That is how many different varieties of tomato I currently have germinated and growing!  Just potted masses on and names range from Red Pear, Banana Cream, Green Zebra, Roma and Guernsey Island Tom.

How many plants in total?

I've only got six varieties this year. Have sown four seeds of each for five varieties and 20 seeds of Roma, as that's the one we eat most.  That's only 40 plants. I think I might need to sow more (got to give some to mum and MIL too!) hmm...
gone to pot :D

I feel slightly inadequate  :-\  ;D
Only sowed 4 varieties of tom, 4 roma, 4 red alert, 2 golden sunrise and 3 craigella. Probably a bit early as most will be going on the lottie. Will try some more roma in a few weeks, and perhaps the craigella as I have loads of them. Still have gardeners delight to sow as well  ;D
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

I was also wondering where 40 plants would grow. I thought I had a fair few with 18 tomato plants. And then there's still the peppers, chillis and aubegines to find space for.

Tim - before planting out - on the windowsills in the kitchen and livingroom and the ironing board by the livingroom window and the kitchen worksurfaces.

Then hardened off in drips and drabs, because I didn't have enough room in the mini greenhouse. Then 10 were planted in the ground and the other 20-odd in upturned growbags. About 10 were given to mum and her neighbours.

This year - I have room for about 16 in a bed and the rest in bags. All outside.
gone to pot :D

Mine were all germinated in an old paddling pool on the floor in the conservatory.  Mum and sister will take about 10, then I plan to do one of each variety on the allotment, I manage about 10 or so in the greenhouse, father-in-law will probably take 6, Uncle has given up his greenhouse so he will take a couple, then I can always offer spares to the allotmenteers I run into on the plot.  Determined to save seed from them this year...famous last words!

I haven't got round to planting any tomato seeds yet...I was just going to but them as small plants and plant them out a I do each year, but now, after reading this I have changed my mind, feel inspired....is it too late to plant the seeds?

Where on earth do you find the room for all those toms?
I can only manage 3 varieties!

No Diver it isn't.  I think you've got quite a bit of time left yet.  Have a look on the packet and it will tell you exactly when and where to sow  :)
