I did not have the time to act on my hunch that a frost would occur on Tuesday night. My spuds [Rocket] look just the same as yours. I have since earthed them up. The sages at he allotment promise me they will grow on. They have just been set back a little.
I haven't said this before but I'm going to say it now..I like double digging!

Hi Pete,

I found mine the same this morning, I`m told they`ll recover.
I earthed them up last weekend and they were completely covered they must have grown a lot during the week as stems and leaves were like yours.

I`ve earthed them up and fleeced them. Apparently there are more frosts to come.

Col
... I am warmed by winter sun and by the light in your eyes.
I am refreshed by the rain and the dew
And by thoughts of you...

ok i have some of the leaves of some of my fleeced spuds like that (the brown and yellow bit rather than black) but my unfleeced ones and the others under fleece are fine. weird. but thanks, my question is answered.

Variety? I have Juliette & King Teds growing side by side -the King Teds have a little more foliage -the Juliette got frosted the Teds didn't. The Arran Pilot & Rocket in another bed were frosted too.

Jeremy.

Where's your plot Pete - your soil looks a lot like mine so I assume you are uphill on the heath rather than in the valley bottom.

It's not exactly a 'plot'. It's my back garden which is in North Hykeham. I'll consider having a lottie if we ever move anywhere with a small garden but at present I've more than enough room where I am.
