First carrots!
« on: May 20, 2005, 09:43:24 »
Checked a pot of Early Nantes sown back in Feb in warm greenhouse this morning. They are now ready, very pleased. Nice clean roots and no forking!

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Will be doing the same and more pots next year to get a nice early crop!

So that's what a carrot looks like. No luck in my allotment from first sowing, will be trying again using your compost drill technique.

They are 9" pots I think.

Sown in bog standard multipurpose compost and not fed with anything. Just kept moist. They started life in a bit of heat but have been in a plastic greenhouse for a month or so now I guess.

This year I have done 2 small pots and one large, I will be doing more next year if I can get an early crop like this again.

Oh how my mouth is watering just looking at them Jerry - I love baby raw carrots - well done....btw. did you have to thin them to get them like that or did you 'space' the seed out when you sowed it?

No thinning and just scattered the seed evenly over the compost. Very unscientific but it has worked!
