Chickens not laying
« on: July 12, 2014, 21:40:55 »
Hi Everyone

Time to ask you friendly people some advice .

I am still a relative novice when it comes to keeping chickens and at the moment my 7 birds are only laying beteen 1 and 4 eggs per day . i have not changed their pellet and corn mix and they have plenty of greens etc , the only thing that is different is that they all seem to be losing their feathers on the neck and breast this i am told is ok because being a year old it is their first molt .

What i want to know is how long does this normally take and is there anything i can do to kickstart them egg laying , they have plenty of oyster shell in the run and i give them a cider vinigar mix twice a week .

Thanks everyone

As long as they are getting good food and water and are not overcrowded they cannot be kickstarted!!
Making an egg day in and day out needs a lot of the birds resources and the same goes for feathers.  If they are moulting they will rest  from laying, even the most productive hybrid has to have a little break and they deserve it for laying all those wonderful eggs :toothy10:
