I haven't watched a bit of Chelsea and he is partially the reason,I cringe as soon as he starts to speak!

Glad I'm not the only one! Monty Don irritates me too - another reason to avoid the show.

I always find it incredible when someone gets a major job in broadcasting when it's very hard to understand them due to poor diction and in some extreme cases, speech-impediments.  Joe Swift's voice is one of the most annoying things on telly.

"proper"...?! Hmm....there is some difference of the opinion going around about that and we've had some discussions about his 'capabilities' before. One allotment particular springs to my mind.....
Personally I don't like him...he is one of the most irritating 'gardening personalities' around..and his favourite word is 'design' that doesn't fail use in regular basis.

That is; as I understand it, because his qualifications are in garden design not horticulture.

I do not like the way he and Don cut across people they are interviewing .

I was not aware Joe Swift was a proper gardener.  I always saw him as all talk and no action.   There is a whole thread on here somewhere about his exploits on an allotment.

At least Monty Don gets stuck in with the digging.

Not a fan of either of them.   As a licence fee payer I think I deserve better.

I used to like the gardening piece on Pebble Mill at One.  I think the guy was called Howard and he seemed to disappear totally.

Proper gardener my "arse"  ask Borlotti about how much gardening he did on her allotment and I saw the mess he left behind.    :BangHead:

What else can you expect from a "Garden Designer"?

I remember seeing a replica of his allotment at 'Gardeners World Live' and my first thought was how can you get a spade into those Vee shaped corners and that's apart from his ability to grow  what was in the plot.

I recall how he used his name to scrounge all the edging boards from a local timber merchant and I guess he quite possibly used his name to get other gear.

BTW I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has no time for him.

Well put CK

Saw the Chelsea flower show and they also had Tony Buckland as well, hate him too, I always feel he is talking down to me.

I liked the look of that young designer who got a gold and another who won the peoples award, they look interesting.

We were doing an interview with him years ago. I can't remember what he said, but one of the girls replied 'well that's easy for you to say' only to see the film crew trying not to laugh, then I realised his impediment and cracked up myself. He was not amused.

How he grows his plants and look after his garden is interesting indeed...I wonder why is it that he is not in telly more often?
Probably upset somebody somewhere or his 'style' doesn't  'fit the bill'..

My only concern with Bob is him still using old tyres in the garden. No thanks !
He's on GQT which I record and listen to my little potting shed :happy7:
