« on: April 11, 2005, 22:28:51 »
Hope this is in the right section  >:(

Jus popped into my local Safeway (Morrisons) and was surprised to find aall Moririson seeds, flowers and vegetable priced at 49p  - thought that was quite reasonable ! I shall have to go there more regularly  :)

I was pleasantly surprised to find B&Q selling tomato plants half price, £2.99 for 6 reduced to £1.495 (for the smart asses) only to find that half of them had died :o What a bargain ::)

Yeah, I saw those...thought about it, then thought better. Mind you I've seen stuff in there that looked as bad but wasn't reduced!

Lidl also do cheap seeds - 29p for small packets 49p for large (peas, beans etc). Be carefull what you buy though, I know some people who've had bad germination from them, but I've had no trouble...yet!

if any of you have a local W.I,ask when their market is held-usually in a local hurch hall-there are always lots of producers of veg and non-edible plants there-reasonably priced too...

I noticed Lidl's had seeds at those prices, and i'm not surprised that in some cases they don't germinate since in  some of their stores  they can be found littering the floor for all and sundry to stand on ;D

Look at my Lidl French marigolds - 29 p a packet.  I got two packets and only sowed a fraction of one of them and they must have ALL germinated.  I am gardening indoors at the mo as no warm greenhouse and they look very healthy.  So I'm dead chufffed with them.  It was my first ever visit to Lidl as I went looking for some of those coloured clogs (didn't get any)

Here is just one small pot of them - I have several more dotted about  :)

EJ - do they sell the seed for the yellow beans or the beans themselves ?  I thought they just did nothing out of the ordinary seeds.  Must have a lookie.  Also a few weeks ago Aldi had trays (like they use in the GC) of 40 little pots for 1.99.  Hmm'd about it and bought just one but should have bough a tenners worth.  They are so easy to  shift about coz they are quite rigid.  Oh well.  If anyone sees Aldi bargains again please post.  Their seeds were basic jobs but about 30p I think.  Got raddish and leeks coz my sis was raining me back

I have a bee in my bonnet about the way B&Q look after their plants.  Well not all B&Q's, just my local one.  You see they never ever look after the bedding plants, all they need is watering and they just dont seem to bother, so year after year you see masses and masses of plants all withered up and dying or dead.

Yesterday i was in there and they were selling off the dying/dead trays for 20p.
There were trays and trays of them, probably about two hundred or so :(

It infuriates me to see this happen year after year and consequently i refuse to buy my plants from them.

OK, i am off my soapbox now  :-[

:) I am with you honeybee, their toms last year were pale yellow and so leggy. Also all the plants are so forced that they run out of steam about 1/2 way through summer. Remember all flowers now none later!!

Aren't you glad we grow our own and at a fraction of the cost.
Supernan!!

One thing that does annoy me is the companies that stick paper/plastic flowers on cacti - sometimes, the real flower is trying to get through the glue (I also don't like the ones with silly eyes on, either).
