took him, as the only living child. a while to get back. (few days probs) When he did, the house had been stripped by his cousins! :o Nice family!
On the plus side of having no kids home, and OH working again tonight....I read a WHOLE book in one day, no guilt, no meals to cook...lovely! ;D (but the house needs a good clean, but I managed to ignore it! ;D)

Doris, you very easily get used to it ;). No.2 daughter has not moved out permanently yet, but she spends half the week at the lover's house. She's an easy person to have around and she makes me laugh, but it's oh so nice to be on our own-even just for a couple of days.
Mind you, don't know who's going to sort out the techno stuff when she goes... ???

I'm on my own today as my daughter is camping with friends,son is at his girlfriends house,oh is off doing his own thing(don't ask) so i know where I'm off down my lotty and it will be amazing that when i get back the house will look how Ive left it TIDY but it really is quiet here but hay us mums deserve a break now and again

I'm a newy only had allottment 4 weeks still clearing, rain holding me up luckily am also a seamstress so keep busy on machines, at moment making king size quilt when rain stops play, :( ( have just found ( allotments 4 all) loving the emails just missed shed sale from homebase, still looking , by the way I'm an oldy ?

we went to see my mum and dad yesterday as dad had got me some chickens and mt daughter and her mate who happens to be male and gay came with us we walked in and i said this is daughters friend and mum was eyeing him up with that look is he going to look after her look and should i buy a hat look you know the sort of look I'm on about :-\ :-\ when they had gone into the other room i told mum that he was gay and she said (bless her) yes he does look a happy young man i just had to smile but told her when we were leaving not to get her hopes up as the young happy man likes boys oh my god i have never seen my mum speechless before it was so funny I'm still awaiting the phone call. I will fill you in when i get it.......

Lovely place to chat and air your feelings.
Gee I am fed up of looking at blooming boxes.
Although we are not going for some time we are packing and sorting.
Lots to sell. give away etc so packing what is being shipped in the easiest way to get organised.
We have done exactly 20 packing crates in the last few days and we are both bushed .. and that was just the craft supplies, books ,the seed collection and my baking tins and pans.
I have such a huge collection of baking tins but I can't part with them. This will be the third time by Crackenbouche cone has crossed the Atlantic, and do I really need a full 6 piece set of petal shaped, heart shaped, square, oval, round cake tins.. I never did get the horseshoes.
But I just love baking equipment, so what do I do.
Pans are just the same,all the copper and Le Creuset, weighs a ton but I can't part with it.
Thank goodness it doesn't go on weight.
I have to ask myself..do I really need a fish kettle anymore..no of course not..but it is there waiting in the heap to be packed.
Then there are the Cherished Teds.. dare not even admit how many, and the collector plates.John's Rupert Bear collection, or the Gollies that share the room with Rupert..just can't part.
I think I must be mad.
How do you change the habits of a lifetime?
Thought of selling some stuff on e bay but prices are so low I can't do it.It would break my heart.
We have been lucky with the lottie stuff though, the rotavators went straight away and the man taking our raised bed lottie paid us for the greenhouses etc. Mind you it is full of fruit bushes and stuff so he is very happy.
We are also eating our way through a packed freezer, rule is what the hand touches first is what we eat.. didn't work tonight though..a rather disguting haggis.
I am not shipping my canning/bottling jars though. I figure they will go.
Well I guess this is a diary of my packing progress.. all ideas very welcome.

It is metal cone , mine is abour 20 inches high, Using profiteroles filled with flavoured cream, stacked with the help of the cone and fastened together carefully with sugar syrup, the mould is carefully removed.
I then decorate mine with spun sugar cascading from the top, add a cascading ribbon and top with a decorative orchid or something like that. Sometimes I deotate in the joins too.
Very impressive, not difficult, delicious and not expensive.. but looks like it should be.
I will try to find you a picture.
If you like eclairs you will like this dessert.

I'm feeling a little full. Just finished my lunch at work which consisted of two primula & cuke sarnies, a bag of low fat crisps, a small bowl of grapes, a yoghurt and rounded off with a chocolate muffin and a carton of blackcurrant capri-sun. Oh, and my boss brought in some fresh shortbread cookies and I had two. I feel I may have slightly overdone it today .... blagh ;D ;D
As you can tell, I'm hard at work here.

Spent a lovely day today with Ahmed (my neighbour) who told me all about his childhood in Pakistan. Blooming fascinating! AND he donated one of his greenhouses to me to grow excess cumbers, toms and possibly melons in! And some spare land for the millions of cabbages I have.
Actually, it's not his greenhouse OR his land, it's his nephew's but he assures me it will be ABSOLUTELY FINE ;D

Just spent far too long reading this thread - not all of it will have to dip in - it's fab, I will totally have mad mother things to add. I really miss my Nan who died a few years ago, she was always saying funny things.
years ago we went to stay with some fairly well of rellys. they had a lovely house which my nan was very impressed with. In the morning she got up and went into their walk in shower. A few minutes later there was a scream of laughter from my nan and her sister my great aunt disGrace. My nan had got into the shower and thought 'Bloody hell they are so posh they have carpet in their shower ................then she looked down and realised she'd got in with her slilppers on ..............................

Unfortunately he's trapped a nerve in his back so he's round at my allotment ALL DAY lately! He was sat on a chair in the middle of my lawn today and said he couldn't get up - I had to strim round him :D
And there he stayed for most of the day in one of his 'I do everything 100% right and you do everything 100% wrong' moods ::)
When I showed him my full tray of Yin Yang beans that have come up beautifully he was MOST displeased - the ones I gave him to grow haven't come up ::) Allegedly I've 'knobbled' them to make him look like an amateur. We have this conversation every year at least 3 times a year. Last time it was Atlantic Giant pumpkins.
What a fab day it's been today! And going to get hotter tomorrow apparently. No doubt there'll be a blizzard at the weekend!

took the grandchildren to the plot yesterday, wore myself out trying to keep up with Matthew, a couple more months and I won't be able to catch him..Callum helped Ray water everywhere and move plants around, big push to get all the site clean and safe for the punters..went to the park with the kids after lunch and finally collapsed at 4pm.
this plant sale's just getting bigger, got to put me best wellies on tomorra, the press is coming ;D

Oh goodie, so come on folks tell us your tales.
I had a laugh last week, I met a fella in our elevator who couldn't speak a word of English. I got out at the ground floor and went into the laundry room..he followed me..chattering away.. he kept pointing to the washing machine, then what looked like his private parts, then he points at my underwear going into the machines at this point I was getting a bit concerned and was very pleased when he left... he came back with his laundry and a bag!!
My undies were thankfully swimming under the water by now so he couldn't get at them but he reached in his pile and starting to shake his at me!! Now I ask you what would you have done..he was buy the way very good looking in a dark fortyish way with gleaming white teeth and a smile to die for.
I tried to be polite.. but what did he want, surely he was not expecting me to do his washing. He showed me about 4 or five pars of his underwear.. nice cotton boxers by the way.. I was getting to know him quite well by now but he was getting a bit frustrated ,in the impatient sense by the way. I shook my head, shrugged my shoulders and kept repeating no. I felt if I was "done" on the floor midst all the machines I could truthfully say I had said no.
Suddenly he closed all the empty machine lids, oh eck I thought. Then he dug down in his laundry and pulled out all his shorts, laying about 8 pairs carefully on the top of the machines , he gestured me to take a closer look, I smiled and commented on the designs, this was not the right answer. He then started muttering under his breath and touching his forehead with a faint slap of his hand.
Then he opened the bag marked Walmart.and took out the same number of boxers, he carefully laid one pair over each of the others and again invited me to look.. the only thing I noticed was they were smaller and I commented this by a hand gesture. I hit the jackpot, he took my hands and shook them, then gestured a surprised " why" look and showed me the labels.. they were the same size..ah I think I have it. I took the new pair, held it up and gestured putting it in the machine, I then repeated the same by taking out the smaller pair.. Bingo.. it turned out my handsome gentleman had no designs on my geriatric bod he wanted to know why his shorts had shrunk, I showed him how to turn the water to a cooler temp, he again shook both my hands bowed and left. I promise there was no after glow!!
Yesterday while riding the elevator with John he again got on, he smiled, took my hands, kissed one and promptly pulled down his wairband pointed to his crotch and gave me a big enthusiastic thumbs up.. then got off at the next floor. John's face and stunned silence was unreal....
I shall tell him today...or not.

Talk about getting the wrong end of the stick. Which reminds me of a holiday we had in Gran Canaria.Tone and I were invited to a night club by these two lovely gay fellows. Hivered and hovered about it, anyway we went. Great music and great bodies.One of the chaps that took us came up and asked if I was ok. "I said yeah but that bloke in the striped jumper keeps coming up and asking me if I would like a drink" hesaid " yeah he would love. he's the bloody barman". Well !!!!!

I always wipe the clothes line....and wash my pegs regularly.....but then I have to hang out washing in a specific order, with matching socks together, exactly spaced.....control freak, moi?

I mentor a 14 year old at his school who is constantly in trouble.
Last month he dreamed up snitching a stack of detention notices; he wrote kids names on them, then distributed them to those students stating that he was the Dean's Assistant that day.
I thought that was highly creative!

something unusual happened to us last saturday when we decided to park the car outside of Bath and walk in along the river (app 2 to 3 miles) we had a little look around and bought some fish n chips to eat in a grassy square when from over the fence came a"can you help me please" from a elderly lady (one older then me!!) she wanted help reverse parking her car and OH ended up doing it for her
( i chickened out only done it twice since I passed 16 years ago) goodness knows how she got it out again as it was in there quite tight perhaps she asked someone else ! so much for our efforts to avoid parking in Bath ???

My late sister-in-law had an elderly friend who would only park at the end of a line of parked cars, never in to a space between cars!! In a busy place like Bromley they often had to walk quite a way to the shops. She also went the wrong way up a dual carriage way once and had to get someone to turn the car round. Grief no wonder there are accidents. I do wonder how many of us oldies would pass a test now, I would certainly have to study the theory test!!

well they have been and gone! they had a gap in the tour (punk band) between Budapest and Genevaso they stayed for 6days
D-I-L was lovely and it was good to see son after almost 3 years.not knowing what kind of food to get in I stocked up on booze,cola and crisps but they wanted to eat healthy
had to smile at myself cuz son is 27 left home at 17has married and lives in the states,travels around the world but I found myself worrying about him as he was late home one evening

they have band of their own called Christ v Warhol but the tour was with a friends band called Faith and the Muse in which they play guitar in the background

Well, I have begun to think I have moved into a geriatric twilight zone. I don't feel old but am surrounded by lots of old gals and a few guys too and I swear ( I think I mean hope) I don't look and act like them.
Some of you will remember when I had my lottie I had a nickname for all the plot holders whose name I didn't know, well it is happening here in this apartment block now.
There is very tall skinny women who cruises the corridors and elevators hour after hour carrying a pair of secateurs which she opens and closes constantly, I am berginning to think she is a ghost,she always wear a sort of a robe thingy. I said hello to hear the other day in the elevator, she spun round and gave me a big hello back then glared at my John..she then whispered rather loudly " I don't talk to men, they are all beasts" She then pointed her secateurs at him and snapped them shut a couple of times, near his nose. For a minute I thought she was having ideas about pruning his beard. Poor John, there is no place to hide in an elevator. Her floor came and she took off with a cheery wave to me and a scary glare at John. I have been calling him a beast all day!!
She is sort of a cross between Old Mother Riley and Joyce Grenville so John has called her Old Mother Grenville, personally I think it should be The long armed snipper!!
She is not the only odd ball.. I will tell you about Alice Blue Gown tomorrow.

Thought I'd join in here- I agree about the boobs- with a stomach like that they should be going the same way! Well, what have I done today? Free coffe at the library- got 2 good books, one on containers (now I have had to postpone my allotment dream) and another by Monty and his wife, something like "plot to pot"- it's in the car in the garage so can't look it up. Went to the garage where we bought our new car last week so that the helpful young man could tune in Radio 4 and put the clock right, then on to B&Q for ornamental cabbages for the front garden. I don't like them really that much, but we share our open plan garden with next door, and the shared bed looks better if we use the same plants- hers went in a fortnight ago- I'm a bit behind. I also bought some peat pots to put my sweet peas into when they've grown a bit. The rest of the day I've just been fiddling about on the computer and reading- it's a hard life being retired.

Thought I should do another post as the last one was done after page 1 (I'm fairly new!) and THEN I realised there were 29 pages of this entertaining stuff. Well, that was about 2 hours ago. I've read them all, and feel as if I've made some new friends. It's actually quite good to read en bloc as you almost get the full story (eg the pair of Goths- love the wedding photo, and it's so nice that you got to finally meet her). I think I may fit in quite well- my own latest mad moment happened a couple of weeks ago. I reported the car stolen from our drive , went through all the rigmorole of giving a lengthy statement to the police, then was awakened at 6.10 the following morning to discover that the car had been recovered from Sainsbury's car park where I had left it the previous day! I really couldn't believe it- I was so sure I had driven it home, but had to concede the point when informed by the two lovely young plocemen that they had just watched me on CCTV coming out of the shop and walking off down the road! I was very pleased not to be charged with wasting police time, but it took my OH some time to get over it.

I did go into town to attend an appointment at the hairdressers once.
I started to look in the shops and forgot all about my hair appointment.
Got on the bus and went home and it was a few days later before it clicked...........DOH ::)

Gwynnethmary that reminds me of what happened to me a few years ago.
The top half of our house is tile hung (I think there was a brick shortage when it was built ::) ) with grey tiles and for several years one of the upper tiles was broken, and looked untidy. When I had a roof repair done the chap in charge said he's replace the broken wall tile, so he replaced it with one from lower down and was hidden by a tree, but replaced it with a red tile as he only had that with him at the time, promising to pop by and replace it with a grey one later.
About six months later I saw this red tile - and went mad. Who had put it there? Why? Had anyone seen someone doing it? A neighbour helpfully suggested that burglars sometimes "mark" a potential house to break into. That did it, I phoned the police, who were nonplussed, they had heard of "marking" but nothing like this, and advised me to lock up carefully, and notify them of anything unusual immediately.
That night I got no sleep, and first thing in the morning I phoned my roofing chap to ask him how long it would take someone to swap a tile - and as soon as he heard me on the phone he said "I'm sorry - I completely forgot to swap your tile!"
Talk about being the laughing stock - everyone, including the police, dined out on this for weeks. The red tile is still there, I haven't the heart to change it, even though we have the replacement, and I still keep a cricket bat next to the front door.

That really made me chuckle Asbean- it's amazing how many of us have done some pretty daft things over the years- I put it down to being forced to multi-task when actually my brain doesn't do that!

I was releived to find a note on it from a sainsbugs delivery driver with a number but it seems their insurance office is closed for the weekend so I can't even get the repairs started till monday.
I had forgotten I put my sons wedding picture on here they are a crazy pair and very well suited
the tale about the "stolen car" reminded me of when I tied the dog to the school gates and remembered her 3 hours after I got me son home poor Carly she managed to die of age not by being owned by a shot away me

hope you get your car sorted- it's not fun when you have a mess to sort out that's not of your making. I love the dog story! I went to visit a young friend in hospital the other day, went to Sainsbury's (again!) to buy her some sweets on the way- got back into the car than spent AGEs hunting for the key (emptied handbag, looked under seats etc), got out twice to see if I'd dropped it in the car park. It was only on the second time that I discovered I'd been sitting on it all along!

Yes, I've often spent ages looking for things that are there all the time. I love the one about the dog - but for a school-gate story my mother took the biscuit. Her eyesight wasn't all that good and one day she met me at school as per usual, but when I came out of school I saw her marching off home - with another kid in tow! I had to run after them, and when I caught up with them the other kid was protesting (quite rightly!) and she was telling her to be quiet and get a move on! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
She was pretty absent=minded too ::) ::) ::) ::)

Those have really made me laugh and made me think of the time my mum parked her car in a Birmingham car park, took us shopping, came back, discovered the car had been stolen and called the police.
After standing with the policeman for a looong time (i was about 8) he got a call on his radio to say the car had been found in a nearby car park-the one she had actually parked in. ::)

I have to confess to someone!!
A few weeks ago after finding I have a huge Oriental supermarket on my doorstep I felt very naughty and completely ashamed when I purchased a live Alaskan King Crab, very expensive as John doesn't eat it, but I just had to try it fresh ( had it frozen a couple of times but it was rubbish) I have no problem cooking them by the way. Anyway this crab cost me the equivalent of about £18 which is what I was ashamed ok.. pure decadence. |It was by far the most super dooper fresh crab I have ever cooked, far out weighed all the other types I have done over the years. They are very big by the way and I had asked for the smallest one and in fact it was as I watched carefully as they chose it from the tank.
Two weeks ago I decided to do it again and once again I asked for the smallest one.. chatting to someone in the background I took the parcel they handed to me and put it in the basket.. did some more shopping, rather a lot so the checkout figure was not a big surprise.
Got home and got the big(huge pot) then I saw the price.. arrgh, immediate panic ,,where is John.. hide the bill, I had just paid $98 for a crab. It might have been their smallest but it was huge and then some.
I made such a disgusting pig out of self and try as I could I could not eat it all in one day so I was a pig two days running. It was truly wonderful but I feel so guilty about all the hunger in the world I have just got to confess.
Oh was it ever good though, I keep well away from the live tanks in their now... mind you I did sneak a peak at the fresh razor clams and the lobster today.
Come on gals fess up what was your most frivolous buy this year , edible or otherwise.
