Growing strawberries in an old compost bin
« on: August 09, 2015, 20:20:02 »
I have the type of compost bin which is made up curved plastic pieces that slide together. Each piece has several holes in it. Would it be possible to use this as a very big strawberry pot or even grow potatoes this way ?

Strawberries will suffer if they don't get enough moisture, but I have seen pictures of strawberries being grown like that, if the holes were big enough and you could ensure water gets to the plants on the outside, I don't see why not. Don't think I'd try potatoes as they need complete darkness, but you could always line the container with cardboard?
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Thank you. Watering shouldn't be a problem as they will be near two water butts.
