Topic: Chard and spinach

Not the best pic of the chard, but I had to dig 4 plants up to make room for my carrots.  Some of these will go very nicely with my lamb chop!  ;D

The spinach is in the bowl having a good wash as there were quite a few sluggies on it!  This was all dug up as I needed the space for spuds! ;D

Both of these veggies have done us proud over the winter, and the young 'uns that were planted in late summer are just coming into their own for this year.

EJ you're chard looks lovely, I hope mine does as well as yours. I planted out some seedlings at the weekend.

It's so beautiful! I can't wait to see my chard. I have about five seedlings. (is that enough?)

Is it one of those things you do succession sowings of? Or will one sowing give enough for the year?

As there are only the two of you Aqui, I would think one sowing would do you.  They grow like mad and to be honest, we have far to much growing for our needs.

Did you see Rick Stein on telly tonight reviewing green leafy stuff?  He says his fave is mustard greens and you can't buy it in the shops apparently.  I've seen it in the seed catalogue.  Has anyone had a go with it?  Your spinach looks fab!  I look forward to be able to grow stuff so I've got something to eat all the year round  :)

Looks great in your 'herbaceous border' - if you're unlucky enough to have one!!

I grew the chard "bright lights" (or similar name) in my herbaceous border. Looked very pretty and edible too, but the taste wasn't that great.  Mind you I did leave em in a bit too long but then I was growing them for decoration rather than flavour  :)
