... The @(£*"(£$(_!"_"£_*** weather - sun all week, rain at the weekend - GRR!
...Not
quite
being able to get all of that naughty dock root/mares tail root/bindweed bits out of the trench you're already 3 foot down into.
...It getting dark
just
as you've started pruning your apple trees, so that you can't
quite
see what you're doing and saw the wrong branch off.

Yes secretly I quite enjoyed it. So maybe it is heaven after all... ;)
By the way does anybody else think you should be able to eat dock roots, they are so lovely and orange like fluorescent carrots!

Dunno about dock, but I read somewhere that couch grass roots are harvested and on sale in markets in southern Italy (?). Nutty and crunchy (now is that the roots or the peeps?).
All best - Gavin

Talking of free food Tenuse. Did you hear the guy a few weeks ago now. He was on Radio 2 and calls himself a 'free-gan' He never pays for food :o When no one is about he goes around the back of big supermarkets' like Tesco Safeway etc and raids the bins for food, still packaged and within a day or two passed their sell by date. All apparently still usuable,, but all un-sellable. Didnt fancy it my self but each to their own :P :P

Yes Mimi I have seen Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall on one of his "Cook on the Wild Side" programmes ar*e up in a Tescos skip nicking 100 loaves of out of date bread!
I don't go that far but my freezer is full of "yellow label" goods.
Last year I picked wild blackberries and quince to make jam, picked elderberries to make syrup, picked oyster mushrooms, puffballs, wood blewits and saffron milkcaps for dinner, wild garlic for flavouring...
This year I am going to try pissenlit salad with fat hen and nettle top soup.
I love free food!
