I have a cherry on order (arriving late autumn) variety"Stella" on a dwarfing Gisela5 rootstock. Self fertile too.
I tend to favour varieties that are well known and have a proven track record, especially when recognised by the RHS as having great merit. I suppose I am risk averse. I have been caught in the past by claims of amazing breakthroughs, and astonishing new plants that have disappointed and now avoid novelties until others have tried them and reported their experiences.
I would not say do not buy, but I would think very hard and read up on the subject, varieties, rootstocks etc, before deciding. Hope it goes well.
