Topic: Where do you plant your brassicas?

This year I planted my brassicas next to a neglected plot and they where massacred by slugs. Next year I plan to plant next to plants which slugs don't seem keen on such as sweetcorn, leeks and onions. What does anyo think?

We seem to have had more of a pigeon problem than slugs this year, so netted thoroughly only for butterflies to get in somehow and lay their eggs which have eaten some of the crop.

I grow brassicas on well manured/ mushroom composted soil and use plastic bottles cut into rings to protect the stems at planting, all except swedes.  I keep these on until harvest and remove the bottom leaves to keep the leaves off the soil. Also grow under debris netting, I invested in some 3m wide stuff off of Amazon this year and have had no caterpillar damage at all this year.

I put a ring of BFB around mine when I plant them out I have an idea they do not like climbing over it.  Also the plants take off quickly.  Also plenty of manure, and a mulch of grass clippings if I have them. 

I have also got debris netting, but butterflies managed to get in but not too bad I think they will recover.  The debris netting also keeps the wind off.  Some of my sprouts are 5 ft tall.

I have had success in the past with planting them within a ring of phacelia

I have trouble with tea leaves so have given up on winter cabbages.   Sometimes I only manage two out of a batch of twelve, so it is not worth it.
