Do you keep eggs in the fridge
« on: February 01, 2014, 16:29:26 »
I have always kept eggs  in the fridge but some people say eggs are not to be kept in the fridge.  If this was the case then why would fridges come with little plastic egg trays.  Ours will continue to be stored in the fridge but I am curious as to what others do.

No I don't keep mine in a fridge...there has been proper research done to this with results saying it doesn't make any much difference either way. I don't keep mine is fridge just from 'taking the space' reasons' and if you need some for baking...'warm' eggs whisk easier, so there is no waiting to fridge eggs to come up with temperature.
If you haven't noticed.....eggs are never sold from fridge neither.

Hi Kt,

We take the eggs straight from the coop to the fridge, never noticed any drop in flavour nor have any of our neighbours.

True, not seen any supermarket eggs in fridges but they don't taste the same as fresh eggs.

And that is probably due to the diet that commercial birds receive rather than freshess...they never have as variety rich diet as home grown birds have.
I have always made big effort to gather lot of 'wild' greens (weeds) for my girls and the yolks not only look richer but the taste so much better too.

Mine live in a "hen" on the work-top. I agree with Digmore about the taste having a lot to do with the taste - have you ever had the cheap & nasty ones & discovered that they taste fishy, that is because they are fed on fishmeal. I buy local ones which are the next best thing to having my own
